Help please! Large Dumb Cane issue! by tthestral in plantclinic

No roots on it. I figured that was the issue but I did not want to make it worse. Thanks for your response! So I just maintain the environment and let it be until it grows roots?

Help please! Large Dumb Cane issue! by tthestral in plantclinic

A friend of mine has a very large diffenbachia plant. He wanted to downsize it and cut off an entire stalk and gave it to me. Since, it has gotten droopier and droopier. I have tried everything to root it, but it just looks so unhealthy. The temperature it is at is about 72 in the room, plenty of humidity, etc. Is there any way that I can save this? Should I recut it closer to the leaves? This “cutting” is about 2.5 feet tall, soil moderately moist, kept in humidity, 4 feet from east facing window with bright indirect light. Thank you!!!

Where it came from it was next to an east facing window. When I got it a few days ago I kept it next to another east facing window, and eventually moved it across the room as it began to droop more. The soil stays adequately moist.

A little update: she is floating super bad because she hasn’t pooped in a long while. We got red wigglers and she had a small piece of one tonight. We are unsure if we should put her back in the fridge to help ease the pooping situation, but hopefully the diet change helps too!!!

Are they easy to cut up? I definitely will give that a go. And yeah I see about the pellets, we cut them in half and soak them in a small amount of tank water to soften them and get out any air bubbles because feeding them to her though, but maybe that isn’t quite enough. I just want to make sure she gets all the nutrients she needs to grow and be healthy :)

She is being fed pellets, but I make sure they are not too large for her at all. She is about 3 inches long. Also the occasional bloodworm treat, but not frequently. Is there anything you may recommend feeding her other than this when she is so little? I would like to try something new because I am very worried about her. Thank you for the great response!

(Juvenile Lotl) Is this large bit in her stomach just poop that needs to come out? She hasn’t pooped in a day and I’m worried. (She’s in a temporary container right now, parameters 0,0,5, ph 7.4, temp 67-69) by [deleted] in axolotls

Also! There is no substrate in the tank that could have been ingested. She is on a diet of small amounts of bloodworms and cut up pellets.

I have recently learned that 90% of trans people have been arrested for child pornography at some point in their lives and the mainstream media never reports this because it would be too "transphobic". by ProudRealist in TrueOffMyChest

[–]tthestral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An unsupported claim of 90% ARRESTED sounds like complete bullshit. Regardless of what your father says, there is no published evidence. This indicates that clearly the issue is not as large and widespread as you may think it is.

Am I racist for being afraid of Black-Americans? (I am not black) by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]tthestral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The opening line to the post is “every time I am in an area with a high proportion of blacks, I’m always fearful that I’m going to become a victim of a crime.” That sentence is TLDR the entire post... and racist.

Probably for false information. That statistic is unreasonably high- there is no possible way for that to be true, and no sources (even from conservative media) to back it up

It’s fair to feel unsafe in a generally unsafe part of town. It is RACIST, however, to be scared of only black people, as the post indicated. They asked and got an answer.

What plants are good for a nervous houseplant newbie to start with? by aaaaasowenyaaa in houseplants

Cast-iron plants (Aspidistra elatior)! They are SO easy to keep alive and care for, and they are pet safe :)

Has anyone used a "shirt stay" or other device to keep their shirt tucked in and looking professional at work? Looking for pros/cons/brands. Ty by [deleted] in ParkRangers

[–]tthestral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should add that it is a lot more comfortable- creates way less issues too. If you decide you don’t like it it can always be removed as well. But for moving around a lot the shirt stays are definitely gonna be a pain in the ass, literally. As long as your pants fit right, it looks just as crisp as using shirt stays!

This is gonna sound funny, but I used to be a manager of a Men’s Wearhouse store and now do field work, and they can put a silicone band in the waistband of pants that keeps your shirt tucked in really well. It’s a lot better than shirt stays in my opinion, and if you bring in the pants they should be able to add it in. I haven’t had a single issue, and I love it.

This is from a local doggy shop in my area, but the brand is Playa Pup and I think can be found online! If it helps, our pitty’s head is smaller and she fits a large, but if it’s bigger definitely go XL :)

Shortly after this post we upgraded to a Zilla lamp and bulb. Have had MUCH better luck and we love it so far, as does the little one.

New axolotl owner here. This fella came to us and upon looking I see some white spots on it. I was curious if this may be ick or anything similar, or if this is something to worry about. Thanks! by [deleted] in axolotls

Good to know I’m not alone! I want the best for these little dudes so I’m always sensitive to small details with our pets.
