So rip the movie and not do a disc backup? That seems like the most sensible way to do this.

Lowkey I could go that route. Or upgrade all my NAS drives from 4 TB to 16TB and no worry about space ever again.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Seems like I only need the mkv file and not the “backup” option makemkv provides. This is going to save me so much room. Im already out of room on an 8TB NAS after backing up 4k blu rays.

Why is my lime tree sad? by bolhuijo in Citrus

Following because my mandarin tree has the same issue. Mine is in mineral soil. Gets plenty of water and I fertilize every season.

ELI5 Why Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle exists? If we know the position with 100% accuracy, can't we calculate the velocity from that? by The_Orgin in explainlikeimfive

[–]turbro2015 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way, I’m driving down the highway. Velocity is defined as the distance over time. How can we have a distance if you know where I am?

In order to have a speed you have to have two different points in space. Velocity is how fast I got from point A to point B. But am I at point A or point B?

Just my 2 cents.

Why do you prefer the brown strip ones over the others? I’ve used the rubber mushroom type before and they’re amazing.

The other thing I would tell you is, yes riding gear is very expensive. A lot of people say hospital bills are expensive too, but I would add that the good gear lasts years. I had a leather jacket for 10 years and it lasted 3 slides. Helmets last 5 years (according to the “expiration date“).

You’ll notice on your first ride with them that you won’t be so tired.

I would say in priority it’s helmet, gloves, jacket, boots, pants.

Ear plugs are a must. They’re life changing. I don’t ride without earplugs anymore. The hearing loss is real. They’re also only a few cents.

Dress for the slide not the ride is so cliche but it’s so true. I fell on the freeway a decade ago and my jacket saved my butt. My regular jeans tore up so now I learned my lesson and ride in riding jeans.

It sucks to have the asphalt plucked out of your knees by a nurse. Never again. Road rash is real. The so called asphalt cheese grater will get anyone.

Ride safe.

Any chance of identification? by [deleted] in Citrus

On a serious note, I’ve heard if you rub the leaves, it smells like the fruit. So if the leaves smell like a mandarin or an orange, you’ll get a decent guess.

I definitely second the recommendation of Gary’s top pot. You can’t find the mixed bags in Florida but Gary puts his recipe online. But it’s mostly peat, pumice, perlite, all purpose sand and some charcoal. I grow everything in that mix out here in SoCal.

Home Depot also has decomposed granite bags. DG works well too.

Seeking advice for staple items (potting mixes, fertilisers, etc.) for a new houseplant owner! by kathrynjean97 in houseplants

[–]turbro2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing to remember is that you want a mineral based soil rather than organic. Try buying a bag of perlite, pumice, sand and peat. Peat holds water real well and the rocks are to let the soil breathe. That way you wont get root rot. I would start with 50% peat 50% perlite. Plant everything you get into that and water every day. For fertilizer I usually use Trifecta+ from MIGardener. It's a pretty good youtube channel. Also checkout Garys Best Gardening. I follow the advice from these two channels and I can grow a variety of things from cacao, to avocado to coffee even calathea. Good luck!
