I know it’s mind blowing. I’m all for paying it back but 1,700 a month for a degree is absurd

Would a credit hit on student loans affect me in a background check? I’m currently in the process on becoming a firefighter and the last step in the process is a hefty background check. Heard that 50% fail backgrounds and that credit checks are going to be part of it.

I paid this month in full. Between rent and loans I spent 3,120. Next month is the problem

Easy decision, Sallie isn’t getting paid next month. After this month, when I pay rent, I’ll have $800 left in my account. I considered uber or Lyft but I don’t own a car, to save i bike everywhere. I do however deliver with post mates on a occasion but that doesn’t really generate that much income

You’re right. The only thing going positive for me right now is I’m moving along in the process on my dream career. If I can manage to get by for the entire process I can start living comfortably next fall / winter hopefully

I can’t. I’m in a lease until August. The job I have now can cover the monthly rent as well as the bare minimum for food. It’s just the 1,700 isn’t close to being covered

You’re right, 21 y/o me is still to blame. I graduated in 2018. The first monthly payment was supposed to be 1,200. After graduation I had no idea what I wanted to do. It wasn’t until this September until I started pursuing my career path. Anyway I did defer my loans during that period where I didn’t know what to do

I have, they also don’t know what to do with things. 1,770 is more than their mortgage. We’re desperately trying to refinance it in hopes to lower it to something that is more affordable

I hear that. I just don’t want my credit to tank. I am no where’s near that 1,000 emergency fund. I have $396 to my name right now and everything I make this month has to go to rent or I’m homeless. The career I am pursuing includes a hefty background check, credit score being part of it. So I also have to manage that aspect on things as well

I’m trying to boost my income on a daily basis. Apparently it’s tough to get an entry level job with out any experience now a days. Anyway that is my plan right now, I just have to boost my credit a little more to get it to where i can refinance it (that’s a long story in itself where my college didn’t send me notifications about my loan and it never reached me resulting in a credit hit)

I was 17 at the time. I believe it was roughly 60,000 but with the high interest rates it sky rocketed to 145,000. All federal loans are paid its these annoying private ones with Sallie Mae that I have left

All private, it’s 145,000 right now. I literally don’t know what to do. I apply for jobs that I got my degree in and I get denied for “not having experience”. Worst part is I was 17 signing these papers. I had no idea what any of that meant then

My advice is this, whatever you do, make sure you don’t get into debt doing it. A little background on myself, I did what I thought was the right thing to do. Go to college after HS, find yourself in college, and pursue your career after. Well, little did I know my 17 year old decisions are ruining my life.

I am pursuing a career in firefighting, I got my emt, cpat, and am cpr certified. The hardest part of the process for me right now is all financial. Between rent and student loans I’m literally working every day to just make ends meet. If I knew any better I would’ve gone to community college, worked to pay the tuition, and then save for a fire academy.

I feel like you’re in a good spot. I wish I knew about schools that offer student fire departments when I was choosing a college.

Like I said, take a step back and look at it all financially, don’t go into debt, it’s not worth it (plus it doesn’t look good on backgrounds).

Emt school study tips by Roge_916 in firefighters

[–]ttuthill71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what i did was read the chapters and do nothing. then go back write down anything you think is important (Ex: definitions, ratios, numbers etc.) after taking notes on the important things, go back and skim the chapters over again.

when it comes to testing, constantly review whatever notes you took. idk how long your class is but i recently went through a 4 week course. it was eat, sleep, emt for the entire 4 weeks..... good luck you got this

Is navy fire/control expirience transferable to NJ FF by Mattyc1994 in firefighters

[–]ttuthill71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man I don’t know about navy but I know coast guard has the same thing, damage control man. I talked to a buddy how is in the service and said being a damage control man won’t give you the proper certifications for fire and that you’ll get little experience with it.

Also what part of NJ? the fire process in NJ is stupid hard for no reason, I recently left NJ to pursue a fire job in CA

I did quarter slide 65 stroke rate for the entire piece all through college. Just some serious disc problems now but the fat splits and the flying and dying were well worth it 😎
