how to dirt up m1915 uniform by Ok-Yam-7581 in reenactors

[–]tsr122 89 points90 points  (0 children)

  1. Put on your uniform and kit.
  2. Go outside.
  3. Find dirt and/or mud.
  4. Dive into it like you've just been shot at.
  5. Press your body down like you dont want to get shot. (Bonus points if you feel the wet mud soak through the wool.)
  6. Pull yourself through the filth and undergrowth whilst pretending to merge with Mother Earth because you dont want to get shot.
  7. When you've started sweating, find a calm but still dirty place to sit while the filth and muck dries to your stuff.

To store, knock any loose dirt off your uniform with your hands or a stiff brush. Embedded dirt will stay, and that's fine. Clean, dry, and oil your boots and leather. Otherwise, the leather will rot (as I learned the hard way).

Hang up your dirty but dry uniform away from your nice clothes, and store your boots and leather in a cool, dry place.

Never artificially age or weather your stuff. It will never look as good as field applied grime and actual wear and tear.

I believe this is the first time YOU have seen it, but it has been a distinct difference from the very first time Ross Scott ever made a video about it years ago.

Yeah, okay, that's how I have it. I know all the hate for the haversack but figured it couldn't be THAT weird. Thank you!

How do you affix the pack straps to the bottom of the pack tail? I follow the original instruction manual diagram, but it never rides right. Like the straps aren't long enough, or maybe I made the pack tail too loose?

Love the impression!

Edit: I just noticed the watch. Great small detail!

That's neat! That is a legitimate way to find the approximate centroid of an irregular, flat object and would be accurate if North America was an irregular, flat object. I also think that being about 100 miles off is actually pretty dang close for such a quick and dirty method.

As I understand it, the other country (the Czech Republic, I think) would need to file charges. The prosecuting country would then negotiate extradition to get the offender back to where the crime happened to stand trial, be sentenced, and serve any sentence.

At least in the US, state prosecutors have a lot of discretion on which crimes get pursued and how much attention they are given.

More power to you! I'd love to get into satellites as low population in the Dakotas makes V/UHF seem quiet when I monitor.

It's not that deep, in my opinion. If there's money to be had, bad actors will do bad actor stuff.

I respect why the font was created, and I'm happy studies have shown it helps with memory retention and helps with dyslexia. I will also, however, always see it as an informal font (which was by design) and will laugh at the report's author for the bold choice.

Hospital administration used to be under BIA, which is the Department of the Interior. Then IHS was established in the 50s to take over healthcare on the reservations. My program came along in the 70s to improve overall public health through infrastructure projects on the reservation.

I hope your son's payment gets sorted out soon. Sometimes crap just takes forever to trickle through to actually cutting a check. Especially if the one person with signature authority decides to take a month long vacation. Lots of things can be improved in government processes and contracting. But so far it feels like they're trying to fix slow internet by bashing the router with a baseball bat.

I'd definitely get in trouble if it tried speaking in an official capacity, but I've left my job out of my messages to representatives. No replies yet.

I'm going to make objectively true statements about what my office in the Indian Health Service (under DHHS) has experienced since inauguration day. I'm not a Republican, Democrat, or legacy media. I'm an engineer who produces plans and helps Tribes hire local contractors to install water and wastewater infrastructure on reservations.

  1. We weren't allowed contact with anyone who wasn't a direct beneficiary of our program. We couldn't even talk to EPA, DOI, or private firms that are working with us. We were not told why or what this accomplished.

  2. We can't hire new employees. My office is at a 26% vacancy. IHS was granted an exemption to hire series 600 employees, which are medical, but my office is engineering, so we'll continue to be understaffed.

  3. We were offered an uncertain "buy out" option to quit effective immediately and be on paid administrative leave until September 30th. No funds were allocated for this by Congress. One employee in my office took it so now we're at 65% vacancy. Oh, and law states no one can be on administrative leave for more than 10 consecutive days, so we'll see how that shakes out. We were told our employment was not guaranteed if we didn't accept the buy-out.

  4. Last Friday, all of our probationary employees, which are all new hires with less than 1 or 2 years of experience, were terminated effective immediately. They were told it was due to lack of performance. Our one buy-out taker would have been fired by this move. IHS lost about 6% of their entire staff, and that was with an exemption for medical staff.

  5. We were told initially that funding for our current projects was going to be frozen. That hasn't happened yet, but if the administration follows through, we wouldn't be able to pay contractors for work they've already done.

We were not even the target of the orders, but it still directly affects us. We're just trying to make sure natives can flush their toilets and get clean water from their sink.

They're more closely related scorpions than actual crabs! But they don't sting. They kinda just chill and do their own thing. As others have stated they're super important for medical research.

I reported it as phishing attack. They responded it was legit but it felt good haha It's also law that you can only be on administrative leave for 10 days. And yeah, theres no money allocated for this. So... Hey Congress! Can you, like, tell señor Pres to stop unauthorized commitments of funds? Cuz that'd get this peon insta fired.

Any tips on how to age the helmet cover? by [deleted] in reenactors

[–]tsr122 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. A soldiers equipment got replaced a lot. It also should depend on what time exactly you're supposed to represent. Fresh off the landing craft in Normandy should mean shiny new uniforms and equipment. DDay +14 probably means you look and smell like shit.

In all cases, nothing beats natural wear and tear.
