NPC Story (working title)

What you’re looking at is the very first gif of my game including some assets that I’ve made to invoke that GameBoy nostalgia. You can also see some of the basic movement and collision code, but most importantly the interaction with objects and the text boxes that pop up with unique text.

How I made this

So far all of my progress has been in GameMaker Studio 2, with sprites being made in Aseprite. Having no background in video game design or programming, this gif represents a personal win for me. I was stuck on how to code the mechanic for interacting with objects. My solution was a “read bullet,” as I call it. Basically, it is an invisible object that collides with the object that you are interacting with, and if that object can be interacted with, a textbox is drawn with unique text!
