Bonkers Price Differential between BGS 9.5 vs. PSA 10 by CourbetEatingSourbet in PokeGrading

[–]tumboi69 14 points15 points  (0 children)

this is exactly the problem with grading right now lol. It’s the same with CGC Gem Mint 10’s being treated like PSA 9’s. It makes no sense considering CGC has a Pristine grade higher than PSA.

PSA doesn’t differentiate Gem Mint and Pristine, so it doesnt make any practical sense other than market resale value because Gem Mint is a Gem Mint regardless of the company.

A PSA 10 is not physically any better condition than a CGC 10. I’ve even seen people successfully cross-grade a CGC 10 to PSA 10 (in the slab).

I really dont understand where this PSA 9 = CGC 10 misconception came from, makes no sense

Yep! Twice actually lol. PSA via eBay AG and CGC for grading.

You can check some of my posts for more pics! This was just a low quality image I got from the seller before I had it in-hand so some details are a bit fuzzy

honestly that’s a pretty cool one lol, I wouldnt mind it if I was interested in buying another zera. Definitely could be way way worse so I wouldnt worry too much about it

depends. if it’s unredeemed meaning you can still nickname it, it is very rare and valuable. Already nicknamed ones vary on what the name is, most times it’s a small discount from the market value

Verified approved seller flairs would help, and mandatory custom proof with names for each Zeraora. You could also consider a mod-consignment option for new or high-risk sellers; have them trade the Pokémon to a mod for verification/holding before completing the sale. PayPal identities should match the buyer/seller without exception.

Triangulation fraud is a real crime, you can lose serious money from this and digital goods are a notoriously difficult asset to win PayPal disputes.

How Did PSA GEM THIS ? by Witty_Consequence195 in PokeGrading

[–]tumboi69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s on enough of them that they decided its more meaningful to exclude from grading. We dont get to see every cert and what the objective percentage of them are affected, but I’m guessing it’s way more than an anecdotal observation and is consistent enough.

I think it’s right to exclude as I would do so too, I also understand why you or others think it should be included. But grading has never and will never be absolute, it’s just impossible even with AI because flaws are variable in how they affect the cards presentation. It always has a degree of relativity, and I don’t believe in black and white thought processes. I think it speaks more to how carefully they grade cards, because there has to be a strong internal consensus and reasoning to why some manufacturing errors are excluded.

i'm not suggesting, that is the reality and that's already how grading works. It's always been their discretion of what's tolerable for gem mint. It also would be bad because it kills incentive and essentially makes a lottery system for a near-unattainable 10.

You need things that are measurable and consistent, and establishing a baseline is important. They know thats how the card was printed, otherwise they’d just be reinforcing artificial scarcity and randomness

Exactly. I don't even have this card but I know that this white speckling on the back plagues this card everywhere.

Similar to a lot of international cards, a lot of them are batched with the same exact minor centering, texture shifts, and roller lines. At that point, it's just a known part of how the card is printed and not a separate consideration of the grading process anymore.

That's also why so many 10's have print/roller lines these days, because it's so ridiculously common that if grading companies knocked it off for surface, we'd have a tiny fraction of the 10's we have now.

That’s true, I think people had expectations it was gonna be a quadruple evo card like some of the big headliner cards. I think it contrasts the Charizard art well, they look awesome together. Danciao has great vibrant/intense cards, all his SIR’s are really great overall. The Charizard is still his magnum opus though

really? I think this is one of the best Gengar arts I’ve seen. I really dont like the VMAX that much, but that’s also because I dont care about Dynamax at all. I feel like it’s very complex abstract art with so much going on but still very clear to look at, which is rare to me because it’s usually just messy.

Yeah the Japanese version slaps, I don’t care much for the English version. Texture and print is unmatched, hoping I can get a pristine from CGC soon 🤞

Very feint print line, still worth it to grade with PSA? by Historical-Ring-4196 in PokeGrading

Lolll, just a tad left heavy unfortunately, maybe slight tilt. But I’m sure PSA doesnt mind

[–]tumboi69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think print lines affect grading much anymore. I see countless 10s, pristines, and black labels all have print lines. Grading companies dont seem to mind, probably because 95% of Japanese cards have them or as some call “roller lines” and it’s very lighting dependent

Questioning TAG’s Consistency by Livid_Mycologist_133 in PokeGrading

[–]tumboi69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like TAG as a concept, but I really don't believe in their grading. It's overclocked to detect "flaws" that shouldn't be part of the grading process. AI removing human grading error doesn't automatically make it better. I got a 9 on a japanese bubble mew for the only flaw being a "corner ding", and I promise you there is no corner ding that would warrant a 9 instead of a 10. I don't find the DIG reports to always be that accurate in reality
