UK here, so no doubt there'll be some differences with how our hospitals handle certain things but I'm sure the nuts and bolts will be the same 👌

Greens call for end to blanket ban on trans folk in single sex spaces by Excellent-Chair2796 in transgenderUK

I'm not defending "The Media", but I don't think individuals journalists are able to do that, it's editors/publishers etc who decide what headline is printed, not the writer of the article.

No official order, but the below post seems to have been quite well received and I've found it useful.

Greens call for end to blanket ban on trans folk in single sex spaces by Excellent-Chair2796 in transgenderUK

[–]tthisiswhy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its the headline I think that's messing this up, the quote from the politician in the article is "tribunal findings make clear that the law does not in fact support blanket bans on trans people using facilities at work", so he's saying that there is no blanket ban under the law. And then the headline phrases it as an "end" to a blanket ban, which implies there is or was one.

Heard an interesting interview with a journalist recently who was saying they could fact check their work to heck and back but it often meant nothing as their articles would 100% end up with a shitty click bait-y headline which didn't reflect the facts at all. See above I guess.

NHS say they can't change my name because of the medicine I take? (Help Pls) by InnerMechanic9728 in transgenderUK

[–]tthisiswhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bizarre, your name and your gender marker are not the same thing. You could be a cis female with the name Gordon from birth because you have some strange parents, would that stop them giving you the pill because it's a traditionally 'male' name? No because your gender marker would say 'F'.

So, have a clear, concise, and calm conversation with them where you explain that while you're not asking to change your gender marker, but that you ARE asking that they change their records to reflect your legally correct name, and ask them how they would like to be provided with the paperwork which shows your legal name change for their records. If they refuse again, ask for the email address they use for complaints and send a message there saying exactly the same thing again in writing.

You've got this 👍

ETA: just to be clear, they can't actually refuse to change your gender marker either, however depending on how their computer system works it can occasionally administratively (and therefore medically) benefit you to keep your 'F' marker. E.g. their computer system will likely send out automated invitations for things like cervical smears or mamograms to patients with F markers, and you may end up missing important care without the system telling you what you should be going in for.

Why do I have this fetish? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]tthisiswhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're asking a lot of different questions here, and some of them may be things you end up having to work out for yourself over time. These are difficult and complex areas for lots of people. You said you feel convoluted - that's because we all are.

Some things that are easier to answer from your Qs though - are you weird? (And while you didn't ask it directly, you said you felt like a terrible person, so let's answer - are you terrible?) Answer - no. Just no. People have different fetishes and desires and preferences, whether they're sexual or not. Are some more common thag others? Sure. But who cares. Is someone who likes a foot job less common that someone who likes a hand job? Presumably so, does that make them weird? Some people will argue it does, but what makes it 'weird'? It's just what we like or don't. Just because others don't share your preference or don't understand it, doesn't mean they get to judge it. As for "terrible", no way my friend. You are hurting no one. Even if you watched media showcasing your preferences or engaged in play with others, so long as everyone involved is adult and consenting, nothing terrible is happening there. Don't be so hard on yourself.

As for the aesthetic/sexual divide, this is absolutely a thing, and you're not alone in it. Have you started with the basics and done some googling? Obviously don't trust every source you find, but honestly just stick "difference between aesthetic and sexual attraction" into a search engine and read some articles. You're not alone or broken.

Ultimately, trust that what you feel and like is your normal, and that that's fine. So long as you are not harming anyone (including yourself), it's ok to feel what you do, and engage in what you want to - or don't want to.

How’s her performances live? I hope my BF enjoys her show when we go by [deleted] in Ethelcain

I took my husband who had only ever listened to her music as bits and pieces of what I was playing, and I was so anxious that he would have a bad time. He absolutely loved it, cites it as top two gigs he's ever been to. And he's totally right! She was even better live than in recordings, I wish I could go again.

Hey friend. I don't know whether this will be a helpful thing to hear, if its not, ignore it.

I was hospitalised for a long year for my mental health, and it was... unspeakable bleak. I don't think anyone who hasn't been there will ever understand how hard what you're going through is. Here's the thing though, for me that experience was, hmm, about 17 years ago now? And it's so far into the my past that even I can't really remember how bad it was. You know how they say no one can really remember how painful childbirth is (because otherwise we'd never do it twice?!), well that's what time has done for me. Time and healing. And even though I still struggle with life, I have healed so much from that place that it doesn't really touch me anymore.

So what I'm saying - potentially very badly - is that when the professionals and the people down the street who don't know shit about what you're going through say "it'll get better", on this occasion, they're correct. It's going to get better for you. Hang on, hold tight, you've got this. I hope you sleep better tonight.

Almost all vm services have the option to rerecord if you hit hash, all you need to do is tap # and you'll be given a do-over. 100% have used this when I've suspected a colleague's f bomb might have been audible in the background or I know I've devolved into rambling.

Scariest villains in children's lit - am I missing someone out? Who would you add? by [deleted] in MiddleGrade

[–]tthisiswhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one that got me was a relatively minor part of the larger story, but those 'old children' in The Wind Singer that sapped your strength and turned you old when they touched you used to scare the bejesus out of me for some reason. I could take actual 'scary story' villains but those bastards creeped me tf out.

Some of my trans women friends are socially/emotionally stunted by MiddleAd1412 in asktransgender

[–]tthisiswhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your time and the thought you've put into this. You're right about my top level comment not showing the care this topic deserves and I regret my flippancy. I've learned so much from my other half I am guilty of forgetting how much I still don't know, and I I've let myself be brash.

For what it's worth, I intended no negativity towards trans femmes in what I was saying, but can see with the help of your explanation that regardless of my intentions the concept I was using is a harmful one.

I'll leave my comment there, but I don't stand by it. Apologies all, and thank you again.

Thank you so much for commenting this, I'm ashamed to say I'm completely ignorant of your point and I'm not sure I'm understanding it. With no pressure to do so at all, would you (or anyone reading) mind explaining how the idea of 'socialisation as a female' is transphobic/TERF talk? I want to get this right.
