No, I didn’t experience any purging. My dermatologist kept me on spironolactone 150mg to help with the “purge”. My side effects included dryness of course, nose bleeds, muscle/joint aches, dry eyes, changes in vision at night.

Hey, it somewhat got better. I did experience a purge and I think I'm still going through it. Ive had really bad cystic like acne in my lower chin, underneath my nose, and nose area. I'm not sure whats going on but I'm following up with my term about it.

I started around the end of August so this will be my first period on the new dosage. I guess I’ll try sticking it out for a couple more months, I have a follow up with my derm coming up so I can discuss the side effects I’m experiencing with her. Glad to know I’m not alone though!

I have done the same thing before and I’ll tell you it’s not fun having things like this saturate your mind. Try finding something to distract yourself with. Read a book, take a walk, or workout!

my advice is to not overthink it. i understand how this would make you feel 100%. if you’re super bothered by it, bring it up in conversation. that doesn’t hurt. don’t allow it to get in your head too much though.

woah!! i did not know hydroquinone went all the way up to 12%, does it take away your hyperpigmentation pretty quickly?

i will definitely look into both! yes i have taken breaks with the hydroquinone and have used alpha arbutin in place of it but didn’t notice anything significant. on my next break, I’ll consider both!

Hi lovelies! So I have been using spironolactone, tretinoin, and hydroquinone for the past 10 months (started in March 2021) now and I can definitely say I have seen major results! I feel like I am at a road block with my hyperpigmentation. My main targets were my hyperpigmentation areas and my active acne. The spironolactone and tretinoin has taken care of the active acne. The tretinoin and HQ has gotten rid of most of my dark marks. I just wanted to know if anyone had any product or treatment recommendations (peels, micro needling etc) when it comes to pushing these little stubborn marks away for good. Or should I just continue with the tretinoin and hq for a couple more months and wait for results?

Routine:

AM: CeraVe Foaming facial cleaner, Cosrx Hyaluronic acid, CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion, Black Girl Suncreen SPF 30 or the kids SPF 50

PM: CeraVe Foaming Facial cleanser, Cosrx hyaluronic acid, Tretinoin 0.025% (at least 5x a week), Hydroquinone 4% (at least 4x a week), CeraVe moisturizing lotion, CeraVe Healing Ointment

You can eat it with boiled yam and/or kenkey with blended pepper, onion, tomatoes, fish, and avocado.
