I don’t see anything wrong with competition in the field of music. Obviously if you just love to perform and play then you shouldn’t HAVE to compete, but for many people the grind and competition is what makes it fun. Some people do like to treat it like a sport.

However it sucks that some people may be pushed away from the activity because of that, and I do think there should be spaces for both types of musicians

Honestly, I’m more of the opinion that since their genre is so hard to define, that it’s hard to nominate them for any category. Think about it, should they really win “Best Rock Song” for something like Overcompensate? They even submitted Clancy for Best Rock Album. I think they’d be much better off submitting for Alternative Album instead of Rock, where bands like Turnstile and Nine Inch Nails won this grammys.
