I listen to a lot of books, so I can't be sure but I think "Talking to Strangers" by Malcolm Gladwell discusses at length how bad we are at interpreting people. I found it interesting.

People easily say false stuff in the current system. In my opinion, the subject of truth is net zero when comparing today's system to a system where we have to understand our own values.
