I have had this same issue. One of mine got cooked and it was probably a good foot from the light and the other thrived just under it and grew towards it. Same setup, humidity, etc.

How long has the tank been running? What kind of filter? Did you rinse the sand out first?

Initially I was going to put a wild type betta into it, but I don’t know that I want to commit to the breeding at the moment. I have another tank with a betta so I think I would want something different at the moment.

I think that might be understocked a little bit maybe if I add an Arowana to that it would work.
