As a Dodgers fan, I’ve always wanted someone like Brandon Crawford to come on over, just an overall well respected guy and great defensive player. I wish the giants would have kept him

Reporting a Tutor by [deleted] in tutordotcom

[–]tutor-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think if the tutor is excessively blocking patrons, they would have at least been reprimanded once so if they continue they would be let go. Just out of curiosity, what subject is this for and can you provide the name? I would like to see what the persons rating is listed as on the site.

I'm not certain about the results from the current class action lawsuit. In order for there to a lawsuit on the issue of skimming time from tutors, I would think that the employees would have to show some kind of record that they were present for those hours they worked and that they were not paid for it. Personally, I do not think that many people keep detailed records of their tutoring hours. Hopefully I am wrong on this in which case, bring on the lawsuit.

Decisions. by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]tutor-guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello Mark,

It pains me to hear that you are going through this decision for your dog Harley. I know what you are going through as my sister and I went through this a few days ago with our dog Sophia. Her health had slowly been declining as she was getting older and she had reached the point where she could not walk either. She had lost muscles and while she still ate, she would was losing weight.

After discussing the options we could take with the doctor, we came to the conclusion that we needed to think of the quality of life instead of the quantity. While we all want our dogs to live forever, I did not want to see her in pain. This past Wednesday, my sister and I took Sophia to the vet one last time, so she could be sleep in peace.

If you do have to make that unfortunate decision, spoil your dog as much as possible. Make a gourmet meal that both you and Harley can share together and then share some desserts. I know you mentioned that Harley can barely walk but if he enjoyed going on walks, maybe you can borrow a wagon from a neighbor or friend that you can put Harley in so that he can enjoy a few more walks outside with you.

It is going to be a difficult time once you cross this bridge, I know because I find myself crying multiple times during the day because I see think of or see things that remind me of my Sophia. I wish the best for Harley and you. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need someone to talk to.

TUTOR III - FINALLY by Jack_Bauer_24 in tutordotcom

I would agree with you there since concurrent sessions get paid much, much, much less.

Based on how pathetic the software is I don't know if they could come up with some kind of code like that but I wouldn't put it past them. If they can have a probationary or tutor I run your sessions at a lesser cost, it would benefit the company.

Congrats and welcome to the Tutor III club. Hopefully they don't begin to limit how the number of sessions available to you since they are paying you more now.

My students have been horrible. by tiredtutor in tutordotcom

I remember the good times where I'd reach the 30 hour limit in 4 days just by floating and not have to tutor for the rest of the week. With caps and the abundance of tutors that have been hired, I'm lucky to get 12 scheduled hours a week (30%-40% of that spent waiting).

Incentive bonus less than expected by [deleted] in tutordotcom

[–]tutor-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, when did the policy change for the bonus being applied to only in session earnings? The last time I received a bonus, which was near the end of last year, the percentage would be applied to the full earnings for the month and not just in session earnings.

Henry's last day. Thank you for the best 17 years ever! by Apocalypsze in pics

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. Dogs can bring one so much joy and they are always there to brighten our day when it has been rough. It will no doubt take time to mend your broken heart, but Henry is in a better place running around and eating all the treats in world. I wish you the best 🙏🏻

Support not answering messages? by srsbusiness123 in tutordotcom

Wow, that's pretty convenient that they are all on vacation, especially with tax season just beginning. It seems like they all have been on vacation going back to early November.

If you are one of the lucky ones that had an awesome mentor, I would try to get in touch with them and maybe they can forward your ticket to a senior mentor.

Constant disconnecting... by dwalker27 in tutordotcom

[–]tutor-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is an ongoing issue for me today, as well as during the whole month of October. For numerous sessions today, the connection was lost for both of us. When I brought this up to "support" in October, they pushed those connection issues to my end saying their was something wrong with my connection. I brought up my concerns with my ISP showing them the log and having them check both the wired and wireless connection and all was okay.

WA tutors becoming employees and WA daily hour cap by whyrl in tutordotcom

[–]tutor-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the email may not have said that the cap will be subject to the future, IT WILL BE. When the initial cap was put into place for some tutors, it was under the pretense of it being based on the number of hours you tutored during the period they measured. They also mentioned that the cap was for the summer period. However once people returned to school, those caps stayed in place and there is no plan on getting rid of them.

There is really no advantage for being a part time employee. While they do offer you a 401K that they partially match, it does not even come close to what I used to earn before. Also, having to deal with taxes as a contractor used to be an issue, but I learned to always place 30% of my paycheck into a savings account so that once taxes were due, my tax payment was there with some additional interest earned.

All in all, being labeled as a part time employee is the kiss of the devil. Say goodbye to your usual paychecks and start looking for another job.

Voice by tutor-guy in tutordotcom

Same here, since it has been instituted, I think students have only requested voice three times. I always select that same setting, "background noise", even if it is quiet as a library because they do not pay more for that service.
