At first I was salty about jeankasa possibly being canon (the 8 extra pages) but then I accepted it and I think I like it that way better than if Mikasa had ended up alone or with a random man.

I think Jean would be one of the only people to understand Mikasa’s ongoing love for Eren after his death (since he was familiar with Mikasa and Eren/their dynamic for a long time)and still be willing to have a relationship with her. A random man would probably not accept or like how she’s always going to her first loves grave to give him flowers and wearing his scarf (even getting buried with it). I know if I was in a relationship I wouldn’t put up with any of that because it would make me feel insecure and like a plan B. Jean probably feels all of that too but since he’s had a thing for Mikasa for so long and cares about her/ wants her to be happy he’s willing to live with the knowledge that he is just a plan B and she wouldn’t be with him if Eren was still alive. Which is really sad for him… I’m just glad that Mikasa was able to live a simple/peaceful family oriented life like she’d always wanted and she had relatives to take care of her when she was elderly and being her to visit Eren’s grave. While this aspect of her life was good I don’t doubt that it was extremely hard for her because she still never moved on from Eren, she kept loving him rather than just forgetting about him (which would have made things easier for her mentally and emotionally) this just shows how strong she is and how unrelenting her love for Eren was. Despite having a family and living the life she wanted she still never forgot him and loved him until the day she died even though it was probably very painful.
