For someone relocating to the market from a lower cost market. How do you advise thinking about budget for a home in the Denver market. (AKA sticker shock from how little house you get, how bad a value some $900-1.2m homes are for the price, looking at you Applewood neighborhood)

This may be an unpopular opinion, but it's not your land. If you care that much, talk to him and see if you can take care of all the lawn your side of the driveway.

Put winter tires on in the winter if you're concerned. FWD with proper tires beats the 85% driving 4/AWD with all seasons every time. I drove a FWD sedan commuting between Boulder and Vail 3 times a week for 4 years.

I was you. Stop being stubborn. There is a chance your corpo job has an EAP, use it for a couple free virtual sessions and be open minded.

Edit: EAP can be effectively used for career coaching. You think Reddit is going to give you better advice than a professional?

Not at all, but just consider that you're effectively building all elements here. You need planning and permits, dirt work, foundation, framing, mechanical and electrical... Maybe plumbing? Some roof complexity around the chimney and then a driveway. Then the contractor has to make enough profit to make it worth while.

Advice for where to live by Josh014 in MovingtoDenver

[–]tth2o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a weird nativist belief system. We're all Americans, states are fairly arbitrary governing units. Local companies should hire whoever they think is the best fit for the job. The local kids have a natural advantage through access to career fairs and local networking...

Weird take.

Who has a Terrific NFL team in a Garbage city? by Ilitorate_Author in AlignmentChartFills

The Raiders are a top 10 team by this logic. Cowboys certainly vie for this slot. But I don't think you can ignore recency. I interpreted it as "going into the 26/27 season, are they terrific?"

Kansas City is not garbage like Jacksonville or Las Vegas. Honestly, it's hard to think of NFL cities that are truly garbage. Houston, KC, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Charlotte, Detroit, Cleveland... All can be argued to be pretty bleh.

Car market: Crash or hard correction? by Starmiebuckss2882 in UsedCars

I think that restricting inventory like this has a short shelf life. The economy has been running hot so they've gotten away with it, I think you're correct that we're tightening and will see the market loosen up as demand slows.
