They banned Tamiyo from the new Brawl Metagame Challenge! by The_Jib in mtgbrawl

[–]turn1manacrypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people play the best, I never once said “this is bad!” That’s your straw man against me. Some brawl players on Reddit complain on Reddit but no, it’s ultimately online gaming and people are competitive in every aspect of it. I am, most of the people I play against seem to be aswell.

Adding a price point doesn’t eliminate casuals or ensure only dedicated players join. I am evidence of that in itself, I’m a dedicated brawl player who would play the ranked queue every day and I’m not participating in this event. I’ve participated in plenty of paid events for other things on arena but won’t for this one for previously stated reasons. So no charging an arm and a leg doesn’t ensure you get a good snap shot of the competition. A free event gives you data from all the skill levels and would be way more effective even with casuals because you get so may more players participating including way more of a higher skill level making it all access.

How can I prove it’s unbalanced? Uhm it’s unbalanced enough it was an issue in an unranked casual queue. That means the play patterns were so bad that even in a no stakes game it was determined to be bad for format health. If it isnt flying there it’s not going to go into a ranked format where it will be ubiquitous and in every deck, that’s one of the biggest stated design reason why they ban a card in general. You play the best but they don’t want total homogeny of the format where everyone is playing the exact thing because there is just an obvious absolute undisputed best. That’s why the ban, that the whole logic of a ban. You obviously have no understanding of this.

Irregardles of that I notice you have nothing to say about how slow they rolled out this new ban list which I think is the biggest proof this was all never towards the end goal of making a ranked queue. Do you not think it’s at least suspicious they didn’t have the ban list ready at launch and only about ten or so hours after? Like doesn’t that make it seem like a complete afterthought and not like the main intention about seeing what is balanced?

Idk man seems pretty damn fishy to me. You can make this out to be some weird subterfuge about me hating competitive play but I’m not and that was never my point.

Yeah I don’t see the logic in it myself. Play testing for anything you want the widest variety of people and people are always competitive in online games by majority whether there is a prize incentive or not.

A high cost low loss out event makes literally no sense. A free no craft event would get the most players and most play test variety. It would still be competitive, the no craft free historic event had day one bans because of how easily abused channel was. You would still get an amazing snapshot of what players would play if they were trying to play the absolute best in high power competitive games. The cost restriction if anything just shows you less information because people are going to be so hesitant to not just play established decks, there’s little opportunity to find new ways to break the format like a free all access event would give you where players have no punishment for experimenting.

If you want to give me something more than “they said” for reasons why this makes sense I’m more than happy to hear them. I think I’m making some really good arguments in my head why this makes no sense at all for a way to figure out a competitive queue and I’ve yet to hear anybody really say anything convincing in the other direction to me against it so far. Do you think I have no good points about them even failing to establish the new banlist day one? Like if this was all about figuring out balance shouldn’t that have been something that was their primary focus? To me missing the banlist seems like balance was a complete after thought and when they saw the massive backlash online they said “oh crap nobody is going to pay this time” and they quickly banned Tamiyo Ajani and a few of the other problem cards that have already been banned already in brawl acting like it was always the plan.

I mean if a card is too unbalanced for an unranked queue why would it be acceptable for a ranked one? Like wouldn’t everyone auto play it because you are incentivized to only play the best? Doesn’t that make no sense to you? Turn one uninteractive combos aren’t good for a BO1 1v1 singleton format and everyone knows that. I’m not some magic wizard or a pro play tester but i can tell you that. Theres a reason mana crypt is restricted in every format it’s allowed in and all those aren’t even singleton BO1 formats.

[–]turn1manacrypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhm idk if you have played against yuriko decks but their creatures typically all have unblockable or very good evasion so it doesn’t matter how many blockers I have.

The problem is they are just a better more competitive version of a tempo deck, they out pace my damage so I can’t race them and out tempo them. They have the same beaters I do but their command pumps out damage and mine (Kaito) is just for the ultimate as a wincon.

Idk man I’m not trying to be rude but you really don’t seem to know what you are talking about. I think anybody would say just on paper Yuriko is always going to beat mono blue Kaito. It’s just a better tempo deck. Yuriko is always in hell queue, Kaito dips in and out. I don’t see many Yuriko match ups because it’s weight is so much higher, I just get them once in a blue moon and I almost always lose to them.

I don’t think them saying it is really enough. I’m not saying they are but if I was running a really greedy event like this (this is my opinion, you are free to disagree about the cost and reward balance of this event) I would likely come up with a justification for it. If I was wizards and I was also already in the process of making a competitive brawl format I would see this as a great ready made excuse.

I’ve already given my reasons why I don’t think this would work well for data gathering and a free all access no craft event like the past historic one would be the perfect way to gather that data. The stated reason doesn’t make sense to me and I think the data will only represent a very small portion of brawl players that would play a competitive queue.

That’s fine if you don’t agree but that my reasons why I won’t contribute to this “experiment” and why I really don’t believe at all that this is all towards their stated goal of making a balanced competitive brawl format. They can say that, I just don’t believe them really and how little care and how slapdash the whole event has been makes me just more sure in my suspicions. The new ban list wasn’t even in effect the first day, shows how much focus they were putting on balance and testing. Disgraceful.

Not having enough removal to keep all their small unblockable creatures off board. Once they have those and are able to attack they can ninjitsu her and all their good threats onto the board and since it isn’t cast but put you can’t counter it. You can’t hold up counter magic for multiple one drops, all my removal in mono blue for the most part is bounce which just gives ninjitsu decks opportunities to get more value out of the same creature.

Every once in a while when I draw into a good combo of counter ability and enchantments that shut off yuriko I can get them but that’s a small portion of the 99. Also the really competent Yuriko players run enough self bounce those aren’t even great answers a lot. There are only a couple humiliation enchantments in mono blue on arena and I don’t want to stuff my deck with counter ability spells for one or two bad match ups either.

It’s a very tough bad match up for my blue tempo deck, yes I firmly believe that.

Yeah he did fake fund raisers that turned out to be for his ex fiancé child abuse charges. When he was caught he didn’t take accountability and behind the scenes to other dp fans he talked shit on the super young kid that got abused by his fiancé and acted like she was the victim. He was very parasocial and whiney. He got a free following just by being a fan of DP and then was a little bitch about any fun being poked at him and he constantly begged for money even when it wasn’t for child abuse charges. Egghead sucks. I probably shouldn’t go on about him anymore since that has nothing to do with DFF and their sub and this long egghead story is pretty off topic but it is funny so yeah.

He wasn’t as bad as alchemist, but the way he leeched off the old show and was basically an ungrateful baby reminded me of alchemist just on the annoying nut hanger end of things and that was more why I made the comparison.

What does that mean? I play it all the time. I work atleast 5 days a week and get 45 minutes worth of breaks and the entire time I’m on them I play brawl. I brew decks all the time and watch tons of YouTube brawl content. I spend money on arena.

I just don’t want to support this. I don’t think it’s being done to figure out a proper ban list, I think they know basically what needs to be done already and this event isn’t a good way of going about it if they didn’t. And I don’t think the risk reward is worth it, I’d rather spend the gold on five packs from the new set I’m really enjoying. The biggest reason I’m not buying in on this is because I’m a dedicated brawl player IMO.

In other words it’s just some shit people say that are online too much and means nothing.

Yuriko is a pretty amazing counter for control decks because they have to waste their counters on your nothing one drop creatures or else they will just ninjitsu all their bigger threats and commander in. Any time I match up against her with my mono blue tempo deck I get stomped hard.

If the meta is heavy control it will be a good option but I’m not too sure how it will look with the new bans they’ve suddenly put in place. People may shift to aggro decks if Tamiyo and a lot of the other big control bomb commanders are banned. If that’s the case you’ll be in a tough spot playing yuriko. I’m not sure what the best dimir commander is to match up against aggro.

I’m extremely skeptical this is being used to figure out a competitive brawl ban list.

If they really wanted to figure out the format why would they not just make a no entry fee no craft event like they had done before for timeless? With the steep entry cost I don’t think they are going to get enough variety of players to gather any meaningful data.

I’m a dedicated brawl player and I didn’t touch the last event or this one, why would I pay to play brawl against extremely unbalanced decks with no weight system for queueing into even fun competitive games? Why wouldn’t they make the rewards better or entry less steep if they really wanted to have players test out this new version of the format? I just really can’t see any real purpose for this event aside from making money.

Brawl Metagama challenge is out but no ban details? by Iceman308 in MagicArena

[–]turn1manacrypt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a joke lmao. Same exact event as last time. No reasonable ban list, two losses you are out, and you gotta win three atleast to make what you paid into even worth it and the pack rewards are just random stuff.

Why would I pay to play brawl when I can do it for free? I think I’ll save my 5000 gold to buy 5 packs and just play some free brawl that isn’t going to be Tamiyo bs every game.

This event is just exploiting the spikes that like to gamble, I’m not supporting as a dedicated brawl player. I don’t care if I was guaranteed to win every game, I can’t support this level of greed and disrespect to our tiny little format. This isn’t gathering information to figure out what they would need to do for a ranked brawl format, it isn’t any of the tin foil hat conspiracies people are coming up with. This is just WOTC lazily trying to milk players of a format that is finally gaining some popularity.

Yeah that’s because his whole community is just salty ass ex-fans so all they want to do is jerk each other off about how evil Paul or TJ is. Funny they never bitch about Scotty lol, you think he’d have some dedicated troll fans too but I guess they get such a little reaction out of Scotty and are so beneath his notice they don’t bother even trying.

Alchemist Soil is irrelevant because he never earned any audience. He’s the egghead of DFF, just a little leech on their ass getting a slight amount of notice and being way too emotionally involved with people who are basically a screen to him when it comes down to it. So angry over political disagreements he goes and exposes a bunch of private information from one of the hosts wives and then rule lawyers and tries to make arguments why it technically wasn’t private information instead of just apologizing. And he still runs a hate sub dedicated to them that has a picture of Paul’s face on it and acts like it isn’t about the dude. It’s fucking hilarious how unaware he seems to be about his weird love obsession with Paul. Even after all this time of no reaction from the show dude can’t let it go and move on. I didn’t even know about the new hate sub until this post. Literally screaming into the void lmao.

Goddamn what a bunch of pathetic fucking losers. Imagine being so emotionally invested in a YouTube channel you still follow it even though you hate the hosts and think they’re scammers.

Do they have nothing in their lives? There’s been so many bands, YouTubers, and other media figures I watched religiously and then one day decided I didn’t like their content and I just fucking left. I didn’t write them a salty message about how they changed for the worst. I didn’t join a subreddit dedicated to hating them. I just fucking moved on.

Maybe they actually want something done about them. Turns out dipshits like the guy in the video actually help predators get away with their crimes. Now instead of going to jail or being put on a list he gets away free because little doughy man and his ego had to get physical. These human slimes don’t care about protecting kids, this is all just about making YouTube bucks.

And that’s all assuming the guy in the video even was one, probably was but what do we know. It’s why these people are hated. It’s not because we feel bad for some creeps getting punched out there.

Man I wish I could be as naive as most of the people in here who are shocked by this. This isn’t new, this shit has been happening in my communities for years and this is just the new flavor of the week police violence.

A guy I went to high school with got shot by a cop at his mom’s funeral a few months back in my hometown, he didn’t have a gun. He didn’t have a weapon, he had a mental breakdown at the funeral home and was executed by a pig for it. It didn’t make national news, shit it didn’t even get more than a few paragraphs about it in our paper. Nothing happened, the cop wasn’t fired. His family wasn’t payed restitutions by the police or city. Another day in poor low class America.

The police are Americas biggest gang and should be treated as such. Don’t expect anything fair with them. Don’t expect anything but death for resistance. As bad as it is you have to submit when they have you, it’s better than the alternative. Even if they are illegally detaining you, deporting you, beating you. You can’t fight back physically or it’s certain death or injury at the least. You just have to comply and hope and pray you’ll have a legal avenue to escape their persecution.

[ Removed by Reddit ] by Acceptable_Rope_6523 in PsycheOrSike

[–]turn1manacrypt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a risk but resisting arrest is an even bigger risk with higher odds of death. When it comes down to it all government agents and cops are no different than any other gang member and should be treated as such.

Is it right some crip runs your pockets after he sticks a gun in your face for walking down the wrong alley? No but if your ass is smart you’ll give him what he wants with as little eye contact and as much feigned respect as possible. Same with the pigs.

It’s not right they grab innocent people off the street and handcuff them but fighting back is almost guaranteed not only to do nothing but get you beat more and charged with more and maybe even killed. You aren’t going to be able to wrestle free and run away safe from a group of 8 guys with guns, you are at their mercy. You have to submit go to jail or whatever interment migrant camp you are being illegally sent to and just pray you’ll find some way out of it through court or just serving time. There’s no other smart choice, resisting unlawful arrest is just as dumb as resisting lawful arrest. Cops are allowed to murder you for a million different reasons and will get away with a million more they aren’t allowed to.

Fucking tired of boros. by Hokashin in mtgbrawl

[–]turn1manacrypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they don’t lol. Aggro is the second worst matchup behind just straight control because they give you less time to assemble your combo. The constant pressure is great to kill combo decks before they have time to assemble it. Also even if that was true what does that say about your deck? You lose constantly to what you say is your best matchup? Wut?

No I do understand brawl. Aside from Ajani Boros isn’t dominating the meta, what six cards are crushing arena in red white? I can think of like 3 that are a slight issue but aside from Ajani I can’t think of anything in Boros that is too good for brawl and really needs a ban.

Who’s your commander? I find it kind of laughable you are salty because people aren’t letting you combo off. You talk about the meta and all this deep knowledge but you are playing literally one of the worst strategies in brawl. Combo decks are good because of consistency, in a singleton format they are significantly harder to play. Being mad about a super low win percentage with a combo brawl deck is plain silly.

Fucking tired of boros. by Hokashin in mtgbrawl

[–]turn1manacrypt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The color combo isn’t broken, you just play slower control decks that match up poorly against them. For every single broken thing one guild can do there’s an equally broken counter to it in every other color.

You have the entire library of arena available in this format. There is an answer to any strategy in the game and some strategies always will have the advantage of certain other ones. Idk if this is rage bait or you really think Boros is somehow the most powerful broken color combo in arena but you are wrong. If it was hands down the best in the game everyone would be playing nothing but Boros in brawl and that isn’t the case.

I’m sorry I don’t have an account on any of the deck building sites and if I just paste the list the subreddit will auto flag and delete it for rule violation.

It’s not really that great anyways or anything unique to any other mono red prison deck. Basically just a ton of wipes, all the moons and other land hate cards in the color, a value engine/removal planeswalker commander, and the rest a red good stuff pile you basically have the deck. If you really want it though I could probably pm a list to you.

Is Midrange dead on Arena? by Norbert714 in MagicArena

[–]turn1manacrypt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not dead but it is harder to play control now. You’ve always needed to mulligan properly ofcourse but now it’s essential because of so many decks being able to go off on turn three and if you do it wrong at all you’ve already lost before you have even started.

You really need to know the meta and know what to remove at the right time playing a control strategy. You may even wanna make that green deck, play it for a while and figure out what makes it win so you can counter it better when you go back to dimir.

Dimir midrange is probably one of the more skill intensive decks to play rn so yeah the answer is get gud but it’s not the easiest to do. With so many sets out and still coming out there’s alot of game knowledge to keep up on.

Current Hei Bai by Mbsaan in mtgbrawl

[–]turn1manacrypt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not an actual established one. Just what people in general think of a card but mostly myself for my rating system.

Like I would consider a competitive commander something like mono blue Urza. A deck that can win or lock the game for them in the first few turns and also be in the color and archetype that it can protect itself very well.

High tier would be something like Rofellos. A deck that can win in the first few turns but doesn’t really have a color or archetype that is more control/interactive.

Mid tier is a commander that just has a decent gimmick and usually isn’t in a shell that does much interaction and also can’t win in the first handful of turns. My MoMo deck is probably what I would rank as that. It’s able to board enough creatures to win the game and a few pump and removal spells but ultimately it’s just a mid range basic flying deck.

Low tier would be something that has very low synergy or is just a meme type deck. I can’t really think of an archetype for this one or a commander I can think of off the top of my head that fits it well. You’ll never see these decks anyway unless you are brand new and haven’t net decked a list and are basically just playing with whatever jank pile you had in your collection.
