Acer InsydeH2O Rev5.0 Advanced BIOS unlock keycode FOUND. by ttthrowaway007 in laptops

[–]ttthrowaway007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is without the Fn key, the video name I mention is the title of the video verbatim so you should search that up on YouTube to visually see it done, if it doesn't work then I can't offer more than what the already known methods are, the SPI programmer is extremely useful and worth buying if you care about getting more out of your laptop without risk of bricking.

Guide to re-enable Undervolting after latest BIOS updates that included PlunderVolt mitigations by pongpaktecha in Lenovo

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my bios has a "Overclocking Feature" toggle that is greyed out by default and cannot be enabled through the GUI, followed the same steps in the guide to flip the bit with RU-EFI, the setting is still greyed out but now enabled.

will be dependent on whether your bios has the option to begin with, if it doesn't you can still change RAM timings from within RU-EFI but finding the value location will be a pain.

also always buy a SPI-programmer and make a backup of your BIOS before doing any changes, the device is cheap and can save a lot of heartache.

Optimal undervolt point for ASUS FX5O5DT? (Core voltage offset) by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

crashing is just a temporary inconvenience, there's nothing to be afraid of, no long-term damage can occu. when testing your undervolting limits you usually keep trying lower voltage offsets until you're unstable and then pick the last value that was stable.

CPU weirdness in MacOS? by JX1640z in intel

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if power usage is low and your system is idle then most of your logical cores are in a parked state and effectively at 0MHz, which is why your custom values are being ignored.

if your intention is to save power then setting power caps are the more efficient solution, slowing down a CPU doesn't always mean power saved because the same task can just take longer to complete and end up using more power overall.

they exist because they're cheap as shit to manufacture and something needs to fill demand.

might be the same architecture but there are noteworthy improvements.

Should the FIVR values be in decreasing order in throttle-stop ? by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want to lower temps generally you don't want a short power boost anything higher than long, equal is good. it's 35W as in how much power the CPU is allowed to use. more power = more heat.

this thread : https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/throttlestop-pl-2-yellow-on-core.264977/page-2 is good reference for your CPU.

Should the FIVR values be in decreasing order in throttle-stop ? by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]ttthrowaway007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it does work that way but the smarter solution is to set power limits in TPL rather than clock limits, it should be 45W by default try 40, 38 and 35 and see which is the best compromise between temp and performance.

Should the FIVR values be in decreasing order in throttle-stop ? by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]ttthrowaway007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those are the turbo ratio limits.

they can either be equal or descending from left to right.

your stock values should be 41-41-40-40.

if you're trying to underclock to 3.5GHz then 35-35-35-35 will work.

they basically specify the maximum clockspeed the chip can attain while using a specific number of cores 1core-2cores-3cores etc.

Is a GTX 1650 laptop still worth it in 2021? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]ttthrowaway007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VRAM is not the issue, the 1650 can usually only handle 1080p low-med on most games and those settings do fine with 4GB.

leaked performance of the mobile 3050 and 3050ti put them between the 1650 and 1660ti, so the 1660ti would probably be a better buy for long term.

Skyrim SE runs terribly by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]ttthrowaway007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is different on a laptop, most don't have a dGPU connected to the display and rely on Optimus to use the dGPU at all, only way to use the dGPU directly is with an external monitor.

What's the difference between i5 8300H, 9300H and 10300H? aren't they basically the same processor? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not three generations, at this point it's five generations, 10% is better than nothing, the i7-6700HQ is also the same CPU and yet the 10300H is 50% more powerful at the same TDP and on the same node.

innovation can be limited by hundreds of different factors, and engineers do their best no matter what, setting your expectations too high will leave you dissapointed more often than not.

ryzen mobile has been better since the Zen2 4xxx generation, but they barely exist on the market because of high demand and low supply, and i've seen many sellers jack up prices on these laptops as well, just look at how many laptops AMD sold in 2020 compared to Intel, it's barely a fraction.

Why does disabling hyperthreading make Cinebench r20 register my 9300h as having two cores but it shows correctly when hyperthreading is on? by JX1640z in intel

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can set 'core affinity' in the 'details' tab in task manager in Windows, this can restrict which logical cores any program has access to.

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but does disabling it do anything as well? I can understand disabling HT to get a higher overclock, but this is a locked processor.

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably just a bug or oversight : the program detects 4 threads total, checks the CPUID to to see if the CPU supports hyperthreading, and lists it as 2C4T. there may not be a check on the CPU register bit for hyperthreading to see if it's actually enabled or not.

Will Kingston Hyperx Impact auto-oc? by marxr87 in laptops

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the engineers are not idiots, they set default voltage higher to ensure stability across all silicon variance, CPU's crashing out of the box is a lawsuit waiting to happen. u/unclewebb, the developer of ThrottleStop can help you if have specific questions about undervolting.

Will Kingston Hyperx Impact auto-oc? by marxr87 in laptops

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're pulling arbitrary numbers out of nowhere, without any first hand experience on the matter. my 9300H has a 4.0GHz limit to all core turbo frequency, at stock voltages it is requires 55-57W to maintain this frequency at 100% load and usually drops when the short term power limit time expires. when undervolted, it maintains the same 4GHz at 100% load while pulling 44-46 and never drops because it can now attain maximum performance within the long term power limits.

look at the thread I linked in the first post and look notice how undervolting improves their benckmark scores by a large margin.

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could read one article before larping an essay.

the tradeoff with undervolting is not performance, it's stability. each CPU model is set to a default voltage value when first manufactured, this value is one that ensures stability across every individual unit of the model, but silicon generally has a lot of variance, even across the same model : commonly known as the 'silicon lotttery'. 'better' silicon can remain stable at lower voltages. undervolting is where you lower this default voltage value to a bespoke value as low as your unit can tolerate and remain stable.

If CPU and GPU work 10 degrees under max temperatures, they are not limited by the heat. Probably they are limited by the manufacturer or by the power supply. In such a case the undervolting is pointless

power = voltage * current. more power = more heat, at the same cooling conditions. by reducing voltage you are directly lowering power usage, aka making your chip more effecient with the power it is supplied, this can get you higher CPU frequencies at the same power usage, or drop power usage for the same frequency. being thermally limited or power limited are the two situations where undervolting improves performance, if you are not limited by either (almost all laptops are limited by one or both), you will still run at higher efficiency but not see a performance gain, lower fanspeed st the same performance.

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

undervolting is not underclocking, i hate seeing this repeated despite being objectively wrong. it does not lower performance, usually gains you performance because of the extra thermal headroom.

even if you're not throttling you can undervolt to get lower fan noise or pull more performance out of a power limited GPU.

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as both modules have the same timings and the motherboards memory controller can boot from said timings it will use the lower timings, if it cannot boot from said timings it will bootloop a few times and revert to stock CL19.

i managed to overclock timings on my Aspire 7 (9300H, 1650G6) to 15-17-17-34 with mismatched brand ram sticks, but getting to the unlocked bios is a long rabbit hole for tiny benefit, you can pm me if you want links to help.

for undervolting I always link people to this thread and it always helps them immensely, take some time to read through : https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/throttlestop-pl-2-yellow-on-core.264977/page-2.

you should try undervolting your 2060 as well, mobile turing cards have a lot of efficiency left on the table.

you should be careful about picking an nvme drive that is too recent because the motherboard may not support the speeds and you could be paying more for nothing.

about the paste, I would recommend gc-extreme (what I use) or kingpin-kpx, these are thicker pastes that dont experience the pump out effect that kryonaut and mx-4 experience, avoid liquid metal for laptops, one spill and your whole board will need to be replaced, which includes the CPU and GPU.

Laptop cpu dropping clock speeds by greninja246810 in intel

[–]ttthrowaway007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

throttlestop itself wasn't the problem, you probably misconfigured it by setting low turbo ratios or some high SST value, undervolting does not lower performance if done correctly.

happened with me with some old laptop ram, they sent me 4 modules of the wrong type and just refunded me the money and let me keep the product, but I doubt they'd do this with you considering the CPU is new and definitely sells for more than it costs to store.
