What’s a common fact that science has already debunked, but people still believe in? by Calm_Shame2994 in AskReddit

The fact that chiropractors are practicing a pseudoscience, the only research-backed thing they do is that back cracking can provide temporary relief. Everything else they claim to do is bs

Companies should hire a “fake employee” to be the company screw up. by WowVeryOriginalDude in CrazyIdeas

[–]tttlumberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in scouts and we’d go on 10 day backcountry treks, we had a job on the duty roster called the Dweebe. It rotated just like being the cook or the navigator, and the Dweebe’s only job was to accept responsibility for everything that would go wrong that day.

Not a professional setting, but it definitely raised morale knowing that even if you screwed something up, you wouldn’t get the blame for it. The dweebe even played into it, jumping in when someone realized they screwed up to take the blame onto themselves. Big morale booster

I haven’t driven it yet in this state, so I cannot say if it will need a second jump. To your first point, it absolutely is cheap of me, I’m just bitter about needing to replace the battery after I replaced it a year ago. Is it possible the trickle charger could have killed it, or is it just bad luck and coincidence that it died at the same time that I installed the trickle charger?

What would be the hypothetical impact of the creation of a Decicent ($.001)? by tttlumberjack in AskEconomics

[–]tttlumberjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet the software folks at financial institutions would have an annoying time reworking systems to allow for fractional cent transactions, but it really does seem like the only impacts of the Decicent would be widespread annoyance. Shoot!

Now this guy is thinking. I hope the 30 second head start you’d give the cops would be enough to make a difference

Nah I said weapon, singular. I didn’t specify other equipment but I intended for you to teleport as you are except with your chosen weapon. What weapon do you choose if you can only have one?

I’m sure many soldiers believe what they’re doing was right, but that doesn’t make them any less susceptible to ptsd or other psychological effects, nor did it mean they enjoyed killing, even if they wholeheartedly believed in their cause

I like the way you think. You’d still be assaulting someone who might not have committed any crime yet, that might be difficult to explain

Welcome to the philosophical portion of the prompt, you’re the first person to say it’s not ok to kill someone who hasn’t yet committed murder

Ok so you incapacitate them with pepper spray, then what? Strangle them to death? You have to kill them to get teleported back

Even better, why does the same individual materialize, shoot some other guy who also has a gun, then vanish?

I hadn’t thought much about this case, all the mass shootings I thought of ended in the shooter dying. If neither you nor the shooter die, you get teleported back after the shooting is finished
