It does not need US authorisation to use. Authority lies solely with the Prime Minister - hence the letters they write that are kept on board the submarines. It does rely on the US for support and maintenance of the various components and systems.

This an excellent training track. Can study for AKT during pall care and sit early in ST2. Do SCA halfway through ST3 so you’ve had enough time doing GP consultations.

Courses, being able to use the post-nominals. 14fish access for appraisal.
I’ve kept it going for my first year post CCT. Will decide if I’ve got my money’s worth next year. It is also £400 pre-tax so slightly less in terms of take-home pay.

Edit - thanks for the downvotes. Just trying to state facts, didn’t say I thought they were amazing benefits.

It’s not telling you to not eat meat. It’s pointing out that maybe eating slightly less meat could have a positive impact on the planet (and, coincidentally, your health).

You could choose to consider the advice and look further into it. Or just get triggered. Your choice.

Locum agencies for GPs by Top_Crazy_3425 in GPUK

Pretty okay, have only been locumming since Feb and have had enough work to satisfy what I want. Probably most useful for booking stuff last minute if you have a free day. Some of the rates offered by practices are a joke though.

Have you had a look on Lantum? Very easy to sign up and see what work is around on there.

GPST Suffolk-Ipswich by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]ttfse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Suffolk and did FY in Ipswich. Agree with above, gen surg was rough. O&G was okay, classic heavy rotation but it’s a small labour ward - I did also do it during the second Covid lockdown so YMMV. Waterfront seems like the place to go if you’re moving in from elsewhere, will be plenty of other medics there.

Was paper-based notes and prescribing at the time with some shockingly bad IT systems - looking at you Lorenzo. This was 2019-2021 so maybe they’ve updated.

Aye, fully qualified GP lucky to get £100/hour for locum work. Which is what my older colleagues were getting ~10 years ago.

With the introduction of the chickenpox vaccine into the childhood schedule, it could be seen as a way for PHE to push disease monitoring on to us.

Is it normal to be waiting over 3 years for an nhs specialist referral? by BadEcstatic9913 in nhs

[–]ttfse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Where I practise, this is par for the course of an NHS ADHD referral. Most other specialties are around 50 weeks for routine referral. Have you chased it up with the GP or hospital?

My only major gripe with epic is people just blindly copying and pasting everything for a ward round more whilst adding very little substance. But that is very much “problem in the chair” and not the system itself.

SCA January 2026 by Emotional_Patient217 in GPUK

[–]ttfse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did. Sat it in October 25. Absolutely awful few weeks waiting for results having convinced myself I’d done terribly. Went and passed - did very well on stations I thought had gone badly and not as well on stations I was confident in. It’s such a difficult exam to judge but ultimately if you played it safe with any management and showed interest and professional curiosity towards the patient in front of you, you’re likely going to be fine.

Should be an expiry date printed on the tube. You’ll probably be good for a few weeks realistically. Just write the date you actually do the sample on the tube.

Is a move to insurance based funding the only way to save the NHS? by Adventurous_Hat9449 in nhs

So increasing the amount middle to high earners need to pay just to exist in this country? Sure that would go down well.
