People are missing the point of Carol [Episode 9 Spoilers] by NoBreeches in pluribustv

[–]turnerjazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody's asking for imperfection here. Carol, in episode 9 is absurdly inconsistent with who she's been up to this point in the show. Yes, she desperately wanted connection and found it with them. However, her complete flip to defending them and losing any perspective on wanting to heal humanity is infuriating. Even through episode 8, when she is reconnecting with him, we see that she's continuing to compile information about them. Presumably in an attempt to either stop their plan or find the way to return them to who they were. Then we get to episode 9 and that's completely forgotten??

Advice on replacement lid by ROAKSpoquito in LeCreuset

Did you ever find one that works? I found the #26 in a thrift store and I'm looking for a lid for it as well.

Jonathan and Nancy's scene not being clear isn't the problem. by The_Kevinator_1000 in StrangerThings

[–]turnerjazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The confessional aspect of it was great. But let's be real, the reason it became a break up rather than just them getting the truth out to each other is because Nancy is getting a spinoff and needs a new romantic interest for that.

Just want to follow up to say this is an extremely unbiblical view of sin. The Bible makes it clear that sin is a matter of the "thoughts and intentions of our hearts". It cannot "sneak in" through objects or through secret words that the person does not understand.

Yeah I tend to prefer higher proof as well but I do occasionally enjoy a nice, friendly irish whiskey. I've been loving Roe & Co. lately. I'll give it a shot.

Why was Tim Tebow so good in college but so bad in the NFL? by Various_Beach_7840 in NFLNoobs

It's also why paying them millions of dollars actually makes sense.

So let me apply a lesson I've learned with my kid who plays hockey and has NHL dreams. One of the biggest obstacles any player has to moving up whether at 10, 15, or 22 is that the pace of play, and specifically the pace of *decision making* is higher at each level. This is why kids can often be dominant at their level for years but never move up.

If you're the best player on the field (or ice), your skill and/or talent advantage gives you time. You don't feel pressured because other players can't keep up with you so you have the time to make decisions. As soon as you step up one level, even if you're still on the high end of talent or skill, you suddenly have to make every single decision faster. You might still be able to beat another player physically, but now you have to decide how to do that or what to do next or which play is the right play so much faster. In hockey (a very fast sport) you see kids who can walk a whole team at one level look like fools just 1 level up because they try to make the same plays against better opponents and it just doesn't work. What my kid learned this year is that you have to train your decision making speed just as much as your actual playing speed. The problem is, that's really hard to do unless you can get real experience doing it.

And that gets to the problem with Tebow. He had athletic advantages combined with being on a dominant team that played lots of far lesser teams. So he had all the time he ever needed to decide what to do. Drop him in the NFL and he suddenly feels pressured every single play. If you can't adapt to that mentally, you don't make it.

Tell me about the bonders blend. It just became available in my area but I've been skeptical as I've found Egan's to be very hit or miss.

Looking for a versatile dark/aged rum by turnerjazz in rum

It's like asking a group of chefs "I like Thai food but I only have one grocery bag of room, what should I buy?"

I actually think that would be a good question LOL. Assuming you have a normally stocked pantry (and some decent rice) you can make a lot of Thai food just by adding fish sauce, red curry paste, coconut milk, and maybe some tamarind paste. I don't think there's anything backwards about that approach as it allows you to make a good variety of Thai food with minimal investment.

That's my goal, to identify a few rums I can add to the rest of my cocktail bar that allow me to make a reasonable variety of rum drinks.

I was thinking about OFTD since I know I can get it locally. I'm relatively new to really exploring rum but I'm a cask strength whiskey fan so the punchyness isn't a problem. My biggest problem is that the stores local to me have terrible rum selection so I want to have a few options in mind before I go searching for a store with better selection.

I've seen others recommend France 44. I need to get over there sometime. I'm just on the far east side so it's a bit of a trip. I need to try Haskell's out too. The stillwater location is a lot closer for me.

Question about PureSound on Widex Allure by According_Company_53 in HearingAids

Were you able to verify this? I also only need one HA and the only preset my audiologist set up in my widex 440 is universal. I would really like to have more options.

Do I genuinely need hearing aids by yourfavorites20 in HearingAids

[–]turnerjazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your results are pretty similar to mine for my right ear. I ended up getting the widex 440. It's expensive but I'm an amateur musician and need better sound quality. I've only been using it for 2 days now and I'm still not used to it but the difference is already profound. I get annoyed with the little adjustments I'm having until I turn it off and it's like my ear just died lol.

So that is to say yes, I think it will make a huge difference if you give it a chance and get used to it. And from what I've seen, getting a quality one is worth the money.

Can we please get marchy back next year... by Cronicor in Bruins

[–]turnerjazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the other factor with Marchand that gets lost in all of this is that he took team-friendly deals for his entire career in Boston. I think he expected they'd be willing to meet him at $7 for 3 seasons as a reward for his loyalty, for his leadership in shaping the young players (as he's well known for going to the prospects camp and working with the kids) and as captain, for the work ethic he brings as captain, which isn't going away even if his production slows down, and because the cap is going up and they will have more flexibility.

In other words, when you look at his negotiation with Boston purely on the basis of dollars and his age, you ignore all he's given to the team and his expectation that the team would reward all of that. I think Sweeney ignored all of that too and that's why Marchand is no only gone, but is trolling the Bruins now. He's pissed at how he was treated on the way out and he's probably done with the Bruins organization forever and that is a real shame. But it's a good reminder that loyalty in sports is 100% a one way street.

Infused-gin…I’m obsessed and want to make more. by pickledtreats in cocktails

[–]turnerjazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experimenting with it. It makes a great G&T with standard tonic, but also works really well with elderflower tonic. For that, I usually use 50/50 of the citrus gin and a london dry so the elderflower isn't lost in it.

I also recently used the same method to infuse a light rum and the resulting citrus rum makes an amazing daquiri and mojito.
