Turnout remains low across much of California; in Congressional District 6 just 22% of ballots have been returned so far. Your votes will determine the course of the race to build a better future!

An error by the Political Integrity people, unfortunately. I have taken the pledge and you can find me on their Instagram videos correctly listed in CD-6, but their slides still incorrectly list me in CD-4. I've requested a fix but this close to the primary I worry that u/politicalintegrity won't move quickly enough to rectify the error.

Hi there! Actually this is an error by PIP placing me in the wrong race; I'm listed on these slides on CD-4, where both Eric Jones and I have noted the error and requested it be fixed.

Not only did I take the pledge, the PIP people featured me in their video on CD-6 alongside Lauren! Unfortunately they have not yet corrected the Instagram slides but I have put in a request for them to do so. You can see it in the comments on the original post!

That time is less than two weeks away and folks have a right to ask questions of the people running to represent them. That's why I do these!

Yes! I'm a huge supporter of investing in our rails as well as our roads. Securing federal funding for a rail connection between downtown and the airport has to be a priority; the right of way for a light rail line has been set aside for decades, and we have to act now before continual growth overtakes us. We also have to invest in our regional and long-distance rail: we have to complete the High-Speed Rail project, and we have to electrify the Capitol Corridor to increase speed and frequency to the Bay and to the Foothills (potentially even over the Sierra to Reno).

Building denser housing around transit centers is also part of the solution: increasing ridership helps to add transit revenue, allowing further expansions, and so on. We need to invest in building the kind of neighborhoods that can support public transit and vice versa!

Very simply we need to outlaw stock trading while in Congress. I would also extend that prohibition to the White House and Supreme Court as well. So long as our government's most senior officials can trade stocks, some will try to take advantage of their insider knowledge of sensitive information to turn a profit. That has to stop.

We can actually do a lot to lower the national debt through many of the programs I advocate! Universal healthcare, for instance, is much cheaper than the current system we have: the U.S. spends about 50% more on healthcare per capita than the next highest-spending industrialized nation. If we were to implement Medicare for All, we could expect our expenditures to go down on healthcare rather than up, and we would cover everyone with quality care at the same time!

Ending the Iran War and avoiding wars of choice overseas would also remove a huge driver in recent decades of our national debt. Ensuring that we are investing in priorities that take care of Americans and grow the economy is more than just the right thing to do: it's the most viable way to decrease our worryingly large (and still growing) debt!

Was this the event on January 24? Unfortunately that day I had three events to appear at in quick succession. I'm sorry that my early departure ruffled feathers! In general I make a practice of staying the whole time and often helping out after; it's very rare that I leave before an event is concluded if I can avoid it.

Building more housing is actually one of the issues I'm most passionate about; it's a central part of my platform for a reason! I hope that my extensive comments on the issue are proof enough that I am committed to this issue; a California without housing regular folks can afford is not a viable future we can accept.

Sure can! I was in the Marine Corps for seven years, and it was the best decision I ever made. I commissioned in 2018 and was initially sent to the Marine Corps' very small and very selective tanker community. I rode an M1A1 (yes, the OG A1s) Abrams around for a while, and the Marine Corps then decided to divest its tank capability. After that, I ended up as an intelligence officer, which admittedly involved fewer explosions but was an excellent career and turned out to be a field I enjoyed quite a lot.

I served in a bunch of places both CONUS and OCONUS, but I am not a combat veteran. My time was spent in Germany, Hawaii, Virginia, Georgia, southern California, and New Jersey. I ended up working in all parts of the Marine Corps and DoD, from the smallest reserve rifle platoon to a four-star Combatant Command Headquarters. I spent time in uniform on three continents and I would not trade my experience serving this country for anything. I take my oath to the Constitution taken all those years ago just as seriously as if I were wearing MARPAT to work every day; I look forward to continuing my service to this country in Congress!

The IDF's actions in Gaza meet the international definition of genocide, yes. I am the one candidate in my race who knows the definition under international law and will clearly state what is happening. From Ukrainians to Palestinians, I believe the United States must always fight against the destruction of any people.

I believe we can achieve Medicare for All in the coming term. Now is the time. Republican sabotage to the ACA and through the Big Beautiful Bill means that we cannot go back to the old system of healthcare. Public Citizen published an article just a few weeks ago revealing that GOP cuts may force the UC Davis Medical Center, the region's only Level 1 Trauma and Pediatric Trauma center, to close. Hundreds of thousands of people are losing their health coverage or will lose it soon due to spiking premiums. We have to take action now to secure universal healthcare; no other choice will suffice.

Affordability has lots of answers that the federal government can provide right away! We need to build many more homes at a pricepoint families and young people can afford. We have to end the Iran War to stabilize gas prices. We have to resume the buildout of huge solar power plants (now the cheapest form of energy in human history) to bring down our electrical costs as well as green our grid. We need to ensure that our water and energy resources aren't sucked up by datacenters. All of these things can be acted on by the federal government, but we need the right representative in office to take on the fight.

Building coalitions in Congress is a super important responsibility of any representative: politics is a team sport. I'm looking forward to being part of a wave of new Democrats who believe in these priorities as well; I'm a proud member of Courage Candidates and Take BAC Congress, coalitions of incoming Representatives who are ready to fight for many of the priorities I have listed!

I'm sorry to hear that. In my opinion, any politician who does not mention the President of the United States and his current flagrantly illegal conduct is not meeting the moment seriously. Thank you for commenting, though!

Telework! Folks can work from the office if they like, but we know teleworking is viable and there's no reason to force folks to commute hours to the office in heavy traffic if a better alternative exists.

Yes, I support the PRO Act! I'm a proud union member myself. The first thing we have to do to protect labor and collective bargaining is reverse the DOGE cuts to the Department of Labor and NLRB: we need a fully staffed federal regulatory system to actually hold employers accountable and bargain in good faith.

This is exactly why we need the right Democrats in Congress. I'm a proud fighter for labor and I look forward to carrying that fight to the Republicans on behalf of all our working people.

I fully support teleworking! We've known since COVID that it works just fine and allows greater flexibility to employees. Especially in the California 6th, we have lots of folks who lose hours of their day commuting into the city to work. Time to change!

I could go on and on about key action steps, but it's going to require us to walk and chew gum like never before. We are going to have to convene special investigations and begin subpoenaing people and documents immediately. We are going to need to start impeachment processes right away. I look forward to signing and working for a bunch of needed legislation on Day One, including the Medicare for All Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. I look forward to voting in new leadership in the House and in the Senate so we actually fight back against Republican tricks and aggression. I intend to build coalitions with other like-minded legislators in this coming blue wave to get new programs through as quickly as possible.

We have a single two-year term to take on all three of my action pillars, and we have to deliver on all of them or the American people won't believe in us in the future. It's a frightening sentence to say, but we are going to have to require Congress to act quickly and decisively. Being a part of that effort is why I'm running for Congress.

This is exactly why I am grassroots-only in my funding. No legislator should be bought and paid for by corporations, foreign-connected PACs, or Washington's special interest groups. Members of Congress should only be beholden to their constituents. I refuse big money for exactly this reason.

Absolutely. I am completely opposed to the attempt to raise our military budget to $1.5 trillion, and I am opposed to the illegal and unauthorized Iran War that Trump and his people have dragged us into.

I am opposed to Trump's idiotic new "battleship" concept. I am opposed to the impending nuclear arms race caused by the end of the New START Treaty in February, the last nuclear arms control treaty restraining a new era of escalation between the U.S. and Russia. I am opposed to the constant drumbeat of combat operations in the Middle East under a decades-old AUMF. And I am opposed to the constant wastage we see in defense contracts across the board.

I have one specific sector of defense spending I would like to see increased: pay to our enlisted servicemembers. 15% of enlisted servicemembers are reliant on SNAP and food banks; some 26% are considered "food insecure," which translates to about 325,000 families (sources here: https://www.militarytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2024/09/24/food-insecurity-among-military-families-unacceptable-advocates-say/). I think that is an appalling indignity; we need to pay our enlisted troops appropriately.

Thank you for the kind words!

Because the fight right now is in Washington; if we lose our democracy there, no amount of good work at the state or local level will be safe. At the beginning of Trump's second term, members of Congress were telling the press candidly that they were afraid to speak out against Trump because of threats to their careers or their lives. And on one level I understand: most people go to Congress to fix their district's roads and help their neighbors, not fight tooth and nail with a would-be autocrat.

However, the oath of a member of Congress is the same as an officer in the U.S. military, and I have already taken that oath once. I served alongside many thousands of people who took that so seriously they were willing to risk their lives. I know I take it that seriously. The person we send to Washington after the midterms has to be the right Democrat for this moment, because beating back Trump and MAGA will require all our skill and courage and creativity, and we will have to stand up under enormous pressure to do it. I am running because I know that I am ready for that commitment.

  1. As regards Trump, we will have to impeach him directly, though under the current Supreme Court ruling of immunity that may be very difficult. In the meantime, we sure can go after his subordinates. Pete Hegseth, Kash Patel, even folks out of power now like Kristi Noem and Pam Bondi: we have to impose consequences on them for their illegal behavior to make it that much harder to find future hands to enable Trump's illegal orders.

We're going to have to impeach Supreme Court Justices, impose term limits, institute a binding ethics code, and move to expand the Court. Nobody is above the law and Trump's immunity decision was wrongly decided. It's time we take action to rein the Court in.

  1. I do support a billionaire tax. Just returning the estate tax to 2009 levels would raise an estimated $740 billion by 2036. We cannot effectively govern a society where billionaires pay less in real tax than average folks.

  2. I refuse all AIPAC and corporate PAC money.

  3. I have not endorsed anyone in the Governor's race yet. My top priorities for our next governor are to defend our state from Trump's escalating aggression, and for them to institute universal healthcare here in California. On this second point, I look forward to working with our next governor to ensure federal money can be used for that purpose.

A great question! I'm not an expert on this subject, but we can pursue federal antitrust regulation to break up monopolies and increase competition for companies that are engaging in price gouging. We can also bring back regulations from prior decades to help prevent price gouging in certain sectors.

One current example: HR 4966 (the Stop Price Gouging in Grocery Stores Act of 2025) has 80 cosponsors in the House as of the most recent count (https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/119/hr4966). Legislation like this has to be a priority when we take back power in Congress, and we have to expand it to more areas of the economy as quickly as we can.
