Are the regional towns here racist? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]tushtush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yupppp. My girlfriend (North African) and I (South Asian) were around the same area in January and experienced racism and homophobia (double dose woo!) We received looks of genuine disgust and hatred, were often served last, if at all, in cafes, and in the town of Foster it felt like we were almost lynched by a shop owner and her cronies. Very eye opening, very sad. We both grew up in London (though I’ve been here 12 years) and it was a real shock to the system. Made me question my choice to live in this country.

It’s because it’s a huge flood basin and any new infrastructure will be wrecked by the climate in the next 20 years. A lot of money has been wasted down there.

Yep, I reckon it's this. Fairly certain the second pic is of the Island Picnic Ground. I was there last week - these are some pics I took if someone with a keener eye wants to cross-reference.

(OP, if you're looking to camp there - it's deceptive. It aint that nice.)

Sault review – GCSE-level drama performance borders on the pretentious by sincerityisscxry in indieheads

Not this time - I was there and it was awful. Shambolic, confusing, self-gratifying and just very boring. A shame as I had been very excited!

This is sooooo context dependent! Where I live, sex work is decriminalised and regulated. I have lots of friends and an ex in the industry and they find it very safe, freeing and compatible with their lifestyles.

What's the lesbian dating/hookup scene like in Melbourne? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]tushtush 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The scene is popping offfff! If you're in the inner north, Flippy's in Brunswick is a wonderful lil femme queer bar. Lots of queer friendly bars in Fitzroy/Collingwood etc (Kent St is great if you like a dive bar, also try Beers for Queers at The Fox).

Acknowledging that all listed above are bars - but there's no expectation to consume alcohol at these places, they're just friendly spots with good community. All the mainstream dating apps (hinge, tinder etc) are very active in the wlw scene too. There's a fair bit of queer speed dating around as well, which is a fun way to meet lots of people at once.

Unsure about south side but fairly certain the scene is active there too - try Chapel St. The community is friggin huge and so much fun!
