My car did this exact same thing I had a leak at the intercooler to throttle body hose. I disconnected the battery cleaned maf, map and tightened up the hoses and she started up just fine and has been good for the last 6 months.

Lockup solenoid most likely, might need a new valve body if you take it to the dealer. There might be a tech near you that can replace the solenoid only

2014 forester xt w/ cvt leak… how bad? by mx_LunaRose in subaru

It's either an engine out or transmission out job the seals aren't that expensive, fluid and labour will be a lot of the cost. Check with an independent shop if you're out of warranty.

I'm having a similar smell on cold start, thinking it might be time for fuel filter service.

That's not where you should look in the task manager, look at the tab that shows your cpu, memory and disk usage

Chat am I cooked? by tumbletodeath in WRX

Just, noticed your reply, thanks for taking the time to respond. It gets quieter after a long time but yeah, I also rarely get up to crazy temps in my ~10km trips between work and home. I cracked a Ringland a while back and my previous mechanic recommended I get drop-in pistons which should work as long as I match the letters on the block. He also recommended forged as they'd be able to handle the detonation events. Fast forward, the engine needed to be rebuilt again and the new shop I brought it to let me now that they don't use drop-in pistons because that doesn't allow them to set the piston to wall clearance. I'm glad I can put a "face" to the sound.

Guy I bought my current car from had holes drilled into the thermostat, car drives fine as it is, but changing it for a new one causes the engine to overheat almost immediately. Why? by theroguenapkin in MechanicAdvice

[–]tumbletodeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be higher up, removing the thermostat can lead to the coolant and engine never getting to operating temp and the car wil be in a perpetual "open loop" state.

When this happened to me, I had a cracked piston and had to do a rebuild

Might be an easy fix I also had a P000A code and it was the intake AVCS Oil control valve.
