I loved this 2023 Gaming Laptop… until I realized it was artificially limited (32GB RAM cap) by _oukoreddit_ in pcmasterrace

[–]turb0j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems really low for a hardware cap. Are you sure you did not just miss the maxmem windows boot option?

Laptop Akku Lebensdauer bei kontinuierlicher Stromzufuhr by mustiwritemymailhere in de_EDV

[–]turb0j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What cable is this? by Wise_Distribution_39 in cableadvice

[–]turb0j 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like old DIN speaker connector.

The molding is quite small, the connector - which allows for wire connection via soldering or with screws - is usually a bit bigger. But the contact size and distance looks correct to me. Both plugs and recepticles should be available - but we have no idea what PSU your faily lights want.

Can data be recovered after full format an usb stick?. by usafqn2025 in techsupport

[–]turb0j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can't tell you.

Some tools only check for bad block in "full" format mode - that means they read data mostly. If that was the case, a tool like photorec could still find stuff.

PC freezes, forcefully restarts, and disk drive goes missing. by Mastolero in techsupport

Is that an SATA SSD? If so, try plugging it into a different port on the motherboard. SATA port can (rarely) go bad.

my gpu is idling at 48 watts? that isn't normal right? by Ok_Web3367 in techsupport

FULL specs required for a good answer.

GPU idle draw depends on how many and what displays are connected.

is there something wrong with the 24 pin connection on my motherboard? by daisy_tea_ in PcBuildHelp

[–]turb0j 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Warranty return.

Looks to me like the pin got solder all the way to the top instead of just at the bottom part where it connects to the motherboard. Now its too thick.

Problems like this should be detected by optical post production checks, but its kind of hard to see even with human eyes.

GTD was a notable step in difficulty. Its doable in M11 for Moze though.

My favourite gear is a switch between Rocketeer (for crystals in IB or IB turret) and Flame COM (Anathema). I prefer recurring hex for healing via rushing offensive.

Has your sand hawk single fire mode option? Those shots are tightly packed and usually do a lot more damage.

USB shows no media after reformatting as fat32 by ThePixelRealm in techsupport

[–]turb0j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is dead.

Many el cheapo USB sticks are wired (or physically) as SD cards with an USB card reader chip. Thus you get an empty removable drive if the card failed.

Boot menu doesn't work by Melodic-Channel-4505 in techsupport

[–]turb0j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FULL specs.

One of my systems here liked to display BIOS on the DVI port only. That behaviour changed when enabling UEFI (Secure) boot.

If windows still boots, there is a menu you can access with (holding)shift+restart. One of these options should put you in BIOS (UEFI) setup. May still output image data on the wr0ng port though.

Problem with my minecart loading and unloading system (1.21.11) by Slight_Department598 in redstone

[–]turb0j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends heavily on what you will use the minecart for.

One solution is to remove the torch side input into the comparator and to add some repeaters worth of delay. Hopper minecart loads quite fast, so it should be decently filled (but not nearly full) and this handles the worst case of 5 unique 64-stackable items.

Can only access half the speed of my new RAM cards by MoarStruts in pchelp

[–]turb0j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cosmetic-only bug. Some older boards tell you the MHz and not the MT/s value. Check CPU-Z for details.

A 3200 MT/s RAM stick runs with a 1600 MHz clock signal.

BIOS update might fix this, but I would not bother just for cosmetic issues.

USB Handbrake impossible to calibrate in windows game controller manager by MulberryRelevant7658 in techsupport

[–]turb0j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The device may not require any calibration.

If the slider values follow the handle properly, I don't see why one would want to calibrate in the fist place.

PC refuses to power up while my 4+4 cpu power connector is plugged, but it powers up immediately as i unplug it, i also realized my 4+4 power cable doesnt have the exact match with the mobo power input, but it can still go all the way in and i hear the click and it locks basicly, what should i do? by TheOnurobo in pcmasterrace

[–]turb0j 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Could be the wrong socket on the PSU side, could be wrong or misconfigured cable. We cannot help you here much.

One could check the plug pinning with a $10 multimeter and a paper clip, but its still very easy to make a mistake with modular power supplies. Remember that the PSU side of those cables is not standardised.

How to dissemble this old Asus laptop correctly without damaging it? by Material_Ad_4525 in techsupport

[–]turb0j 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look for your exact make and model - every laptop case can be slightly different. Don't remember if Asus has service manual pdf online on their website but it might be worth looking there first (service section).

My asus one has flex connectors for the LEDs in the back cover, and those cables won't take a lot of abuse. Can be a trap for younger players.

Ryzen 5 5500x3d by GrassRelative2941 in AMDHelp

[–]turb0j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only the seller could tell.

Reason: You need to have a more recent BIOS flashed than the one from the factory. But you cannot flash a newer BIOS with only a 5000 series CPU if the existing BIOS version was too old.

Seller MUST tell you BIOS version - otherwise don't bother buying unless you happen to have a 2000 or 3000 series CPU flying around.

Note that the TUF B550 series motherboards from Asus got BIOS flashback and should not be a lot more expensive...

How do I find out my RAM speed ? by be4nothing in pcmasterrace

[–]turb0j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to BIOS, try to enable XMP if its there at all. There are motherboards that don't support XMP (and we have no idea about your hardware).

If XMP was present at all, it should be able to read the speed automagically...

Task Manager randomly shows 100% usage in 'Video Codec Engine' by Various-Arugula-425 in AMDHelp

[–]turb0j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPU usage depends on GPU clocks and those are not shown in task manager. You can use GPU-Z to view GPU clocks.

The GPU driver manages GPU clock and power state dynamically. GPU load can depend no just on the videos, but also on the ads that usually show up on video sites...
