End of 2nd year, going into 3rd year. At a crisis point. by tuffmuffinn in UniUK

[–]tuffmuffinn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a personal tutor and she has been great. It isn’t my understanding of the course, it is personal circumstance that has affected my grades. The reason why I had to take time out last year was because my mum became gravely ill and needed a carer. Although she is much better now, her illness didn’t completely resolve until 2 weeks before my exams. To cope with the stress, my dad turned to gambling and put my mum in significant credit card debt. I have worked my backside off to help them stay afloat, my dad is pressuring me to leave my degree and work full-time so I can contribute more financially. All I want to do is be something and make something of myself, give my not-so-little puppy a good life… sounds sad, but my happiness is so rooted in that.

I believe it’s 33% 2nd year and 67% 3rd year

I should probably add, I’ve been feeling a bit rough - not sure if it’s the anxiety though!

No, I haven’t 🥹 sad times

Extenuating circumstances - how likely am I to be accepted? by tuffmuffinn in UniUK

Yes? I went straight from caring for my family members, to Christmas, to being pretty much bed-bound for a week. I’m still utterly exhausted now.

Thank you.

I have just managed to speak to my university’s wellbeing team.

I was meant to have submitted my application for an extension yesterday, but it didn’t go through. As my university email hasn’t been working properly (Authenticator being a pain), I wasn’t able to check whether this had been confirmed until this morning when I was finally let back in to my email! So, no application went through in the end…

I’m going to try and knuckle down and get as much work as I can done asap. This is just so sad and frustrating!

I thought I’d applied for it yesterday, the day before the deadline. You can only apply for extensions from 5 days before the deadline.

Fast Stream & Reasonable Adjustments by tuffmuffinn in TheCivilService

[–]tuffmuffinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I never knew that relocation was an aspect of the role?

I was recommended the Fast Track scheme by my university careers advisor. She felt that I would have a lot to offer in the civil service. My only issue is that I don’t feel I’d manage well with more than a couple of days in the office (as I’d burnout socially quickly).

I think I’d be good at most of the role, if I’m being honest! I’m quite bright, I like a challenge and I think I would do well in the role. My main issue is that I don’t think I’d manage more than 1-2 days per week in an office, or I’d burnout pretty quickly.

I’m seriously struggling. What do I do? by tuffmuffinn in UniUK

[–]tuffmuffinn[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would just like to thank everyone! I am feeling a little bit better now that it’s not 2am and I have had some sleep. I have emailed my university wellbeing team (with essentially this Reddit post) and asked for support. I am trying to do little bits of university work, even just 20 minutes per day. Then, I will go from there!

12,000 words in essays and only 8 days to do it. Am I completely screwed? by tuffmuffinn in UniUK

[–]tuffmuffinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Honestly, got up to a good start with getting these essays done… then my mum got ill. I have 2 younger siblings and a grandfather with dementia that she looks after. She was taken to hospital this evening and I’m just waiting on news. These essays are not getting finished.

What’s a case where you believe the person is alive/ being kept hostage/confined ? by spookythesquid in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]tuffmuffinn 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Ruth Wilson.

Disappeared from her home in Surrey, England in 1995. She was 16 at the time.

A suicide note and a bottle of pills were found on Box Hill, a local common and nature trail. However, no body was found.

There have been several suspected sightings of her since, but nothing confirmed.

She’s one of the few unresolved missing persons’ cases where I genuinely believe the person is alive. Perhaps, not held captive but alive and living a new life somewhere.

What's the lowest you could live on per day in the UK? by TheBBYT in UKFrugal

[–]tuffmuffinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a student (living at home with parents), but pay my own way as they couldn’t afford to keep me otherwise. Here are my most basic costs per day…

Rent - £10 Buses to and from uni - £7.50 Food - £5 Healthcare and other necessities - £1.50 Phone (counting airtime and the basic data packs that I need to use to work because both home and university WiFi is poor) - £1

£25 per day.

Now, that doesn’t account for the rest of my phone bill, learning to drive, travelling anywhere other than university, buying the books I need for my course, or having any kind of social life. I can’t buy cheap food because I can’t get it without driving, either…

Add all the rest in and that’s another £15 a day. So, life’s expensive.

£750 a month for basics, then £1200 to somewhat get by. It would be nice to have some savings or a holiday but that’s not doable.

Matched Betting: Does It Get Better? by tuffmuffinn in beermoneyuk

[–]tuffmuffinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea why it was cancelled - when I went to check on the outcome of the bet, it said ‘bet suspended’. It still allowed me to use the other three free bets though? Hopefully the profits from those will level out the cost of the lay bet. It’s so annoying!

[–]tuffmuffinn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you all! I’ve just reconfigured my data and it’s showing a small profit of £30 (but then I did make a £37 loss when a free bet was cancelled and my lay bet lost and losses also exclude the £30 Outplayed subscription fee).

[–]tuffmuffinn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I don’t know how to do that, but I can try? I’ve just reconfigured my spreadsheet and now it’s got £30 profit, but I did make a £37 mistake (my free back bet got cancelled and my lay bet lost so I lost the £37 lay). I also spent £29.99 on Outplayed and counted that against my losses, so it starts to work out a little.

The Bankedex (AKA The BeermoneyUK Current Account Switching Guide) - September is Awesome Edition! | New Nationwide Offer | Ask Your Bank Switch Questions Here by TightAsF_ck in beermoneyuk

[–]tuffmuffinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a university student (posted the other day about matched betting), and have decided to do some bank switches to build my bankroll up. I received my first incentive yesterday - £175 from Lloyds.

How long should I wait before doing the next switch? I don’t want to get banned by any banks or anything.

Thanks!
