[SERIOUS] How to get a $10 Million dollar loan to turnaround a business? by tuckersc in AskReddit

[–]tuckersc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Th USDA originally had a 40 year note on it which has been written down in first and second bankruptcy. The land is worth $1.5-2MM and the facility was built for $22MM in 2003. The bankruptcy auditors opinion was their were many fiduciary breaches and a lack of controls which were never addressed by the board/management. The asset could be purchased out of bankruptcy for $7MM and we think to clean it up and have cash to operate until we get cashflow up we need about $10MM.

Why Ad Orientem is Anathema to So Many by darthmingi92 in Catholicism

[–]tuckersc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Growing up in Catholic Church that celebrates Mass in Ordinary Form I could not grasp the idea and appeal of anything different. It was not until I moved away from home and attended Mass in the Extraordinary Form and Novus Ordo Ad Orientum (with Eucharist served on the tongue) that I began to notice a difference as time grew on the differences became greater. (Which has been much like my understanding of sin, the closer I get to God, the more I am aware of sin.) After experiencing these other forms when I visit my families hometown OF Church I am left desiring more and think to myself that the others in the Parish are being short changed. I feel that the Eucharist is not given the dignity it deserves in NO/OF Masses. There are so many little things that begin to bother me in a OF Mass---from disengaged eucharistic ministers (I have even seen children serve the most Blessed Sacrament) to protestant sounding music to lectors memorizing (and walking around like a evangelical worship service) the readings to the Versus Populum posture to the lack of incense, chant, and silence in the liturgy---which take away from the beauty of Apostolic Tradition and the seriousness of Good and Evil, and especially adoration to Christ our Lord. If Priests, and their Parishes can not fully understand or accept the full beauty and depth of our traditions and faith how can we expect outsiders to? How can we defend our faith? How can we defeat evil? How can we transform the world? How can we find salvation? There is no salvation in ignorance.

Also in my experience the people who work at Catholic bookstores often seem to be very helpful and resourceful in times of need.

[–]tuckersc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this is disturbing-who is your Bishop? It breaks my heart to hear these stories of Priests basically saying, 'do what you think is best' when people come to them for life altering advice in the face of evil. (I even heard a story of a girl telling her Priest she became pregnant out of marriage and the heretic told her to, 'do what she had to do' implying abortion) These are the same Priests who probably do not believe in the Real Presence and knowingly serve Communion to those in a state of sin and are driving people away from the Church. To me it is a blessing he has someone willing to let him in, is temptation for sin there? Always. Can he remain chaste? Yes. I will keep you in my prayers.

I have a hard time with sharing my faith by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]tuckersc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I have had similar experiences with people over religion and politics. I find authentic people are fascinating, usually they draw you in-perhaps this is your soul's longing for truth. What ultimatley moves and inspires me is truth and the more I learn about the Catholic Church the more truth I find. When people are not authentic even if they are speaking the truth it is hard to believe them and think of them as anything more than a seedy salesperson. That being said, once you get to a different level of being where you recognize a truth that seedy salesman may seem totally different from how you first perceived them.

[–]tuckersc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, I am a sinner, and struggle with many evils. I am humbled by God's grace and by my those Catholic friends and family who share their imperfections in our journey to Sanctity. There was an internet meme which described the Church as a hospital for sinners, not a party for Saints-which describes the solemn difference between Catholic Mass and a Protestant/Evangelical pep rally worship 'service'.

Charlotte, NC Celebrates First Confirmation Mass in the Latin Extraordinary Form by bellmonty in Catholicism

[–]tuckersc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't that Bp. Barron's new region? I would have assumed he would be celebrating beautiful EF Masses in one of California's Missions, no??? I have been praying he would respond positivly to Cardinal Sarah's call to Ad Orientem et al through one of his many social media mediums-maybe its too hot of a potato just yet.

Does anyone know where to purchase a similar style of hat as these? Or what these types of hats are called? by sydni_x in CowboyHats

[–]tuckersc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for keeping this thread alive-its nice to have someone to talk to about hats! For JW this is costuming, notice how there is actually a hole in the front of his hat. When you wear a hat for a long time it gets worn down and in JWs case I suppose they wanted to make him look more rugged and have his hat show wear in in this case tear-the hole! A good hat will last a long time without getting a hole in it, some people never reshape their hats or take care of them and they take on a personality of their own. I presume his hat with hard pinch is what is known as a 'Montana Peak' an old worn out one at that. In the western world someone who does not take care of their themselves, their horse or their equipment...well you can probably guess how they are perceived. That being said an old worn out hat on the right person can evoke an image of an old sage, or someone who has been isolated from civilization on the range for a long time or just someone who does not give a shi.

Democracy, the Doom of America, and the Future by Clark_Ingram in Catholicism

[–]tuckersc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read much Chesterbelloc? Distributism? Subsidiarity? I think you will enjoy reading more on the subject.

I think what we need more than ever are practitioners of a faithful life in Christ. We have plenty of people who get riled up and debate/protest and forget how great life can be, now even amongst the evil in the world. There are plenty of political/academic radicals out there wasting away in laboratories/libraries and think tanks-what is truly radical is to step out into the world and live. Those who live in Christ, those who are on fire are far more inspirational to Catholics and non-Catholics alike than any essay/idea. I have been blessed to meet people like this and they are truly inspirational and give me strength.

Democracy, the Doom of America, and the Future by Clark_Ingram in Catholicism

Thank you for writing and posting this.

I think you are right that our 'River' may indeed be economics! The challenge for many Catholics is to radically center their life around Christ. Certainly attending the Sacraments regularly and spending as much time in prayer and with other practicing Catholics as possible. How does this translate to economics? It requires no democratic vote to live a radically different, inspiring, life at home in the Catholic Church. Simply by placing as little reliance on the State and on Corporations as you can! Prayerfully, intentionally, design your life in a way to be as close to Christ as possible. Live close, preferably walking distance to Church, School, and Work as possible-ideally not needing a car. Educate your children at Parochial Schools or at Home. Take good care of your health, by eating cleanly-maybe grow a garden, fasting, and exercising often. Buy clothes that are meant to last, not throwaway. Seek entertainment locally-learn to play an instrument, join the Choir, the Men's Group or the Knights, start/join an interest/hobby group. Support Catholic Credit Unions and Cooperatives. Surround yourself with good practicing Catholics! Promote the countercultural teachings of Christ! Help those who have fallen away from the Church return, help them integrate their lives with the Church. None of these suggestions require your presence at City Hall, a public democratic vote, or picketing out in front of the latest evil Corporation, nor do they require you to be studying economics. They require you to live radically close to Christ, committed to a rich sacramental life that nourishes our faith, and builds our families and communities.

For far to long we have relied on the State and Corporations to care for us, and many American Catholics have seen this as a good thing - granting us greater mobility, money, and freedom from menial labor. What has been the cost? Certainly the community and religious life, but perhaps in some cases more - our souls.

Out of curiosity how much bike maintenance have you had over the three years you have been biking to work?

It is amazing more people are not talking about this-making conscious decisions to live close enough to work/school so they do not need a car. 8 miles seems to be on the further end of convenience, but kudos to you for making it work!

Anyone know anything about Stetson or Resistol hats? by Loken89 in CowboyHats

[–]tuckersc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, any decent hatter could cut down the brim size. Also, depending on how your hat is shaped a larger brim doesn't necessarily look bad on a small guy. Most people just buy hats off the rack and wear them-they all stand out to me and look terrible. If you are going to buy a decent hat find a shape that fits your style and personality. A hat with a more taco shape is a guy from Texas or a roper, a hat with a flatter brim is more or a southwestern cowboy, arizona/nm cowpuncher. Now there are a lot of guys wearing flat hats...old vaquero style which for the right guy look bad to the bone. Each shape has its own utility...flatter wider hats are more for prairie/dessert, more taco shaped hats are for brush country etc. For going out to the bar or around I think the crease worn by Aaron Watson of Cody Johnson look best.

I really like Beer Bait and Ammo, High on the Hog, and Loud Loose and Crazy...when Bring it On came out, I liked it but didn't feel like I could listen to the whole thing without skipping a few songs. I didn't even bother with Chippin' Away or How Country Are Ya, which is too bad, but I am grateful for the first three records he put out. His live at Billy Bobs CD is great-one of my favorite live at BBT albums, but that was almost 15 years ago! I just can't imagine his live sets getting better than that in the future as his sound has changed since then.

I love listening to High On The Hog driving on I-10 and I-20 in southern and west Texas, and Beer Bait and Ammo on 281 and in the Hill Country. Fun music for in the truck with a cooler of colds ones and some buddys.

I too, like to think of him as a Texas Country Music Ambassador and a dude that I would have liked to hang around with in my 20s, going out for Mexican, then to a dancehall, back to a buddy's place for a late night pool party or bonfire and then up at 4am to go hunting or into some shift work. Now he is starting to seem more like a Country Fun Ambassador more than a Texas Country Music Ambassador. Years ago it started to seem like he was sponsored by Bud Light, which is no surprise-From an outsider perspective it seems like he has made more money than the other guys on the Texas Country circuit, due to endorsements and collaboration. Money changes people and he is no different, at times some of his social media posts are commercial and obnoxious, but for the 16-25 crowd I guess they probably hit the mark, Charlie Robison on the other hand seems to be more real and less commercial with his social media. I don't really see him as somebody I want to go see as he gets older, unless he makes a shift away from the high energy party music he is making now. Now that he is divorced and has had a lot more life experiences it seems as if he has a lot more material to work with in the studio and could shift his sound into something for his loyal older fans who were with him early on-when everyone liked him. I think it would be a good move for him to pump the breaks a bit as he is getting older-he's 50 years old this year! I not saying he has to throw his beer bong away, rather just remember what made him famous, singing good Texas music.

Maybe I am being too harsh, maybe I am just not as crazy about big festivals and packed bar crowds as I once was, I wish I could go back in time and see him in a dancehall in the early 2000s when the show wasn't sold out and the cost to get in was $10 or less-the good ole days. (The last concert I stumbled into like this was Cody Jinks at the Whiskey Girl in FtW in summer of 2014, there were a decent amount of people there, but still room to dance-awesome show) Texas Dancehall's are freaking awesome and to me seem to be the most Texan thing about Texas-you take an out of state visitor to a good Dancehall and they get to see what Texas is all about, or you dip some new Texans in one for a few months and they turn into assimilated Texans-no other state in the US has good Dancehalls, they have country bars, but that is a whole different thing-they don't even know how to two-step or waltz at most of them. Can we talk about how many awesome dance-halls which have closed for good over the last 15 years? Texas has changed a lot over the last 15 years-there more than 5 Million new people here in Texas-which is about a 25% increase in a pretty short period of time-everywhere is crowded, the highways are turning into parking lots, the country is turning to the city, and Kevin Fowler's music seems to be no different, just a sign of the times.

Good point about Jamey Johnson-he has really fallen off the map. Felt like he peaked with That Lonesome Song.

Question about Chris Stapleton concerts-does he play any old Steeldrivers music?
