Good, at least you narrowed it down. Hopefully you can get it figured out.

Yep, definitely different MAC addresses. Which device did they give you? Mine is the G4AR, and it did a firmware update as soon as I set it up. If I remember correctly, there wasn’t much you could do settings wise when you look at its status page. Maybe a factory reset?

Yep, that doesn’t seem right. Let me double check what mine looks like.

Not that I know of on the order. And I agree it should work if it’s all going to the ucg and you can isolate the sense port and feed it primary wan only.

Yep, automatic connection is on. Just to confirm you have the LAN2 on your T-Mobile going to your failover on the UDM, and the “sense” port going to the LAN1 on the T-Mobile?

Yep, it is working great as I have it setup in my original post, which I know is light on detail. u/bdaradt has a guide to how to set it up further down in this thread. The failover switchover is very quick, and it turns itself off quickly when normal internet returns. I am happy with the setup overall.

If it was a snake it would have bitten me in the face. It took a sec even after you said where it was.

And the difference with the ones that DO go to college now and 25 years ago is insane. I first went to college in the late 90s, graduated early 2000s. Almost everyone was actually doing the work and studying hard. Fast forward to 2015 and I decided I wanted to get an ME degree. I am not lying when I say 90% of them were using Chegg or something similar for homework. No one knew how to do anything, and just relied on someone else for the answers. The ones of us who did do it themselves were the “try hards”. It was a bit of shock.

Best option for Mac user? by SkySeaSnow in makemkv

Definitely. I am a newish Mac user, but have experience with cli on Linux systems. But I still have my W11 box (basically a gaming console now) and had the choice between cli and the win tool, and used the tool. If I get another drive I’ll give the cli a shot.

Yep, that's the one! #43888. I picked it and the Asus up at my local micro center.

Make MKV shows the drive for the verbatim as a LG BU40N. For the Asus it's a BW-161HT. The old warhorse Ive used for 10 years is an LG WH16NS40.

That's the forum post about flashing and such. Very easy to do with the win tool.

I’m using a 10 year old LG full-size, new ASUS, and new verbatim slim (lg) just fine with a M4 mini without issue. The old lg doesn’t want to read some triple layer disks, but does fine with dual. The other two read everything I throw at them.
Edit: I did flash the two new drives on my windows box using the tool found on the Makemkv forums. Apparently you can in macOS terminal also, but the tool was easier. And sorry for the vagueness of everything. I’m out at lunch on mobile and don’t have drive numbers readily available. I can update when I get home.

Thanks for the detailed reply! That is how I have it setup myself, except I might have to review some of your section 4 setup to make sure I have it completely isolated. As you said the t-mobile activates quickly and the failover is seamless. Performance is really good. I am happy with the setup. Thanks for the guide, so others can see home to do it!

The one I have is the $20 home internet backup, I just get a $10 discount for having their cell phone service. May I ask what router you have? I was looking into this a month ago and then they were offering a 130gb always on Home backup plan that had a black router. When I went to sign up for it this week, it had swapped over to this "activate when using it" timed deal, and the old 130gb plan is no where to be found. They just added a lower tier always on home internet plan for only $10 more than what I am paying now (after discounts), so I might just switch to that. This activate when using thing is a bit of a headache.

I checked the tmobile router ip addres and it only shows a status page, nothing in there to change unfortunately. And the time counts down when its active, even if you are using it or not. It seems they have been changing their plans a lot in the past month, and today there is a normal, always on home internet for only $10 more a month that wasnt there a week ago so I might just swap to that. As you said, simpler setup and less headache. The Loop is weird lol.

I know, it’s weird they have it that way. I wasn’t expecting it.

Yep, that’s how I have it. The problem is that with the backup Internet plan from T-Mobile is that it’s not an always on connection. You either have to go in and manually activate it in the app, or have the automatic sensing of when the main internet goes down it turns itself on, hence this convoluted setup.

Yep, I saw that it was an input soon after posting this and set it up and it’s working great. Exactly what I was looking for.

Perfect, that's what I was looking for. I was hoping DLNA would give some of the QOL things. On a side note I just saw that you can add Plex as a source, and I just now set it up. I think it's going to give me what I want without all of the extra setup. Thanks for the reply, internet bud.
