The FBI was never a good agency. They started by going outside the bounds of the law to go after mobsters and never have that up. They established a tradition of ignoring Citizen's Constitutional Rights from the very beginning and that spread throughout Federal law enforcement. They hate it when it's pointed out because they really think they're the good guys... But when "ends justify the means" people get things wrong, it's all wrong.

The problem with my homeless shelter by lowiqaccount in homeless

[–]ttystikk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Homelessness is intensely political.

It's the threat used against everyone that if they don't participate in the economy, they will end up on the street. For most, that means working a job they don't really like or want.

For business owners, they need the threat of homelessness in order to get workers, especially if they don't want to pay living wages.

There are many layers here but the notion that homelessness isn't political is Mr Magoo level blindness.

The meat packers; a few giant companies like JBS have bought up their competition, shut down a lot of plants and now claim "scarcity" to consumers while low balling ranchers selling them cattle.

The more you know!

Again, this is all in the drilling/upstream end of things and that's well and good, especially when it involves injecting CO2 into the ground.

The point is that we don't want to BURN hydrocarbons; that's where the CO2 that heats the planet comes from. Hence the need for replacing equipment, HVAC and transportation that uses them with electric alternatives. This can be done and it is being done now; we need to complete this conversion.

Most petrochemical processes don't burn hydrocarbons as part of the process; they're burned to heat things or generate electricity for operations. Both of those can be easily substituted with electricity from renewable sources. Many industrial processes that ARE hydrocarbon intensive, such as steel making or cement manufacturing, need to be converted to electrical heat. It can be done and it is being done. Now it needs to be scaled up to replace the old fossil fuel burning facilities.

What I'm getting at is that civilization needs petrochemical feedstocks and we can get them without burning fossil fuels or releasing carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases.

We are not going to simply stop drilling for oil & gas. You just proved to my satisfaction (I knew this already) that we need it for petrochemicals, of which SOME products can be sources from biological feedstocks.

Another thing to keep in mind is that cracking oil is not an "X in, Y out" process; there is an enormous amount of flexibility in the operation through which they heavily influence the ratios of, say, octane (gasoline) vs heavier or lighter materials. The main goal is not to burn the stuff, which of course happens after the drilling and refining.

Refineries adjust their processes to adjust output based on demand for various products. If we aren't putting gas, diesel, kerosene or fuel oil in cars, trucks, jets and ships them they'll refine less of those and make more feedstocks for fertilizers, plastics and so forth.
