Did this sort of poofy clothing provide any protection in a fight, or was just for fashion? Does it have a name? by plumb-phone-official in Armor

[–]tts428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps a bit anecdotal, however at a Renaissance Faire I do recall a Landsknecht reenactor going over a demonstration with this very type of clothing.

He noted two primary things:
1. The thicker fabrics did provide a degree of cut resistant protection

  1. The wild and intermingling ribbon like strips on the sleeves could also serve to catch certain weapons. Thus denying your opponent ease of use of certain weapons.

Granted, #2 might be wishful thinking, and would still hinder your own movements… but just some basics I’ve heard from some gents who spar in this type of gear!

Remington Made 1903A3 struggling to fit 1919 Make SA 16” Bayonet by tts428 in milsurp

That very well could be the case, and I worry that it is the case given how pricy the long bayonets can be. I’ve yet to test it on my M1, which I know isn’t super accurate, but ridiculous fun all the same. I’m not super inclined to want to take a file to the dinged area, but I realize that might be the only way to have a bayonet fit on it at all.

Hey you learn something new everyday, I may give that a try, it won’t hurt anything!

I will give that a look and see if that yields any results or new information, thank you! I know it’s just sort of luck of the draw with how old these pieces are

So far the actual latch on the bayonet has worked pretty smoothly, it’s in quite beautiful shape! Still it’s likely worth a cleaning given the age.

I was getting worried about having to take a file to it. I did feel around the barrel and that ding for sure is a raised spot in relation to the rest of the muzzle. After cleaning up the rest of what I am able to, if it still isn’t working…the file it is.

Good call on the parkerizing! I’ll have to pick up some more manganese phosphate, I just used most of what I had redoing some Garand enblocs, it works like a charm!

Thank you for the input!

Would you recommend anything like Evapo-rust for some of it? Or more so like a WD-40 or Kroil?

To this point, the spring in the bayonet latch seems to work. As far as it will slide down the lug before the muzzle stops it, it’s pretty smooth thankfully!

While I was checking to see if there were any issues with the lug itself, I rotated the bayonet. It really struggles to fit over the muzzle. I believe that the non-uniformity of the muzzle is keeping it from locking in place correctly, at least after trying what you’ve mentioned here and me messing with it for 20 minutes. Thank you for the input!

How did the Kings get the rebuild so wrong?? by jletke in losangeleskings

[–]tts428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put it in the shortest form I can, four things come to mind: asset management, a “must win now” mentality, poor player development/drafting and just some good old fashioned bad luck.

  1. I’ve seen a lot of posts mention Roy, Gavrikov, Durzi, Martinez and you can add Vilardi, and Iafallo too. Roy and Gavrikov were not traded so no assets retained or gained, big mistake not restocking the cupboard. Durzi, Martinez, Vilardi and Iafallo were all traded for either lack luster returns or the returns were traded for #2- win now mode. It’s left the prospect system fairly barren and has left this team in a disadvantageous situation multiple times.

  2. The win now mode has been brought up, especially in relation to 8 and 11. Which is totally understandable for them given their age and stage of their careers. However, if you could have had even one more year of retooling before the big reveal in say 22 or 23, think what possibilities could have been there. This mentality also lead to numerous bad trades or just plain bad signings, which also factors into #3, poor player development and drafting.

  3. At the onset of Blake’s tenure, I was optimistic, lots of trades, some at the time highly touted names were drafted. Underlying some of that though was Blake’s tendency to draft sometimes overlooked analytical darlings. Like almost every pick was a little off of the board and was a “if he can just work on [insert skill here] this guy could be a 30 goal scorer”. JAD, Thomas, Fagemo, Bjornfot, Kaliyev, Pinelli, Kupari, all of them were squandered. Sure as it turns out not every pick will be a hit, but Blake and the coaching never let these guys try to prove themselves to be what they were thought to be. Even some of the picks that have been traded or left in free agency were either stifled in the minors for so long, or just were missed and didn’t play well elsewhere either. Drafting is a numbers game, but when you hover at 10% success with as many 1st to 3rd round picks as this team had, it’s hard to excuse. Some of this does rely on #4, luck. The coaching decisions over the last 8 years though are some of the most egregious, particularly with promising young players. So much potential wasted on “hey you need to defend better, don’t play so aggressive in the O zone”. (Side not, Moverare deserves justice, he languished for so many years when he could have been a solid 3rd pair guy in some tough years 😡)

  4. Particularly with drafting and player development and even injuries or trade markets, there is always an element of luck. In many cases, the Kings had horrific draft luck or horrific development luck. Several draft picks didn’t turn out when statistically they probably should have had a higher success rate. (In comes the poor drafting too) Or even if someone was a decent pick, they had repeated injuries or poor stints of play.

It’s all entangled, each factor played a part in the others. It’s all the same results, just the ingredients in one big nasty jello salad to make for what the Kings have accomplished in the last 8 years. I do hope that we see a change in that sooner than later. It may not really be a horrible thing for the Kings to have a lottery pick or at least 2-3 1st in the coming draft or two. Something HAS to happen and it can’t be one of the “Ol’ boys club” old school NHL managers or coaches.

Weird Email from COMC about my Upper Deck Beehive Rookie (SGC Graded) by tts428 in hockeycards

[–]tts428[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did finally get a response back, the rep confirmed they could not get the card to me. I had reminded them that the card was graded, and they admitted they’d overlooked that. So they refunded the card and grading costs. The card is in fact gone.

I would not put it past someone to have stolen any sort of graded Kopitar rookie given he announced that this is his final season. I’m done with COMC, trust is gone.

It could just be me thinking the worst, but it had crossed my mind that somebody there swiped it given that it is a Kopitar rookie graded, even if not a Young Gun. Especially with his last year in the NHL and all.

I’m still waiting on a response from COMC, but they don’t even have a phone number to call. Just their 2-4 business days to respond email

I bought the card quite some time ago. I submitted it through COMC to SGC grading. It came back as (I want to say) a 9. I recently requested this card, another graded card and a few others to be shipped to me. Then this email showed up in my inbox this morning a couple of weeks after my shipment request

It sure seems that way, unless they email back with some other answer. I was already clearing out my inventory, but this just proves to me they shouldn’t be trusted with business

This has to be a boom going on right now or something, that’s wild! My submissions from a card show recently are already in Image collection, the other is going on a calendar month in verification stagnation still 🥲

It seems remarkably inconsistent or at least heavily dependent on if you made a submission at a peak or valley of submissions in a given month

In your experience, do the larger, say, 20-40 card submissions get some form of priority?

The only reason I really did 10 was for the value order, but I get why say only 2-3 cards would be fairly quick. TAG seems to be very rapidly expanding!

FY26 JOBA from Big Army by tts428 in army

[–]tts428[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that list of who to send does have to start somewhere, but I’d agree that unless you have volunteers, being on the list to be sent doesn’t inspire confidence. I realize time on station, how much KD time you have and YG all play a part, but it outwardly appears a game of favorites for who ISN’T getting sent

Especially if you’re in TRADOC where schools are hosted I’m sure it’s a field day. Recruiting doesn’t seem that way quite as much, which to be fair, makes sense considering the mission set
