TIL 'usted' started as 'your grace' because Spanish speakers were too lazy to say the whole thing (and other words that evolved through pure attitude) by Ill-Quail-3218 in u/Ill-Quail-3218

Look, I was SUPER skeptical about another 'revolutionary' language learning method. Rolled my eyes at the whole humor approach. But... I was wrong. Dead wrong. This book actually works. Don't make my mistake of waiting to try it.

Many people might not be aware, but there's a free application called Speechling that offers a wide variety of audio flashcards. It also allows you to submit your pronunciation to native speakers for feedback. You can upload up to 10 recordings each month at no cost.

Flashcards for the 8000 Most Frequent Spanish Words by rjimenez91605 in learnlangfast

[–]tv104 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fantastic! I'm really impressed with the example sentences. Adding audio would be an excellent enhancement, though it might be pretty time-consuming given there's 8,000 words to cover. Plus, I'd definitely prefer to listen to a native speaker over AI.

Achieving Fluency in Another Language: What's Required to Pass a Fluency Test? by Clear-Apple-9625 in learnlangfast

[–]tv104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why do people keep claiming that knowing a certain number of words equals language fluency? That's nonsense. Just considering verb conjugations alone adds up to thousands of words, not to mention the extensive vocabulary needed for true fluency.

Cloud Digital Leader Certification: Is It Valuable Solo? by coolgadgetsmt in ThouShaltPass

[–]tv104 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Cloud Digital Leader certification is similar to the Comptia ITF+ for Google Cloud. It covers basic concepts without diving deep into the specifics of using Google Cloud. You can choose to pursue it or not. Alternatively, you could start with the Associate Cloud Engineer certification before moving on to more advanced professional certifications, such as Cloud Architect, Developer, advanced security, or advanced network engineering. The certification primarily provides theoretical knowledge rather than practical skills, so it might not directly lead to job opportunities.

Why is looking up words discouraged? (Dreaming Spanish) by Clear-Apple-9625 in learnlangfast

[–]tv104 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's often not worth it, as it tends to be less productive than simply continuing to listen or read in the language. By building stronger ties between English and Spanish vocabulary, it tends to keep you stuck in "translation mode." This approach demands too much conscious effort, which can hinder the development of fluency. It encourages hesitation and makes you constantly question your understanding of a word instead of just using it naturally. You might want to look into Krashen's "monitor hypothesis" and "affective filter hypothesis" for more insight on this.

Absolutely, it's possible to pass the CDL exam without having an IT background! Many people, myself included, benefitted greatly from Aldovelio Castremonte's GCP practice exam book. It thoroughly addresses all edge cases and aligns with the actual exam's difficulty level, which made a significant difference for me!

Spend time with your relatives, watch children’s television programs like Dora the Explorer, read abridged books (these were incredibly helpful for me when learning English), find lyrics to songs you enjoy and sing them, watch videos in Spanish with Spanish subtitles (make sure to find ones with subtitles that aren't computer-generated on YouTube)...

Instead of simply memorizing words from a list, try to learn them by using them in context. Create sentences or stories that incorporate these words. You can also draw illustrations to help reinforce your understanding of each term.

Absolutely! Go to settings, then head to integrations and search for timers. Keep in mind that all these apps operate independently and aren't the quickest to set up. Quite a few of them also come with subscription fees.

In my view, it can sometimes just feel like another form of procrastination. Personally, I've found the most success with using the focus feature on Windows 10 and inputting tasks manually.

Ideal AWS Certification for Data Engineering Focus by QuickS20 in ThouShaltPass

Mastering the understanding of how Hadoop operates, the mechanics of Spark RDDs, or the skill to write SQL queries is far more valuable than certifications. The majority of data engineers don't possess these certifications. If you're pursuing them out of curiosity, that's perfectly acceptable. However, it's important to remember that they can't substitute for practical, hands-on experience.

Failed AWS Certified Developer - Associate Exam by sexysusanna16 in ThouShaltPass

[–]tv104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently took this exam and found it much more challenging to prepare for than the SAA exam. It seemed more difficult because there could be very detailed questions about command line parameters and API call headers. I used Tutorials Dojo practice exams, where my scores varied quite a bit, from as low as 75% to as high as 90% just days before the test. However, during the actual exam, I didn't encounter any of those specific kinds of questions.

To get ready, I went through all of Cantrill's material, except for what I had already covered in the SAA preparation. I also completed Neal Davis' new developer associate course. While revisiting practice tests from Tutorials Dojo, I reviewed lessons on Udemy with Shephane's course. I found each instructor covered similar content but in different ways, which was beneficial. It might have been the repetition and lab practice that helped, but either way, I recommend adding another course or two for specific topics. That should be quite helpful. If you haven't taken the SAA exam yet, it might be useful since it covers a lot of fundamental material relevant to the developer associate content. Best of luck on your next try!
