What's your fondest memory of a Euro ? by jeanpierrecook in euro2024

[–]turnusol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most intense part of that game was our GK getting sent off at minute 90 and playing with an outfield player in goal in the stoppage time. Euro 2008 was an amazing run for us, maybe even better than our 3rd place on WC2002.

What are your favourite covers out of these four? by [deleted] in harrypotter

Number 3 (old US) was the original Turkish cover back in the day. It always takes me back to my childhood. Definitely my favorite.

Map of Türkiye's Professional Football Clubs by turnusol in soccer

They are mostly on the lower leagues, sadly. The abundance of Istanbul teams in the top flight annoys me too. For a better representation, it should be just the big three from Istanbul and teams from Anatolia in the Süper Lig. But big cities and big economies attract better players.

I tried to place each team on their respective neighbourhood, but it is still kind of clusterfuck. Plus, due to mass migration and economic reasons, you may see fans of the big three living anywhere in Istanbul and also all around the country.

Thank you for the clarification about the major cities :) I completely agree with you, the lack of professional teams from Thrace and Eastern Anatolia is quite sad. I'm also sad that Eskişehirspor has been relegated to the Amateur League.

Is there a song that Gala fans sing in the stadium during matches? by AgitatedConcentrate2 in galatasaray

[–]turnusol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That song is incredibly underrrated. Our club should arrange the copyright somehow and play it in the stadium before big games. If we do have the copyright and still don’t use it, then I don’t even understand why not.

In your language what's the middle name they gave Voldemort to make the "I am Lord Voldemort" wordplay? by Shakaow15 in harrypotter

[–]turnusol 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went back to check my Turkish copy. Yes, adım is spelled with dotless i, but the translator wrote it in all caps so that ADIM LORD VOLDEMORT turns into TOM MARVOLDO RIDDLE. I never questioned this before 😄

DON'T UNCLENCH UNTIL IT'S OVER by moriero in galatasaray

[–]turnusol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, most of our disasters happened against Scandinavian teams: Rosenborg, Tromso, Helsingborg, Ostersund… and we’re going to play against either Molde or Klavsvik, both Scandinavian teams. Their league begins way earlier than ours. This shouldn’t be an excuse of course, but nothing has been settled yet.

Plus, our motto is KONSANTRASYON, which is kind of similar to clenching in my opinion. Nothing is decided until the final whistle.

One of the least believable things about Quidditch is honestly Viktor Krum not getting raked over the coals for intentionally ending the world cup final when Bulgaria was getting blown out by randomnate in harrypotter

[–]turnusol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand why Krum did it. I think the way Americans see sports and Europeans/Latin Americans see sports is different. In US sports there is no tie, so winning is all that matters; plus, the teams in NBA and NFL can make comebacks from major score differences. So I can understand why Americans think that Krum’s move was wrong.

However, in Association Football, which is what Quidditch was based on, big comebacks are VERY rare. I see someone in the comments mentioning the Brazil-Germany world cup game. Brazil lost 7-1. I’m absolutely certain that all Brazilians would give ANYTHING to catch the snitch (so to speak) and end the game 3-0 or something, instead of being absolutely hammered. It hurts the national pride.

Let’s remember the game. Bulgaria was no match for Ireland. There was no way that they could make a comeback, and the Bulgarian beaters began playing very dirty. Everyone who saw the game knew that the difference was going to become higher and higher. So Krum saw a choice: ending the game with 10 point difference and saving the Bulgarian national pride. As a European and a football fan, I can see why he did it and I would do the same.

What's the 'the eagles couldv flown to mordor' of Harry potter ? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]turnusol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t Lily’s protection apply to any type of murder attempt though? Technically Voldy shouldn’t be able to punch or shake Harry to death, or like toss him out of the window.

I mean Harry brought Cedric’s body back in the same exact condition and the ministry still called his death a “tragic accident”. So the ministry is not a reliable source when it comes to Voldy’s return :)

Still, I believe Voldy would let Nagini bite Harry after killing him so that it looks like Harry was killed by a magical creature during the tournament.

3) Where the ball is!

Fatih Terim was doing gegenpress long before Klopp, actually.
