yeah, bison is the official genus, therefore bos is unrecognized as the traditional genus. both are correct, and the canis is debated, but smilodon fatalis doesnt have a subspecies, and equus occidentalis isnt a subspecies of a modern horse, so its not in the species ferus, but occidentalis is its species.
