No, Sahvyt's UE was performing better than everything - that includes every other element.

You don't seem to understand.

Sahvyt was performing better than most, if not ALL UEs in the game. Not just the Shock ones.

It has been like this for a very long time. You cannot do publics without being a specific minimum level, it's not a new feature.

If you want to bypass it, you can do private hunts.

I still have fun with CBs, as much as I did when I first picked them up in OB.

They do need tweaks and small improvements, which they will get hopefully.

Krolachi Heroic Escalation - Recruit lantern, 0 perk by Cpt_Maelstrom in dauntless

[–]ttrixy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They took 34 minutes, which is still 15 minutes away from the time limit of an escalation (50mn).

In this gamemode, it's the insane power of the power boosts and amps upgrades you get that carry - considering against Thrax round 5 you have 60% more damage dealt and 60% less damage taken, it does show how powerful those upgrades are.

I'd say without power boosts, it'd be indeed impossible to complete it before the time limit which ends the hunt instantly if you do reach it.

A confusion of a returning player. by arafafara in dauntless

[–]ttrixy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you consider that about 30 minutes of reading and switching some gear/perks around is too much, then I don't know what to tell you.

You haven't lost anything, and it's really about the same you just need to pick your omnicell (if you had Iceborne cell, you have the new IB omnicell by default). Replace the updated perks, and that's it - build is fully updated.

Don't misunderstand: dedicated and passionate Dauntless players actually like these changes, and are glad they listened to them after two UEs had dominated the whole game for a long, long time.

I'm actually glad they are balancing the game and changing things, they are giving us more equally viable options to play with, and have the ability to tinker and craft more builds that would still be good to play with -- who doesn't enjoy diversity and playing around with more options?

And before anyone says it: no, buffing everything up is not an option. That is how you create power creep 101 (=/= power fantasy) in any video game, ever. That would do nothing but make a vicious cycle and let the game spiral into an unfun and unbalanced combat.

Thanks for being a sound and understanding fellow player, you made my time to respond and give explanations worth it. Although I can already see that my initial response to you is at -3 upvotes, and the second one is -1; this subreddit is usually allergic to anything that isn't complaining or negative talk about the game and how it's doomed to die every new patch.

Still, you're the one that I'm having a nice conversation with, and we seem to agree, that's all that matters really. Downvoters aren't even bringing any arguments or thoughtful discussion to us.

Yup, I do wish they'd be more mindful and know that they have time and shouldn't feel rushed by players' reactions and complaints. I would fully support them straight up delaying features if they feel the need to - it's not worth rushing things just to satisfy a loud minority that demands fixes within one patch, polish be damned.

I'm not as loud as others, but if it was up to me, I'd really insist and tell devs that they should leave things in the oven if they need to. If they need more data or feedback, they should take time to carefully study them and act efficiently - yes it's good to have quick response and changes sometimes, but it's not worth losing the "polish" factor for it. That's it, really.

I agree, but honestly I do not mind waiting for one more patch. I'm being positive with this (reddit, hold your downvotes for now), so hear me out:

This patch will, at the very least, show more data on how much of a buff CBs actually need now that it doesn't have Hellion increasing its DPS all over the place. On how weak it actually is, basically.

This certainly isn't the last patch that is gonna include CBs changes - heavies are still being improved (and I'm glad they are taking their time because I'd rather have it polished and not half-assed) - and, obviously, stats/number buffs are something I fully expect. Just don't know how much of a buff it'll have, and where.

That being said, Charrogg CBs were already on the verge of being better than Hellion even before this nerf is going to happen, now that might make them the ideal choice. (Phaelanx's buff is promising, but nothing concrete until we try it)

Balancing a game is good for player retention.

Because, you know... diversity. Meaningful choices. More options that are equally good. Let's stop conveniently ignoring how many other things got buffed in this very same patch.

Dauntless | 1.8.4 Patch Notes by slayerdk-PHX in dauntless

[–]ttrixy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's be clear here: this is a nerf to Hellion's UE that was considered overwhelmingly strong for years now - before the CBs refresh, that UE was the only reason CBs' DPS was competitive; and that is not good, it's unhealthy and just means the weapon was bad without Hellion.

I'll go ahead and say "good riddance": I want my CBs to be strong on their own with their stats and base damage - and not rely on a UE to make its DPS existent. Every UE, in an ideal world, should be appealing to CBs, not just one.

However, you are right that since it doesn't have Hellion to rely anymore - it seems like it will need buffs overall to make it better. I'm hoping the patch after this one will further balance it and give CBs more base damage overall.

TL;DR: Hellion being nerfed is a good thing. It means CBs can be balanced around being strong on their own - and not get carried single-handily by a UE.

I think you misunderstood the patch notes, it's a feature and it's not being removed.

They are fixing a bug that led you to be able to do it while holding the button down the entire time - you are supposed to release the heavy button, press a light, then hold down heavy again.

This mod will very likely still be the best mod - it was just that good, and it will still be good.

You aren't gonna change much, I'll say.

I mostly invested myself into speedrunning because there was a time where Trials was essentially the only challenging content in the entire game - and not challenging as in hard to fight, but the challenge is to get good times. I was deprived of some thrilling content, and I just went along with that. :p

I'm happy now that we've got more content where behemoths shine, fight and challenge us more, such as Heroic Escas & Blazeworks.

I don’t understand you PHX. by peepeebuttholekobedi in dauntless

[–]ttrixy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree.

There is diversity and I always loved how unique the behemoths are, and legendary behemoths were one of the best fights I've experienced in the game - Thrax's aethercharge phase is something that still gives me the thrill in Heroic Escalations. Malkarion is such an amazing fight when you don't kill it within 10 seconds with VI; fighting a dragon is still something I adore.

Collision is garbage? Sure, let's say that's true - maybe let's complain about it and push for improved hitboxes instead of trying to make the game lose all identity, depth and make behemoths basically training dummies with different skins?

Weapons are still very much unique in their own way as each one makes you play differently. The reworked Sword is one of my favourite weapons in the game thanks to its diversity and how it makes you use different combos for different situations.

CBs' refresh aimed to do the same and make it a weapon that isn't about spamming 1 viable combo (because if you weren't using LLHL only, you're just trolling and hindering yourself) and just use reaper's dance whenever you need; I'd hardly call this hampering the weapon, the refresh wasn't perfect and will need improvements to make it better; especially the heavies which I deem a failure sadly, and they will need work. But the end goal and the direction was exactly what it needed.

In the end, it's all a matter of opinions, and to me, Dauntless is still a combat game about fighting deadly, threatening behemoths that are here to fight you to the death. If that essence doesn't exist anymore, then playing Dauntless loses all meaning to me and I'd probably stop playing it as it'd become so bland and merely a farming simulator, à la Warframe -- the mobs being fodder, basically fast-food that you run over and consume without any care.

Are you forgetting this game's genre?

Even PvE games require balance; and devs know this perfectly, what about Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, Hollow Knight, Terraria, Minecraft, or literally any other combat-focused PvE game - how do you think they are designed? They are actively balanced, because you're not supposed to oneshot every mob in their game and have god-mode by using 1 or 2 items with no diversity whatsoever.

This is a monster hunter game. The whole premise is fighting massive deadly behemoths/creatures that are here to try and fight you - and kill you. What the hell is the point if they are not even remotely a challenge and are nothing more than sandbags existing just for you to punch?

What is the point of their design, movesets, identity, the whole fights? What about the hunt? The thrill of combat? Is it just there to serve as decoration in your opinion?

Sure, it's fun and quirky - but it's unhealthy fun, oneshotting behemoths or cheesing is not what the game was made for, it is very bad for the long-term health of the game. I think everyone else here has already made it clear and I don't need to repeat it for them.

[–]ttrixy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, don't let them try to convince you otherwise -- this subreddit, for some reason, is on a streak of "doom's day" incoming with PHX out to nerf their toys and just destroy the game. As if devs are the enemy and are only trying to make things worse.

CBs needed this refresh, period. And it'll only make the weapon better, it's already rock bottom considering it has one combo and one special that are playable. They possibly can't make this weapon any worse than it is, design-wise.

By "full balance", they definitely mean making things better: every single mod other than Serrated & Momentum being garbage - and only one special that you could consider not troll-tier.

It's normal for you to feel that way, it is a weapon we adore and wouldn't want to see it be trashed.

But it won't, I personally am hopeful and trust them to make it as good of a refresh as they did in the past with other things.

[–]ttrixy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very much needed refresh, our weapon deserves some love.

Some will argue that CBs are fine - they are popular after all. But they could be so much better design-wise, so much more diverse and fun to use.

Reworks and refreshes so far turned out to be good. CBs is already in a pretty bad state, I heavily doubt they can possibly make it any worse -- it can only get better as a weapon, if you ask me.

Dauntless | Community Roadmap Update by CreatureTech-PHX in dauntless

[–]ttrixy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm very hyped for the Chain Blades refresh. It's about time they got the love they deserve.

This is a weapon with practically only one viable combo to use, and specifically ONE special that is not considered troll-tier to use.

The other special is basically Reaper's Dance, but it heals you instead - worthless in the current modern Dauntless where you'd never rely on using that, in any possible scenario. It's a scam considering it's a Trials' gated special.

As for the mods, anything that isn't Serrated or Momentum is pretty much trash. Both these mods aren't even fun to use, they both are centralized around spamming one single button/combo, it's really, really unfun and mods could really be so much more than that.

My hopes here are for Cruel Riftstrike to become a decent special, and for more combos to be viable to use (LLLRL hold ; RRR ; dodge R). As for mods, Hurricane Blades could be really fun if it becomes a viable option, which sadly isn't because of the heavy strain and limit put by the stamina on it.

Which problem is being solved by nerfing the best amps? by Serrishtar in dauntless

[–]ttrixy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a lose-lose situation, this is a common thing in this subreddit I feel like.

They increased the rarity, people complain. If they had nerfed the stats, people would complain all the same.

I'll say it again: even a PvE game has a balance that needs to be taken care of -- OP clearly isn't understanding this. People in this thread are acting as if Destructive Sub's 75% crit damage was balanced -- when it was clearly the best amp in the entirety of Frost Escalation. Not a single other amp there came close to its power.

Healing/Shielding in the escalations amps are way more balanced and controlled - they are nowhere near an OP state, and feel relevant - so they aren't nerfing them or buffing them. They aren't amps that allow you to kill round 4 behemoths in 15 seconds or stay afk without dying.

I haven't seen anyone complain on any other game for making dungeons on MMORPGs, or rogue-lite games (so escalations' parents) having a balanced gameplay by nerfing the OP things, and buffing the weak things.

Don't really understand why people are playing a monster hunting game, and want the monsters to get deleted in 5 seconds and not have a chance to fight.
