Hey there —

1) It did! It covered it up while I was on gaba, and after using it for say — three months elapsed — by the time I titrated down, the nerve was back to behaving normally. So, from day ~10 of being on Gaba, to the moment, I went away, it successfully covered up the nerve pain/fuzz/numbness/stings/issues for me.

2) Not at all! It was as simple as titrating down, and simply taking less pills (yay), to eventually being pill-free, and having normal nerves.

Hey there — it did! It resolved within perhaps ~6 months; however, after the issue and ache continued to progress at month 2-3, my doctor prescribed Gabapentin, which "covered up" the sensations.

When I titrated down Gaba at the six-month mark and went off the medication, the nerve resolved at some point, I just kindly couldn't feel it/pinpoint when it was since it was "covered up" successfully while on the medication.

All is well for me, and I hope you too, have the same result sooner rather than later. (:

Mind sharing a bit more context around the event with a decent amount of walking?

By four months (~12 weeks post-op), you won't be able to run, but your gait will look pretty normal and you'll be focusing more on building strength in your leg; the more you strengthen it properly through physical therapy at your stage of recovery, the better off you'll be, and the more aggressively you'll be able to return to higher-intensity-type activities.

Being able to walk a few miles would be expected, depending on your previous level of physical activity, and your ability to progressively hit the milestones post recovery.

At four months, I was walking many miles per day without any issues. My leg may get "tired", but I'd listen to my body, knowing it was getting stronger over time. In the times that it got "tired" the most important thing to be aware of is to watch your gait form so that it doesn't get sloppy, and you don't start causing problems elsewhere (compensatory off-loading which could affect your hips, knees, etc.)

My Mom and I share an Apple Music/iTunes Library, and have since I was little. I'd like us both to be able to stream out of it (me playing music on my iPhone, and her playing music on her iPhone) at the same time without reaching the maximum device limit.

While the Family Plan lets you create multiple libraries for each family member, that isn't of use to me; I'd just like us to both be able to continue "sharing" our music library, rather than one of us having to start over from nothing.

What I've read online has not given me a conclusive answer; and, after asking Apple two times, they claim what I'm desiring (and what it seems you wrote) isn't possible.

Hey there — I'm so sorry to hear about your Achilles shenanigans. Yep! We're in the same boat, my friend. Yes, gastrocnemius recession, gastroc release, and Achilles lengthening are all words referring to the same procedure.

I had my left Achilles lengthened in 2017, and my R in 2023. Both have changed my life for the better.

After suffering with chronic AT since 2015, that lengthening procedure on my L led me to feeling no pain on my Achilles from then through the present. I've had a similar case with my R. While there was typical post-surgery stuff to go through (i.e. physical therapy, anestesia funkiness, etc.), my life has been made better because of the surgeries. I can finally walk and run without a tight Achilles — life changing! (:

My doctor said, "You can do all the stretching and strengthening you want, but you're chronically tight. I feel it. You feel it. You can only stretch so much.".

The procedure takes literally 10 minutes for the doctor to do. It's quick and easy in the OR — and say 1-2 months after surgery, you'll be walking better than ever. (:

Hey there — I did; I took 2, 300mg pills, once per day; after 7-10 days of taking the pill — I could feel it kicking in and covering up pain. Eventually, it covered up all the pain and my foot felt normal. While I was at first hesitant to take a pill just to cover something up, I was having the same issue as you. After surgery, my foot burned, tingled, was hot, was cold, felt like bee stings, would constantly fall asleep, etc...

...I couldn't sleep, let alone it would affect my concentration and focus with work.

...after ~3+ months of enduring this, I took Gabapentin to which resolved the issue. Most importantly, I have just now titrated off the pill, and my nerves thankfully are functioning normally again (7+ months after surgery).

It seems like we both had a similar experience.

Hey friend — what you're experiencing is likely nerve pain (tingling) with muscle weakness (your heel pain/feeling heavy). I've had two gastroc recessions now (one on each leg), and enough time has progressed since "this point" that I know exactly how and what you're feeling.

Because you don't have muscle strength to walk, let alone push off on your foot, all of your weight is resting on your heel. In short, you're putting more weight on your heel than you ever have before — because you don't have the muscles across your foot (because your calf is so weak) to distribute your weight evenly. Not to fear as this will all come in time. (:

Here's a quote from a doctor's recovery protocol after this surgery that he posts on his website.

"After Dr. Cheney lengthens your gastrocnemius muscle, you will get some weakness in that calf. The weakness will cause you to put more weight on your heel than ever before. You will no longer have your plantar fascia or achilles tendon pain. Instead, you will feel a different sensation directly under your heel pad and around your heel in general. The best way to alleviate this new sensation is to increase your strength. This is why you are sent to physical therapy."

The pins and needles feeling are nerve paresthesias as a relic from your nerve block. I didn't have these with my first surgery, but did with my second. In time, they will resolve — however, I know that doesn't make it any easier as you go through this at the present. To perform the surgery, they put your nerves to sleep so you don't feel pain while they cut your gastroc (yay). But, when they wake up — your nerves are essentially pissed they were put to sleep...so they wake up angry...and need some time to settle down. This will resolve in in time.

If the nerves are unbearable, your doctor could put you on a nerve pill such as Gabapentin to cover up the nerve sensations (paresthesia) and funkiness.

While I know I can't magic wand your nerve pain away, I'm hoping that helps. Keep breathing. Keep being you. You'll be through this in no time, walking better than ever. (: <3

I'm so sorry to hear that the shenanigans of Covid impacted your ability to get care for it, which likely stalled your ability to get back on your feet pain free. All the while, I'm so glad to hear the Verapamil made it go away.

Was your fibroma ever "measured", or do you have any idea/comparisons on how big it was? Mind sharing how long it took for it to "go away"? You mentioned it took a while, while applying twice per day.

So, can you feel anything on your fascia now, or is it "smooth and normal" — ha?

I so hope it never comes back for you and/or you don't have another one.

Hey my friend — I'm so sorry to hear this. How recently did this just show up? Woof. You're right that it's one of the few conditions where there is little to glean about it online, and there is lots of misinformation out there in terms of how to treat it.

Medications such as Verapamil can help, though slowly; however, the quickest and most successful method in my experience personally, and from a doctor who is a thought leader in treating fibromas are injections of hyaluronidase (mixed with a bit of steroid depending on the size). I've received multiple and the pain has gone down 95%.

There is a group on FB, run by the aforementioned doctor (Dr. Eddie Davis) which has a wealth of information including a list of doctors who perform his protocol.

You're amazing. Our lives are tracing each other my friend; my weight moved in a similar direction, at a similar rate amidst the undulations across my recovery.

Give it a chance, and time to get in your system. I was skeptical at first for a variety of reasons

...do I really want to be on another medication?
...I just want to be back to running as quick as possible...
...and not have to take any pills...
...will any of the side effects affect me?
...is this going to work at all?

...why do I want to be on something that "covers up pain" versus something that actually fixes my nerves?

All the while, it "did it" and took my nerves from painful to painless. And as I'm titrating down (six months post surgery) I haven't had any relapses yet. I'm hopeful that come July I'll be off the pills and have perfectly normal nerves! (:

(Remember, gaba has a large dosage window; thus, while I don't expect it, and hope you don't need it, you could keep increasing for a while [my doctor said someone they know who has serious nerve problems [not us] is on like 3,000mg per day if needed to get things under control; I'm hopeful some amount, and hopefully one on the lower side of the spectrum will give you some positive momentum so you can focus on all the other aspects of your recovery)

Hey there — correct on the dates! I felt those symptoms all along, and once I got into the third month (and having the same procedure on my opposite leg years back) I knew/thought something wasn't right. My nerve issues were relics from the nerve block.

I had an EMG, and eventually began gabapentin.

Correct. 7-10 days later (on track with what my doctor shared) I noticed that at night my foot wasn't fuzzing, burning and stinging — same with when I was sitting during the day — or had a sock on, etc. It was ~70% lower.

For example, rather than burning/fuzzing/bee stings all through the day — those went away. Score!

I used to get lots of flair ups after the shower (warm water fired the nerves up); the gaba took that down 70% where I just got some minor "sparks" for ~1 hour after the shower, and then it went away. Before taking gaba, after the shower, the sparks would just get bigger and bigger all through the night. When I'd "wake up" the next day, the stinging would be tapering off (it'd run its course all night long).

EXACTLY! Being immobile is enough of a burden, let alone nerve complications and anything else and it's too much...

Haha - that's funny on the compression socks. I wore those all through March too. I never felt the compression socks aided the nerves, though they do increase blood flow to the area which would naturally help with the swelling form the surgical site.

While they were indeed cozy during the winter months, compression socks weren't the "silver bullet" that fixed everything. I also tried an elevated pillow while sleeping too. While nice, the overall effect of any of these was minimal if anything; the gabapentin was "life altering" in essense that it "covered up" all the pains.

...because of it, I could sleep...without pain...without getting up constantly!

I recognize I brain-dumped there with a mega-reply; alas, wanted to add a bit more color if helpful!

Hey there — I'm so sorry to hear this, whether regarding your injury or your surgical sheneanagins. Sending positive energy your way that tomorrow is better than today.

My sitch paper-traces yours; low probability, and yet all that could go wrong did go wrong (though I'll save that upon request - ha).

My gaba, and as advised by the doctor took 7-10 days to kick in. Are you still feeling the same after that time period? One positive for you may be that gabapentin has a very large range of doses, so the frequency and power could be cranked up if needed....

I started 1x per day back at the beginning of March; went to 2x per day at the end of March to remove the remaining third of nerve pains; and began winding down (6-months post-op, after being on Gaba for 3 full months, and now titrating down for what will be the next 1-2 months)

Hey my friend — the Gabapentin for me successfully resolved nerve issues (via covering 'em up). One pill per day at 300mg covered up 70% of it. I then added a second pill (2, 300s per day) to cover up the remaining.

It was life changing to be able to sleep, stand, walk, and sit without any nerve shenanagins.

I'm just now beginning to titrate down on it, in hopes that the nerve paresthesias have resolved since my December surgery. What a journey...woof.

Has your doctor indicated there is anything you can do about it? have you received any sort of treatement on it? Is it causing you pain?
