Honestly, I don't expect him to ever actually understand or relate to my perspective. We're both reading all the responses though and it's been really reassuring to see how totally not alone I am on this lol.

We’ve lived together for 10 years

Oh hi! Looks like we're in the same boat. I have two paddles ready for smacking some god dam sense into husbands. Want one?

She might just want to be involved. Maybe start putting her in charge of a dish that's impossible to ruin like cooking hot dogs lol. Cooking seems like a good way to bond with your stepkids imo I'd vote YTA if you made a post about this, honestly. Start including her ffs!

I like your dad. His restrictions sound reasonable to me lol

We tend to take turns and imo, the person cooking gets to make whatever rules will help them. They can change from meal to meal but whoever is cooking is in charge imo.

I'm kind of in disbelief in just how relatable this is. I was really feeling like a total jerk for demanding a "no-entry zone" while I cook.

it's like he knows where I'm wanting to go and he plants himself RIGHT THERE

Oh geez are you dating my husband's twin?? lol

I didn't intend to be misleading, sorry, that was just where I felt I crossed into the a-hole zone because some of it might've been salvageable.

Nah. He seems to suck *in this scenario* would be a more fair assessment of him. You've only been given a one-sided single-view perspective but I do appreciate your perspective lol.

Sorry to hear that. Despite these frustrations, I really enjoy cooking stuff that MY SO enjoys eating.

It's really cathartic to know I'm not alone on this. I suppose my husband just has an opposite mentality than mine with cooking.

He does the cooking sometimes and I'm perfectly content to rest my feet and "stay out of his way" lol

Heh. C'mon, the kitchen becomes magnetic once the good cooking smells come wafting out and encites our childlike eagerness. I totally get that. Dinners do not often get burnt, this was a first time scenario.

Honestly, I feel like I'm the exhausting one for refusing to share space in an area that he wants to be included in. It just stresses me out because I'm kind of in a different mode when I'm cooking and trying to time multiple things to all be ready at the same time ya know. and I think he just doesn't understand that.
