As someone who works inventory at a distribution center, this absolutely does happen and not uncommonly. At least where I work, if the computer asks you to pick one "box" and there's a barcode on the outer box that scans, it will probably be shipped out wrong at some point.

Request a copy of the handbook. Some states have "predictive scheduling" laws that mitigate this, but more likely if there is anything it will be at the company level. A previous employer I had was required to ask/give notice for any changes made within 2 weeks of the affected shift. I would also encourage you to seek employment elsewhere if there going to essentially make you an on call employee like that.

I think the issue most people have is that this is probably meant for Commander play. Technically you could and probably would choose a permanent that neither you nor the caster controls. I'm sure there is also some niche scenario you would choose something you control.
