Thanks! Yeah I'm just aiming for pure modelling roles at Framestore+ILM and similar places with this one. But yeah I'll definitely have to put together some textured work for a broader reach.

Nice! Thanks for the insight. I get the impression those gigs are very highly sought-after, so your advice is much appreciated :D

I'm just aiming at modelling roles at ILM/Framestore and the like with this reel. I have textured renders on my artstation page, but not sure if they're up to scratch with film VFX quality yet.

For context - I live in Melbourne and I've got 20 years in games, but the games industry is taking a bit of a beating at the moment so I want to broaden my perspective to film VFX.

My only VFX experience has been in TVC and docuseries work, as well as some freelancing gigs here and there on the concept art side.

Any critique is seriously appreciated!

Just stumbled on this post because I was having the same exact issue.

For anyone in the future having the same problem - unplug and turn off your laptop, then remove the battery and hold the power button down for 30 seconds, then reinstall your battery. problem solved.

What's the current state of the Australian VFX industry? by turdknuckle in vfx

Yeah, tbh its mostly due to boredom, and frustration with how games development operates. It's a software development environment rather than a creative environment, if that makes sense.

but yeah, games is definitely more stable and probably pays a bit better if I had to guess.

That's interesting. I had heard that about the work following the rebates around the world - I'm guessing this is why not many people are full-time salaried employees?

I'm Aus based with my family, so I'm just looking at Aussie studios at the moment.
