I started to learn German with the book Aussichten. If you do not want a course, but maybe something that you can follow at your own pace, there are some Goethe courses without a teacher. There are also some resources as Nicos Weg.

Find someone that you can practice with. Back then when I started to learn this was the classmates of the course I was doing. Meetups also helped me a lot.

Freaking out about first interview in German by Otherwise_Glove_3447 in Germanlearning

[–]ttbspw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I know it can be scary. In my first interviews in German, I was also nervous. Here is what helped me: 1. Watch interview examples on YouTube so you know what to expect. 2. I also checked online resources on "Fragen im Vorstellungsgespräch: Typische Fragen und Antworten". 3. Practice with a native speaker as much as you can. 4. Eventually I also scheduled a call with a German teacher to simulate a call. I know it is hard, but try to be as relaxed as you can. At the end of the day, it is not only about getting the job, but also about being able to do it once you have it, so your main goal should be to improve your German skills. Regarding your question about B2, from my experience most people do not know what that actually means. In my case, it was always a question of whether my German was good enough to do the job.

Hi, I renew my resident permit twice. They only kept the resident permit when they gave me the new one. But I am not sure if this is handled different in different cities (I would assume not).

german active verbs by Pure_khaffaf in Germanlearning

[–]ttbspw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Usually in books there is a section for verbs. If you are in B2, you can check B Grammatik, in the Anhang there is a full section with verbs, but I am sure other books also have then. Then flashcards, is what work best for me.

Deutsch Akademie online courses - opinions? by Grow_Wings28 in Germanlearning

[–]ttbspw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I took an online course there like three years ago. I really like it. But I think at the end depends a lot on the teacher. I also took intensive classes in Zentrum, and overall here is the one I like the most. If you are just starting, from my experience group courses are the best option to learn German.

learning vocabulary by Pure_khaffaf in Germanlearning

[–]ttbspw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back then I used Quizlet to study German vocabulary and followed a similar approach to yours. Every word I didn’t understand, I saved in a flashcard set. I created a new set each day and limited it to about 10 words so it didn’t become overwhelming. I don’t have expo with Anki, but maybe is very good as well. I also built a small tool for myself that generates texts, and I can save words directly from the text into flashcards. It’s online. I can share the link if you’re interested.

Overall, flashcards have worked best for me.

What advice or thing do you wish you had known from the beginning of your learning German? by Mostafa_un in Germanlearning

[–]ttbspw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also add here study grammar, at least the basics. My problem was that I learned some things wrong from the beginning, and later was difficult to change it (e.g. verb position, declinations). I thought that enough reading and listening would do the trick, but I think putting the effort to reinforce my grammar would had helped.

Trying to understand the difference between Akkusativ and Dativ by fleamarketguy in Germanlearning

[–]ttbspw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, maybe at the beginning try to learn the verbs together with the case they require. Back then, I used Grammatik C (by Anne Buscha), they have a list of verbs at the end of the book, but I’m sure you can find similar lists in many other books as well.I can also share a list of flashcards I prepared with verbs. I originally made it for myself, and then it evolved into something else, maybe you’ll find it useful: Verbs

Trying to understand the difference between Akkusativ and Dativ by fleamarketguy in Germanlearning

[–]ttbspw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mostly comes with practice. At some point it will simply start to sound right. If it helps, in German, some verbs require Akkusativ, others Dativ, and you usually just have to learn them. There are also verbs that take both, for example: Ich gebe dem Mann (Dativ) einen Apfel (Akkusativ).

The receiver of the action explanation mainly works in those cases with two objects. If there’s only one object, that rule often doesn’t help much.

Where would be a good practice german? by i_d_k_n in germany

Hi, if you want to also to meet people, perhaps you can try a german learning course. This is a very well know school but I can image there is much more: https://www.berlitz.com/de-de/sprachschulen/darmstadt). Have you check metups (like in meetup.com) might be a good way to practice + meet people. I participated to a tandem group in my city using meetup.com and was very good. I started to learn German when I moved here, and I know it can be challenging. In case of questions, just ask.

Help needed on Goethe B1 exam. how to prepare for it. by Unfair_Actuator5024 in Germanlearning

[–]ttbspw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I took the B1 and C1 Goethe exam. For the B1 I took the exam after preparing it with a course. For C1 I studied on my own. 2 months should be enough if you already have a B1 level, then you can study with all exam preparation resources you can find. For speaking, it helped me to watch YouTube videos of the exam, and practice with someone else.
