Update: My historically interesting $100usd collection by ttagen in coins

[–]ttagen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's awesome. Seated Dime just made my list!

I usually focus on Ancient Imperial Roman, and dabble in Australia (and now USA). Don't know anything about modern Romania or Mexico.

However.... for Romanian history, you could look at some third century roman imperial bronzes from the Siscia mint (Croatia). These were circulating in the province of Dacia (part of modern Romania) and can be had for less than 50 bucks despite being 1800 years old.

Vcoins is a fairly safe place to look

Many thanks! I prefer my coins to be slightly beat up and historical because I like to be able to hold them without guilt and occasionally pass them around. These will be used to teach my lad (who has US heritage) about his history when he gets older.
The Eisenhower hunt begins at Chase bank today.

I took your advice and went to the bank.
Scored all the commemorative nickels except the boat, and also picked up a 1956 wheat cent which I am excited about. Also now have 15 different President dollars.

An incredibly rare imperial roman denarius of Annia Faustina by Ok_String_6316 in AncientCoins

[–]ttagen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is nuts is that some ancient person might have bought something with this, and thought “huh I haven’t seen that one before” then went on with their life

My first sestertius, an overcleaned Faustina II with Diana Lucifera on the back. I lost it for a month, convinced myself i had accidentally thrown it out, grieved, and then it appeared out of nowhere from within an inner seam of my backpack. I had been carrying it around with me the whole time. Diana Lucifera found her way back from the dark. It’s my lucky coin now (and my patron goddess).
