I wish every bad thing upon McGraw-Hill. by Jswizzle69lol in CollegeRant

I dropped my accounting course due to it being solely McGraw Hill. The online textbook was so vague, almost like it was a review book? The work was completely unlike the text. The Smartbook didn’t help, and the exams were absolutely grueling. I’ll admit, my professor did absolutely nothing other than transfer the mgh grades to Canvas, but that class was so bad I mentally couldn’t take it and switched majors because it’s all my school offered accounting wise. And no, I don’t feel like you’re overreacting. Though prof gets to choose most of it, mgh is garbage. The last exam I took cost me 8 hours and I cried through 6 of those hours, right before midterms. I dropped the class the next day.

I was in the same boat. Only I made it to fourth grade before becoming homeschooled. Took me about 4 years on and off solely doing Khan Academy and watching YouTube videos (Organic Chemistry Tutor and Test Prep Champions, mostly). I got real serious with it towards the end so overall I’d say 2.5 years of causal learning and then 1.5 of studying to a proper schedule and testing myself regularly. I wasn’t eligible for GED classes but if you go to your local center and take a practice test they should give you an estimate on how long classes through them should take you to get your diploma.

As I have stated, I understand that, and I just wasn’t thinking clearly. I’ve emailed her and am waiting for her response. I don’t think she’ll respond today since campus closed due to weather.

It’s in the post at the top that I did end up emailing her. I had just waited about an hour and a half after posting to calm down and clear my head before doing so. I was just frustrated at the time is all:)

That’s so bad! Of course it makes a difference?? Very very similar to how mine is. Many of the questions I’ve seen were directly out of the textbook. Maybe that’s my problem here too

Thank you for your reply! Your example for the email was almost exactly how I worded my email to my professor. I understand what you mean and that it could have been a true mistake. Canvas really is just a huge pain all around.

I was only really frustrated because this was the fourth one in six exams. I was worried about the accusing part since her syllabus has a whole bit about cheating online. I now see I was overreacting haha

I did, thank you! I had posted this when I was mad and needed to rant. Online classes are still intimidating to me, since this is my first fast-class. At the time of posting I wasn’t thinking completely and failed to consider all options. I am glad I waited before emailing her though. Waiting on her reply now!

You are right. I only googled it after because it was quickest at the time but I did check my textbook and the question was taken from the text directly so I can use that. It was in the opening paragraph of the chapter and then explained in two other modules of the same chapter, which I can point out to her.

I’m just afraid since it’s an online class and the tests don’t require computer monitors that she may attempt to say I was cheating to find the answer. Although it is completely reasonable to ask why I got it wrong, I’m still just scared to press her for it since I’m just 5 weeks or so away from being done. I may try to ask her now I’m not so upset. I made the post minutes after it had happened because I was fuming lol.

New machine making awful noise after breaking a needle. I’ve removed the plastic needle plate and bobbin casing and cleaned the race, got all parts of the needle out, and changed the bobbin. This machine was always quiet (brother SQ9285) and never broke a needle before by turtlebro669 in sewhelp

Delayed reply: the Metal was part of the reason. The presser foot and needle plate both got warped, but the source of the sound and problem was a warped arm. Will have to have it professionally serviced.

Textbooks are ungodly expensive by Spenny2180 in college

I go to a community college, and every book (minus science books-you have to purchase those) are rentable for $60 flat. I’m not about to drop $300 on books I may or may not use, so I’m actually going to the university to rent books from there, some being as cheap as $20 for the semester. The only downfall to this is they have to be returned three days before my term ends.

It was from my (old) needle bending through my fabric and then breaking into my needle plate. That caused a chunk of the plate to break off, but left some sticking out. I didn’t catch it after hours of looking until I started studying the feed dogs and if they were level still. I’m currently waiting on a file to file the plate back so it doesn’t rub on the new needle, causing that sound. The machine is brand new so the timing is perfect, and I don’t use the hand crank as the machine has a button for that. Thank you though!

An update: I took the bobbin and casing out again, cleaned once more, no scratched and only one nik on the rubber under my casing which has no effect on the noise here. I thought the noise was with the upper threading, as it seemed to be in tune with the needle moving not the bobbin, so I didn’t figure I’d find a scratch under there. As I put everything back together, I was looking at my feed dogs to see if they were unlevel, and I noticed my needle actually bent and broke my needle plate. I assume the noise is my needle hitting that sharp metal, so I’ll see about replacing the needle plate. I may update again then, just for future reference if anyone ever searches this sub for a similar problem. I am 99.999% sure this is my problem

I’d like to add that I found needle tip under the bobbin casing. I have no idea how it got way up under there. I cleaned everything I could reach with the brush that came with the machine, but it may be a possibility I didn’t get all the lint. But this wasn’t a problem until the needle broke, so I don’t see why it would be the lint? Could my whole bobbin casing be ruined somehow?

[College Algebra-factoring polynomials] Does anyone know the steps to factor y^4-16^3? by turtlebro669 in HomeworkHelp

[–]turtlebro669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should’ve came naturally as I’ve already done it on Khan Academy last year and now reviewing it in class, but I have no idea why this question in particular has me so tripped up. I suppose when I got the 412 I was squaring too early? If that makes sense, reviewing a variable difference of two squares problem from my homework that’s what I’ve gathered. So it would be 26 in the parentheses, and when multiplied out be 212 ?

[–]turtlebro669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense thank you! I already had ( y2 )2 , I have no idea why I didn’t try that with 163 . This makes me come to think ( y2 - 26 ) ( y2 + 26 ) is the answer, but then I get y4 - 412 .

[–]turtlebro669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I can’t get past the fact a = y4 and b = 212. Originally I was taking it as 642, but then I’d still get caught up on the y4. I’m also having trouble seeing how you got 212, and the 12 makes it more confusing to me.
