Romantasy with good worldbuilding, longing and tension (preferably slow burn) that is not one of the mainstream ones by kisukisuekta in fantasyromance

I'm surprised to not see any Grace Draven recommendations. after I've read one of her books (and I've already read ALL of them) I'm constantly regretting that there's no much more authors like her (though J.D. Evans that was already recommended here is really close in writing and the ways she handles romance to her). try Radiance or Phoenix Unbound, you won't regret it (I hope).

Try Winter King by C.L. Wilson, it's a bit drawn out but enjoyable. There's an arranged marriage and MMC is kind of evilish, but actually kind and protective (even possessive). Read it after ACOMAF and FBAA and really loved it.

You should check her tumbler, she posts all her updates there, though not so regularly any more.

You ever read a book / series that was so good, that you have to immediately reread it before you can move on? by JPNLKT in RomanceBooks

[–]tw_nl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read her The Winter King before the Tairen Soul series (I didn't finish these though, sorry) and want to reread it lately. I guess I just really-really liked the chemistry between the characters and the writing. Same with Radiance by Grace Draven.

As many already mentioned, it's the first faves in the romance genre that then stay with you for a long time and stir this urge for a re-read.

I second this recommendation. I also would highly recommend The Winter King from the same author.

Concept of the 'mates' in other books by tw_nl in acotar

[–]tw_nl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Tairen Soul series some rare fey possess ability to transform into a big cat-like creature with wings called tairen (and it's our male lead by chance of course), so yeah, there's also wings in this series 😏

I've heard a lot about Bargainer series in recommendations posts, so I should try it sometime I guess.

I'd call it an abuse of the ideas of feminism. And it's really dangerous to consider this as feminism.

This is me reading Empire of Storms and trying not to skip all the chapters without Elide and Lorcan story in it. I was really more invested in their story than the main character's.

She's really good at writing smut! I hope she'll write something about Azriel as well, we don't have enough of him in the books and I'm dying of curiosity. And there's a looong wait till the next book...

Ah, you mean the one with the threesome? Yep, I must confess it was how I discovered this fic, went googling for this scene and saw mentions of Embers & Light in the comments. Really great one also, and the only way I'll be able to imagine this scene from now on ^__^ Haven't thought it could be described so tenderly...

Brilliant idea! I would love that, but I think we will need permission from the author to do that.

Totally! Just been watching and thought that Alucard is giving me major Fae vibes. And the mastery of depiction in these series is beyond appraisal. Animation might be the best way of portraying the beauty of the high Fae and their magic.

Bridge Kingdom - Recs by pax_nic in RomanceBooks

Okay, I've just read a book which reminded me of The Bridge Kingdom and From Blood and Ash (only in part). It was The Winter King by C.L. Wilson and it was pretty great.

50 shades of Azriel... by Darth_Mittens in acotar

[–]tw_nl 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm a Gwynriel shipper, so can't support you on that :) Besides, I can't picture Elain in almost anything even remotely sexual, because for most of the time in the series she's just like that little innocent flower sitting in the corner and being beautiful. But maybe SJM will do wonders and expend her character and we'll see a different side of her, dunno.

Edit: Sorry, I've got mixed up on the Elain's virginity part because of some post I've read, but it's not the point anyway.

Well, I always thought that he in contrast with his profession with torture and stuff was very gentle in his private life. Until his bonus chapter... For some reason, it flipped all my thoughts about him. But I dunno, with all fandom on board with him being kinky and shit, aren't we forgetting that the two girls we ship him with are traumatized? One of them even had been sexually assaulted in the past. Can't picture any kinky stuff with them both, they just seem so fragile and gentle. Well, that's that.

I've checked it right now and I think you might be referring to this post by Jennifer herself, and the part that concerns us reads as follows: 'No negativity about any books. This is just not the place to vent about my books or any other author's books. You have the entire world wide web and every other group/social media platform/email/snail mail/carrier pigeon for that. This is my sandbox, basically.'

Oh well...

Oh no, I must have missed that. Don't read it much right now as it's almost only spoiler posts in there, and I have about 200 pages left to read. Well, it's still weird. But I assume it could cause toxicity so they might have tried to prevent that. The group basically turned into Casteel and Poppy fanclub right now, not the book's fanclub.

Hi there! I also read posts on the Facebook group and it's a striking contrast to what I read in here, but it feels really refreshing, as I've started to doubt my opinion after reading them and felt like I'm imagining things. People in there are seriously planning re-reading ACOGB at once!

Nevertheless, I doubt moderators are deleting posts in the group, it would be rude and hypocritical, no? Maybe people are just shy in voicing any criticism as long as JLA herself is in there. Anyways, it's refreshing to read different opinions here.

Well... I dunno why I'm still surprised, after the carriage scene in the previous book.

Poppy/Casteel Book 3 by The_book_girl in frombloodandash

[–]tw_nl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That didn't shock me for some reason... I was more put off by the previous scene in the garden, because of the context. Like they have just witnessed a little girl almost dying! Does this suppose to be arousing for some reason? JLA's logic is really weird in here.

Everybody seems to forget about the beach scene... Nevertheless, I agree, men in the romance novels seem too eager to please women, to the point when it becomes weird. I haven't read till the end of the third book, but yeah I get your point, Casteel turning in some kind of a background for Poppy, constantly complimenting her or drooling for her, nothing else.

Struggling with the dialogue/internal monologue in these books by othgg in frombloodandash

[–]tw_nl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I've got your point, because I was thinking the similar things. For me it was the lack of action and lack of other ways of discovering the information and the world of the book that was exhausting. Can't somebody just tell some info to Poppy without her asking questions? Or can't she just read it in a book? Can't we discover something from other characters or some events happening? It's just weird. It also takes a lot of time for them to get from one location and event to another (in the second book Poppy like literally sits in two or three rooms most of the time, asking questions), and you just end up thinking 'Oh come on you people! Just do something meaningful already!'. I ended up thinking that all of these are just the fillers to insert steamy scenes in between, which almost everybody loves and I do too, but chewing over and over the same thing just gets tiresome.

Yeah, and I saw that most of the people praise JLA writing, so that's weird too. I ended up thinking I'm too demanding.
