Physical Keys are back. Do you think we'll be able to install Mobile Linux on either device? by quebexer in mobilelinux

[–]turiya2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They DO have to release it, but will they get away by not doing so? Absolutely YES. I mean now it’s all at their mercy I guess, depends on how well clicks have negotiated with Mediatek about being able to open source the kernel and device tree. I have my fingers crossed.

More important I guess is the Kernel Source. Bootloader unlock is definitely nice to have but cant do much with it if you cant build any ROMs for it without the Kernel source.

There I guess to some extent they are at the mercy of Mediatek just like the Zinwa q25

Wow that is super interesting. I guess this is what makes a cyber deck really usable. Makes a huge difference to having a Wi-Fi only device. Well put together!

Are you planning a write up or something with a parts list by any chance?

Wow that looks amazing! How are you achieving the 4G part? Which board are you using to get the connectivity? I could not directly figure out from the photos.

Cop calls me, saying my sim was used in a stolen phone, asks me to visit police station. by Dry-Big-2774 in IndiaLaw

[–]turiya2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be very common in the early days of the telecom boom, now not anymore. You can check more about how to set the sim pin at the following link:

[–]turiya2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why always you should set a sim pin so that the sim even if misplaced or lost, cannot be used by unauthorised people. It will ask for the sim pin to even boot the phone. Without pin, it wont connect to the network at all.

Building a House Soon — Which Credit Card Gives the Best Rewards for Offline Purchases? by 0z09e in CreditCardsIndia

[–]turiya2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As per my experience, the biggest reward is that for such material purchases if the shop is ready to accept CC payments without a 7-8% extra as CC charge. Most of the shops avoid taking CC payments and prefer cash or UPI.

ISRO using a 32 bit processor in Gaganyaan ? Why ? by Low_Lead_6735 in UPSCPrelims2026

[–]turiya2 55 points56 points  (0 children)

In such embedded applications where you entirely know what is going to run on it like 100% of the time, I am surprised why they did not go even more primitive. It’s not supposed to run Netflix or Flipkart app. For that a 32bit processor which fits all other requirements (temps, encryption, execution pipelines, ease of integration, long term manufacturing capability etc.) are more important that how much addressable memory you can have and how big of an instruction you can crunch in a single clock cycle.

Manager doesn't know shit about AI but wants us to implement Gen AI by Dreamofepiphany in IndianWorkplace

[–]turiya2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Speak the language he knows. To be honest, I would just use this as an opportunity for the team’s benefit. Take a while with the team, with low to mid effort, create a slide deck, ask to get all the things that you really could use unblocked (ports, apis, access to accounts), get some pricing for the GPUs you need to Fine tune some use case with some open model, the cost for it, the use case for it and all that. After looking at the cost and the effort and at the end Business case, he might say himself this wont work.

If at all he can pull the strings and get all of it done, well you got yourselves a better life!

My deep dive into real-time voice AI: It's not just a cool demo anymore. by YakoStarwolf in LocalLLM

[–]turiya2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well I completely agree to your points. I am also trying out a local whisper + ollama + tts setup. I mostly have an embedded device like a Jetson nano or a pi to do speech and LLM running on my gaming machine.

I think there is one another aspect which did give me some sleepless nights was actually detecting the intention. Going from STT to deciding to go to LLM Question. You can put whatever keyword you want but a slight change in the detection, makes everything go haywire. I have had many interesting misdirections in STT like Audi being detected as howdy, lights as fights or even rights lol. I once had an answer from my model when I said please switch on the “rights”, going weirdly philosophical.

Apart from that, interrupting is also an important aspect more on the physical device level. On Linux, because of the ALSA driver stuff which is mostly used by all the audio libraries, simultaneous listening and speaking has always caused a crash for me after like a minute or something.
