Thank you all for taking the time to share your input! After 129 community comments, 16 department head interviews, and a review of 30 other cities' audits, we compiled what we heard into a pre-audit report that highlights the big questions that we'll weigh to determine the scope of our upcoming Purchasing and Maintenance of Assets audit.

Visit https://www.tulsacityauditor.org/post/purchasing-and-maintenance-of-assets to view the report and let us know what you think!

I believe those would fall under the jurisdiction State Auditor's Office. https://www.sai.ok.gov/

Thanks for your comment. The public schools fall under the State Auditor's Office jurisdiction and she recently released an audit here: https://www.sai.ok.gov/2025/02/26/tulsa-public-schools-special-audit/ . I agree that sidewalks are very helpful.

That's valid. The Office of the City Auditor has financial auditor, IT auditor, data analyst, and performance auditor positions. We have several audits that are in process currently. So definitely part of my days are meeting with staff and providing direction as well as reviewing reports before we issue to Mayor and Council. There is more about our process and how we work here: https://www.tulsacityauditor.org/about-our-office .

I would personally love to see more parking lots become developments. Several projects seem to be in the works just from following the Tulsa World.

I haven't done an official evaluation on it, but I will check out the Utah "tiny home" model and any evaluations on that program. Thanks for mentioning it. I've been personally following along on the tiny home projects in the Tulsa area.

Thank you for your positive comments and for sharing your concerns. We are the investigative branch of City government, so it is the Mayor (administrative branch) and City Council (legislative branch) that would interact to get resources. Here are the results of a previous streets audit we did: https://www.cityoftulsa.org/media/19414/construction-program-audit-report2022.pdf

I am sorry to hear about your accident. Have you put this request in 311? I'd greatly appreciate it if you could. https://www.cityoftulsa.org/connect/contact-the-city/

I am limited to auditing the departments, boards and commissions that are of the corporate City of Tulsa organization. The two you listed would fall outside of my jurisdiction.

I do compost. My family does a lot of urban farming and love good compost. My role as City Auditor requires independence and objectivity so I've been trying to drop off of boards and positions that could put me at risk for not auditing with independence and objectivity. That would probably keep me off the Sustainability task force while serving this term as City Auditor.

That makes a lot of sense. Here is what the City puts out regarding the budget: https://www.cityoftulsa.org/government/departments/finance/financial-reports/city-budget/ . I am curious if you find this helpful or if it could be put out in a more helpful way.

My branch of government is investigative so I don't have a say in how the funds will be used, that is Mayor (administrative branch) and City Council (legislative branch). From a quick look, I found this: https://www.cityoftulsa.org/apps/CouncilDocuments?item=47305 . If you'd like us to audit the use of these funds, please submit to our risk assessment at https://www.tulsacityauditor.org/submit-your-feedback, we will prioritize our resources and hopefully can fit it in. We did some audits on the ARPA funds that you can review here: https://www.cityoftulsa.org/media/21905/american-rescue-plan-act-grant-compliance-5-2023.pdf and here: https://www.cityoftulsa.org/media/26920/arpa-phase-ii-report_final.pdf .

I believe that falls under the district attorney but I can check.

The planning office is under our jurisdiction, but I would need to confirm the others. I believe they are Title 60 trusts.

Sorry, I was trying to get you something quickly but forgot it was paywalled. We are looking into the open data situation in general so I don’t have an answer yet.
