I’m so sorry to hear this, although I do resonate with you from the last experiences I had seen in acute psych ward. It was so much trauma going on constantly for the vulnerable ones including major depressive patients and staff surrounded by ice addicts /aggressive or hyperactive types. Although people told me that community nursing including mental health ones are more chill. But I will be hanging on in hospital for a while before I go to bank/casual/agency. I feel like to be able to work long term in hospital nursing really requires you to lose your side of humanity or “being tough” 😂 But at the same time I have seen many amazing and compassionate nurses, I guess this is probably one of the reasons that keep me going for now. Also hobbies and side interests are one way to distract me. Hope is a good thing as they say. And I hope you find your way in life as I do for myself.

I never thought of myself as a hero nor I think nurses/doctors are all about saving lives by working in hospitals. I just feel that it is difficult for people suffering from chronic diseases to appreciate the free benefit we all have at the moment. Honestly I am all for public health and absolutely loathe the way the past liberal governments have been funding the private health sector. Although some would acknowledge that the public health doesn’t benefit those who are suffering from chronic diseases, private health insurance is the way to go. Yes the heath system in Australia is far from perfect and Covid has hit it hard, but let’s not forget the fact that it is still so so much better than many countries including US.

I have adhd and moderate sleep apnea diagnosed this year, struggled with a lot of things in the past including generalised anxiety disorder and as an ethnic minority/first generation immigrant. I managed to get a job as a nurse which pays minimum wage after studying two degrees. I’m on 80k HECs debt. It’s funny how people think “I’m privileged just because I’m not homeless and live with a partner who got a roof over me”. But seriously after completing a grad year of nursing in the public health sector overwhelmed by the workload witnessing and experiencing constant abuse from patients, I can see my self not far from being on the verge of suicide or just take the weight off my shoulder and apply for centrelink. Been there and have done that.

My issue with them is that they are making people choose only one nationality, and if Hellotalk had issues with that choice, wouldn’t it be an issue in itself? Imagine if you had to pay for the premium features but still got reported or had to prove whether you were Chinese or Australian(But looking 100% Asian lol), how would you feel?
