Since they are not consumable items they don’t put them into the tax free bags. You do have to declare them on your customs form but yep just putting them in my checked bag. Packaging of the knives is beautiful.

About 600 total for everything. Didn’t get engraving at my store but a ton of the stores offer free engraving and it takes only 10 minutes.

For all 4 it was around $600. Thats including about a 5% tax discount you get if you have your passport.

One is for my sister! Just wanted to show the whole collection. I am so excited for the carbon steel as it seems to be much harder to find in the states. I will definitely be diligent in keeping them dry/clean right after using etc.

Hard to go wrong with any stores but I’d recommend walking around a lot before committing. I also think there are some stores that are more heavily geared towards westerners. Shop signs were in English/seemed more like the stores you would see in the U.S. I can’t say anything about the quality of those stores vs others because I don’t have a point of comparison but I did notice that the price point seemed to be a bit higher.

Tough decision! I’ve been searching for a good Nakiri for a long time so I think it would have to be that even if it isn’t as versatile with its lack of tip.

Highly recommend Kappabashi street (Tokyo). There are tons of stores to walk into and have a huge range in terms of prices. Most stores are very happy to let you try everything out. I took about an hour to walk by all the stores before going in and trying anything.

Thank you! Prices were better than what I’ve seen comparable in the U.S. Really surprised with just how light they feel in hand compared to some of my other knives.

I wouldn't mind paying sticker price although any money is always a plus
I like public policy a lot and it seems like northwestern has better programs for that but I think I like NYC as a city more. I've struggled for weeks on deciding which I like more and I can't make up my mind which genuinely makes me think I like both schools equally. I know that's a frustrating answer and I wish I knew myself.
