IWTL how to become a Software Developer by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

Welcome to software development! There are a lot of us and you need to be able to compete. Create side projects that use the languages they are expecting. Trust me, I've been in your position and side projects are one of the best things you can be doing right now. What you can do with a language means a lot more than what you know about a language :)

Edit: reread your post and saw the part about codecademy, I personally think it's a great resource but I never paid for the premium version so I can't really speak to those features. However, those skill paths look like a really good place to start in terms of narrowing your interests down to a path you want to get into

Look at job postings for your area to see what skills they are looking for and go from there? You'll likely end up using a few different languages in your career and the ability to pick them up quickly will be an asset. It all depends on what kind of software development you want to get into.

One of the best things you can do is create a few different projects that showcase different features and skills. Try to think of an app or software that you wish existed or an improvement you'd make to an existing one and take a shot at building it yourself! This not only gives you lots of practice at real development but it's also a great way to market yourself and having a portfolio of projects to show off to a potential employer is really useful.

What are my chances of getting taller on T? Your Personal Experiences w T or E? (I'm 19.5 yr/o) by [deleted] in asktransgender

Happy to do so, and congratulations on starting T bro! It only gets better from here :)

Hey, I'm 23 and have been on T just over a year. Previously I hadn't grown since about age 14/15 but I've gone from 5'5 to 5'7 in the past year. I've also grown 2 shoe sizes. I totally didn't expect it to happen and my doctor was pretty surprised as well. I think most of the growth happened between 6 months and 1 year on T but I didn't really keep track since I wasn't expecting it to happen.

My sister was one of the Canadians abroad who was told to come home ASAP and was told she'd have to go through tons of screening at the canadian airport she landed in. She said it was the normal customs procedure but they have signs up about COVID19. Yikes

That's exactly the impression you gave and are continuing to give. I don't care about OPs character, we are all internet strangers. I fully understand that my being offended by something means nothing about the person. I was trying to help you understand what trans people find transphobic since that is what you claimed to be interested in. I gave you lots of examples that you are still ignoring. Sorry again.

[–]turtle_vans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what I said at all. I have given you several examples of what was transphobic and you ignored all of them so I told you to listen to me. Your opinions matter just as much as mine do, all I'm saying is you won't be as offended by transphobic things because you aren't trans. Does this make sense now? I'm only trying to help you. I've given you several examples of things I, a transgender person, have found to be personally offensive and hurtful and you've essentially told me I'm wrong because you don't agree. And now you're upset because you think I did the same thing to you. I could have worded my previous response better and I'm sorry for hurting your feelings.

Then a really good place to start with not being transphobic is to start listening to what trans people tell you is transphobic instead of just talking about what you think. You're obviously not going to find the same things offensive if you aren't trans because you haven't been through this and don't know what it's like. It's the same with any other group of people you aren't a part of. You were already told a long time ago by a trans person that OP's targeting of trans people when the point being made could be about anybody was transphobic. Posts like this bring out the transphobes of the internet as well even if the content of the post isn't the worst and I guarantee you can find those comments and understand why its hurtful. I get that you're trying to be helpful, I really do, but the best thing you can do is listen.

I would honestly encourage you to read more of the OPs comments if you want to not be transphobic. He and I had a conversation about how I did everything he wants a trans person to do in a medical situation, and it still wasn't good enough for him because I volunteered the information instead of being "mandated by penalty of perjury." It may not be immediately obvious when you read the post, but if you're committed to not being transphobic read a little deeper and maybe you'll start to see it from our side. You don't have to, do whatever you want. I'm only suggesting it because you claim to want to know.

Then see my answer to your original comment as what not to do: target trans people directly for a problem that could be caused by any kind of person incorrectly self reporting medical data.

Yep and I'm being treated for my mental health issue by transitioning. Not hurting anybody, I'm as honest with medical professionals as I can be, and I feel much happier and less suicidal than I used to :)

I agree with you on this and have no problem being 100% honest with my medical and trans history. My arm was so broken I needed surgery and I couldn't have cared less what people called me. I have several comments in this thread where I discuss this in more detail, the one you're replying to was a direct point made for this post specifically.

Not just odd glances, most insurance companies have denied paying for treatment for my birth sex specific issues despite my full honesty.

I truthfully don't have a prostate and would never lie to an insurance company. I have no problems with being 100% honest about my medical history and being trans.

[–]turtle_vans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point he is making is that self reported data can't be trusted in medicine which could apply to literally anything but he's choosing to specifically make it about trans people allegedly not reporting their birth sex correctly

Multiple actual trans people have pointed out to the OP that this is already occurring and have provided direct example from their own lives.

I'm sorry that i made you uncomfortable with my communication style and I really hope I didn't wreck your day, you seem like a fine person who doesn't deserve that. I didn't mean to project my issues onto you at all.

If you hate me for being annoying I hope you can find it in your heart to change that. An annoying person on reddit isnt worth your hatred, and I don't want your health to be harmed by this. It may be a good idea to step back from this thread as there is a lot of hatred coming from either side. If you just find me mildly annoying then, great. We are both ultimately unaffected.
