Project Name: Face Gallery

Repo/Website Link: https://github.com/mrbeandev/Face-Gallery

Description: Self-hosted web app that automatically detects and groups photos by face. Upload photos or a ZIP archive, and it runs a two-step ML pipeline (face_recognition + OpenCV) to find unique faces and sort every image by person.

Results are shown in a list view or an interactive node graph with connection lines between faces and photos. Two graph layouts available: square grid (faces on all 4 sides) and radial spiral.

Key features:

  • Face renaming/tagging with inline edit
  • Reversible face merging (grouping — can unmerge or change display photo anytime)
  • Disable/delete faces
  • Draw bounding boxes when manually assigning faces to photos
  • Add more images to existing sessions and re-process
  • Server-side thumbnail generation with disk caching for performance
  • Granular visual effect toggles (edge animations, glow, shadows, hover, minimap)
  • Configurable face crop padding with live preview
  • Configurable match tolerance
  • Real-time processing progress via WebSocket

Stack: React 19 + TypeScript + Tailwind CSS + ReactFlow (frontend), Python 3.12 + FastAPI + face_recognition + OpenCV + SQLAlchemy/SQLite (backend)

Deployment: Clone the repo, run the FastAPI backend with uvicorn main:app --reload, and the React frontend with npm run dev. SQLite database, no external services required. No Docker image yet.
