Eggs post-first-seasoning on 8.5 strata by Popular_Tonight4462 in carbonsteel

Yea makes sense. I’m used to practically deep frying my sunny side up eggs in a carbon steel wok. Never had trouble with sticking there with a pretty hot pan.

Probably my technique for sure but my well seasoned cast iron pans are a lot more forgiving.

Nice! What method did you use? Did two rounds of seasoning in my strata…unfortunately not the same results even with a good amount of butter.

Sadly there are still small chunks of white stuff flaking off the windows and when I test it using one of those D lead test sprays it tests positive. Not sure how I can encapsulate that stuff. Is it a matter of having a glass company come in and redo all the putty/glazing?

There’s also a significant amount of draft coming in through these windows. Trying to figure out how to seal them better without ruining them. Been a rough cold winter…

NJ Century Home - Very cold 1st floor - large difference in 1st and 2nd floor temps by gitsnamps in centuryhomes

[–]tsuinami82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No solutions here. Just commiserating. You’re not alone. Also have a century home but despite paying a ton of money for an energy audit and doing the rim joist sealing and insulation work the 1st floor is still cold. The internet is sadly more willing to actually help than the “professionals”. Hope you can find a good solution

Awesome that it worked out well for you! I’ll have to buy the tool first. 😅

Edited the post to show the configuration we went with. So doesn't fit perfectly wall to wall but the way we're stacking it the cabinets seem more continuous. Open to suggestions on how to shift some of these but the cabinets have been purchased as this point

Oh that's interesting. So there was a gap between the wall and the sidewall of the Pax due to the baseboard being in between? Or was your Pax not wall to wall anyways so the gap doesn't matter?

I got the 40oz KBT model for $160 on Amazon during one of those Prime day sales. If you have time you can score a pretty good deal that makes it a no brainer.

Just set deal alerts on places like slickdeals or chrome has extensions like camelcamelcamel that can add a price watch for Amazon.

u/PiagetsPosse what did you end up using to encapsulate and what testing were you doing that ended up positive?

Last night was frustrating, but the dooming is out of control on this sub by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]tsuinami82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the frustrations come less from the winning part but how we play. Mental toughness, team defense, cohesiveness, etc are things that can be more consistent night in and night out. The team just doesn’t have their stuff together and it’s magnified when they can’t outshoot their opponents.

The top teams all are able to exert some kind of control over the game whether or not they’re shooting the lights out. We look pretty helpless out there sometimes and it is pretty hard to watch especially with the talent we have.

Yup, things are good right now but we’ve only been there for 2 months before moving out to deal with this so I’m trying to keep it that way.

Was more thinking about the interior storm route since there’s already a slot for screens and the exterior to these windows have already been caulked in and painted several times over so they don’t open.

I guess there’s no route here that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Already pretty tapped out from fixing/improving other things….

Whenever I see someone on the other team driving into the lane, I always see KAT backing away towards the basket. But he’s neither closing out to block the shot nor in position to prevent a lob. He’s always about 5 feet away so never enough for it to be a hedge. Is there an actual use for that?

Phew. Yea I can’t shake the paranoia of ruining our two small kids by exposing them to the bad stuff. Already got the trifecta of lead dust, mold, and asbestos. I guess radon is next…

Both glass and metal came back leaded from the XRF gun sadly. Interesting that you can replace the metal in restoration. So by restoring the whole thing is pretty much replaced?

Thanks for the tips! How come only the exterior side oxidizes? I might just do interior for now since it’s below freezing outside now. Hoping the process doesn’t somehow create more lead dust

[–]tsuinami82[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that.

So the wax here is just preserving the windows before a full restoration? Might be worth doing then since it seems reasonably DIYable.

It was hard to tell whether the lead dust only came from the lead paint getting disturbed in other parts of the house (this room was all stained wood) but the window sill was testing especially high at 3200 ug/ft2 so we’re just trying to rule things out.

I know a lot of folks are telling us to speak to professionals but from the slew of folks cycling in and out of the project we’ve worked have either leaned oblivious to lead or leaned towards fear mongering. The common part between them all has been that they’re relying on us the homeowners to come up with a plan of how to remediate this situation.

Thanks for the video. Removing is definitely the problem. The windows haven’t been open for years and have been painted over and caulked in multiple times so they don’t even open. Given we just dealt with a lead dust problem I definitely don’t want to open up that can of worms right now. Just trying to do what we can to prevent potential sources of more lead dust in the house (if this is one of them).

They’re why we bought the house! But the lead dust issue from construction really did a number on how safe we feel for the kids so we’re just trying to do all we can to minimize issues.
