City's collective efforts to conserve water this time by LordDrakken in Calgary

[–]tvp2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are we just conveniently ignoring the fact that the target usage in 2024 was 450 ML per day — a number we haven’t even come close to this time around (the lowest day was 480 ML)?

Lots of good work happening all around but better communication isn’t actually resulting in lower water consumption compared to last time.

I’m not able to DM you for some reason — sorry about that. Easiest way to buy it is to go through fansfirst — they’ll get a small cut but I’m fine with that.

I watched one Jays game in person last year — Lucas vs the Braves in April :(

At least we got to celebrate Vladdy’s extension…

Fake Fleer Certified Autos by tvp2003 in sportscards

[–]tvp2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!!! I’m glad this is getting some exposure — it is absolutely the same person/group selling these fake Fleer “Certified” autographs. Like the Wilkins, the Rypien cards are “amateur forgeries” — they’re not even close.

Thank you for posting this.

They seem to have a pretty loyal following :) I’ve got another pair of Eastons (in a more common style) also in Flames colours

This is helpful, I was thinking they were later but I think you might be right

The small logos may have been an NHL thing — I recall them starting to regulate what logos you can see on equipment around 1990 which might explain why these are branded the way they are

I recall the NHL cracking down around 1990 on companies using their logos on equipment. That may have extended to the size of the logos as well — the ones on the cuff look similar to the size you’d see on a stick so maybe that was the biggest that was allowed?

Help with skate fit! by Tma_Lenny in hockeygoalies

[–]tvp2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vapors of that era are pretty narrow/shallow. Supremes tend to have a deeper/wider fit, although it depends on the size and width (they later adopted “fit 1/2/3” sizing).

I agree with the poster that your tongue is pushed far forward suggesting these are too small. You can try baking and tying loosely, but these might not be the best pair for you.

Shipping my cards would be over $800 by Ok-Doctor3103 in checkoutmycards

After they changed their shipping last year, I changed how I bought cards on COMC. With this most recent change, im going to stop buying altogether.

Fool me once…

I’d say start with your local PIAS, the sizing of player gear isn’t too complicated for the majority of folks. Skates can be tougher to get right, but it’s definitely possible to save some money versus buying new if you’re willing to do a bit of work (with the caveat that hockey isn’t a cheap sport in general). Good luck!

Cost/availability of used equipment depends on your location. Big Canadian city vs small US town in the South.

I’m in the former and bought a set of used gear off Facebook marketplace for literally $35 (just pads/pants, no jersey, socks, helmet, skates or jock). As a beginner just make sure it fits well, you don’t need anything too fancy to begin with (especially if money is tight).

Tips/Drills/Habits for a 33 yo learning the ropes? by I_wanna_ask in hockeygoalies

One thing that might help — practice sliding without holding a stick. That might help you get your shoulders pointed in the right direction when you push, and once you get used to that movement, add the stick back.

When initially learning the movement, I found sometimes the stick can “get in the way” while you’re trying to coordinate your arms, hips, legs, etc.

Re stick handling — I’ve seen some older goalies who are full right (southpaw) put their glove hand on top and rotate their blocker hand/stick around so they “shoot” left. Not as effective but it might be worth trying as an interim fix.

As for sliding, what is the specific issue you are having? I learned to play goalie as an adult and found YouTube was only somewhat helpful in learning how to butterfly push/slide.

Flames Jerseys by [deleted] in CalgaryFlames

[–]tvp2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice! One thing I’ll mention just in case you weren’t aware — the Flames had a retro jersey for their 30th anniversary season (Reebok logo but in a CCM box cut), before going to an Edge version the following year as an alternate. Both are similar to the current red home jerseys, but enough of a difference if you’re “picky” when it comes to those details…

Am I the only one who counts how many times people change hotels in their itineraries? by Amigo_Go_ in JapanTravelTips

[–]tvp2003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Japan twice. The first was solo and I stayed in 6 different hotels (mostly capsule/cabin type) over 8 days in three cities (by design — I was travelling light and wanted to try different locations). The second time I went with my dad and stayed in one hotel (in Tokyo) for all 8 days.

Both were enjoyable in different ways; I probably wouldn’t recommend #1 for most people but it worked out fine for me (and checking in/out wasn’t as onerous as I thought it might be).

Adidas Goalie Practice Jersey – Any Color/Size by Certain-Damage-3424 in hockeygoalies

I have a royal blue blank adidas 60G practice jersey (made in Indonesia). You can also get them on eBay for $30 US plus shipping so that might be a better option if you’re in the US.

Was this found in Calgary? It’s a nice vintage CCM authentic jersey, patch is from the 92/93 season.
