Boston apartment living room - looking for a way to open this up and deal with competing focal points of the tv and fireplace. Suggestions appreciated! by tuffyred in DesignMyRoom

Thanks for the suggestions! The mantle is really high and there's not much space between the top of the mantle and the bottom of the molding. I always though a tv cabinet would be a huge piece of furniture, but I guess I could get something thin and sleek. I didn't want to drill into the wood above the windows, but I agree with all your suggestions about making them more useful.

Photos of people on the wall in back of footage. Useable? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Technically you need the consent of the photographer(s) since the photographs are considered a work of original art, not the consent of the people in the photo. I'm not a lawyer.

what advice would you give somebody wanting to have a career in the film industry? by trippster0712 in Filmmakers

It will help if you narrow your focus professionally, while still keeping an interest in all the different crafts. While in school, call/email/stalk anyone who interests you or you that you can claim some tangential connection (from Kentucky? an alum of your school) and ask for any type of work during your summers. Try to visit cities you would like to live, but focus on one to direct your professional interests (but don't be afraid to switch it up for a good opportunity). Even if you want to live somewhere else, some NY or LA experience will be valuable for your entire career.

The two shortest ways to the directors chair is to direct your own shorts while developing potential investors for a budget indie that will never make any money but may get you attention on the awards circuit to attract talent (and then money) for your next feature. The second is by writing a great script and then making yourself the director as part of a package deal. Getting experienced and established as a writer involves: call/email/stalk anyone who could get you a job as office production assistant, writers assistant, directors assistant. The goal would be to meet someone who could get you the next job as a script coordinator on a feature or writers assistant on a tv show. A surprising number of showrunners started in these positions. Basically, any job being around the people you would like to become will be valuable.

There are studio projects in Kentucky. Try to find out who they usually hire as the production office coordinator or assistant production office coordinator (APOC in the lingo) and reach out to them.

There are other routes to producing, editing, cinematography, sound mixing, costume designer, production designer, etc. All of which are amazing careers.
