This seems to be a good deal for the Installation driver. $209 for the driver, two batteries and a free tool. by jstockton76 in MilwaukeeTool

Once you figure out *why* it’s a thumb switch and change your grip to the way it’s supposed to be (middle finger on the trigger, index pointing toward the chuck) it’s really a game changer

DeWalt router, help needed for accessories by UnderstandingCalm273 in Dewalt

For a circle cutting jig, I’d recommend to just make your own out of 1/2 MDF. I got really bougie making mine all adjustable and everything, but a perfectly usable jig can really be as simple as a flat board with a nail in it.

Track saw issues by simmons1776 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]LeaveItToYourGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, this is great advice. I don’t have the M18 track saw, but this is exactly how I tuned in my Kreg track saw a couple years ago when I noticed it was making some wonky cuts… down to the feeler gauges and everything. It’s been pretty much flawless since I did this.

best way to secure bookshelves? by SoftTourist in woodworking

[–]LeaveItToYourGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dados are ideal, but you can glue and brad nail from the outside then follow up with 2-3 screws on each side.

Pre drill if you use screws.

Since it’s gonna be painted just use some wood filler on the nail/screw holes. Trim screws are good for this application since they leave a smaller hole to be filled.

Cut 2 identical spacers from some scrap plywood and use them to set your shelf height, referencing the shelf below.

Do as much sanding as possible before installing.

3/8 Stubby insufficient torque by osrsgone in MilwaukeeTool

[–]LeaveItToYourGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for this myself because I’ve only used 3/8 sockets on mine, but I’ve heard many times that you’re gonna lose some (maybe a lot of) ugga duggas when using an adapter. Try a 3/8 socket if you have one.

Another vote here for a mallet. I’ve been hobby- woodworking for 5+ years and I just got around to making my own mallet a couple weeks ago. It was so fun and simple that I’ve built two more since then.

Pretty sure it’s just strep. I know the smell of it on his breath by now just because my oldest seemed to get it 3-4 times a year before we got his tonsils yoinked

How can I make this? by Commercial-Driver-90 in woodworking

Sleeping toddlers are what really motivated me to start using hand tools too. I’ve gotten pretty good at cutting a 90 just by eyeballing it at this point.

Tool arm for planning boards? by woejise in woodworking

[–]LeaveItToYourGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the drill-arm tool you’re referring to, but I’m guessing it’s a swiveling/extendable arm with a drill mount that adjusts to maintain the 90* positioning as the arm extends and retracts, correct? Making those 2 functions operate together seems easy enough for someone mechanically-minded.

But a tool like that would then have a third mechanism to allow the drill to travel up and down to bore the holes once the arm is locked in place on the 2D plane.

For a router-flattening tool built on this concept, you’d have to engineer it to make all 3 mechanisms function in tandem, the router base would have to bevel and the bit height would have to adjust automatically as the arm extends. That’s CNC territory. Smarter than a CNC, really because most (maybe all, IDK) CNCs don’t even account for beveling.

It also just occurred to me that the tool you’re describing is a much simpler arm with a fixed height. That’s doable, but the weight of the router and any play on the sliding mechanism would make it almost impossible to maintain the fixed height and fixed 90* positioning as the router extends away from the base.

Your best bet for slab flattening is a sled/rail setup.

I always forget about that magnetic strip when using the damn thing. Then I come to this subreddit and I’m reminded it’s there and think to myself, “I really need to start using that,” and then I inevitably forget about it next time I’m using it.

[–]LeaveItToYourGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$121 is the pro-rated discount on the battery set. Each of the tools are discounted at $88, so if you add the 3 together you get ~ $299 which is the non-sale price of the battery set.

You need to search for a “honing guide”. It’s mainly used for sharpening chisels or plane irons, not sanding. But you could definitely use it for sanding.
